I must say, I do like Dragon Ball GT. 1. Only one form. In DBS they keep bringing new forms in. Whether that be a variation or SSG or now UI, GT stuck with SSJ4 and worked with a more unique way to deal with things(fusion for Omega Shenron) 2. Goku. DBS is doing Goku rough. Their making him act not like the martial arts master he actually is. Also in DBZ, Goku wanted less involvement with everything. Gohan to Cell, Goten and Trunks to Buu. Only stepping in when he needed too. He enjoyed fighting but once he realized it’s time to put a villain down, there’s no other way. GT keeps that character going, while Super makes him seem like he only wants to fight people for fun. Which is fine, but a bad continuation from DBZ
I can definitely see that! Having only one form and making Goku rely on different techniques is a lot better of a way to handle things than constant new transformations. As for the second points, somebody in the comments here mentioned how Goku acts more like a kid in Super than he does as an ACTUAL KID in GT. Which honestly feels right. I don't really like the direction for either, since it doesn't feel like he grows much to me, but I can definitely see where you're coming from.
I remember how fun the Frieza and hell even the battle with Picolo at the end of db where because Goku was either even with the enemy or weaker and he had to out think his foe , and some of the moves got creative
@@Sydney-wi1ym I wouldn't mind any GT related talking mainly because that's a nostalgic side taking over. But I can't take it seriously when it's needlessly compared to Super, it has to stand on its own legs being a Z sequel. That's literally half of everything GT related I've read and heard online
Like DBS, GT is *very* flawed but I deeply think both of them tried in their own ways to make a sequel to DBZ. Unfortunately the task is really hard and even with the best of intentions and interesting ideas/concepts what they ended up doing was very disappointing or too unequal. I still like both for different reasons but they are still far from the level of quality of DBZ.
Agreed there. They had the EXTREMELY tall order of following up DBZ. Expectations were always going to be through the roof. They definitely both have their merits but it's hard not to be left disappointed when you don't get the same high points you had before.
@@biohazardbin this is mostly because GT was produced right after DBZ ended, while Super was made decades after and clearly struggles between aiming at a new/younger demographic and keeping the fans of the original hyped. In the end Super, just like GT, has lots of flaws but also qualities
@@onojioboardwalk9748 don't get me wrong, yes GT localizations are pretty bad overall. But it's not it's only flaw. It has very great concept, story and character potential and sometime the execution kicks in like SSJ4 and Baby or the very ending of GT; however on the long run GT struggled with its plot with boring filler episodes for instance. That doesn't mean I hate GT, far from it, not does it mean it's bad, just not perfect nor even a satisfying sequel de DB.
‘Why does Super 17 keep pushing his hair back?’ As someone who’s had hair not even half that long, I constantly had to push it out of my face. So longer hair+constantly fighting, I think it’s unrealistic how few times he pushes it back
Baby becoming the Oozaru and wrecking havoc on his people is a good irony and shows how tainted Baby's justice got. He became the very thing he chose to make suffer and now enjoys thag power so much that he forgets what he was even created for. Heck he didnt even hesitate to blow up the Earth. Lastly, Dr Miyu programmed hell fighter 17 to control 17 in order for him to forcefully get him to merge with him to create super 17 and be the one in control.
I'd disagree with that. Baby is at no point shown to be on an original path of justice or anything of the sort. The universal Tuffluzation plan was what we were shown from the start. There was no humble beginning or anything like that. While Dr. Myuu programmed the new 17 to merge with him, that still doesn't change the fact that they had to link beforehand to open the portal to hell to merge in the first place.
Honestly I would consider the universal Tuffluzation plan might have been from the Tuffles probably driven to madness at the last days of the war with the Sayians. He himself is unhinged aside from an immature attitude and incredibly prideful manner befitting a Sayian. Killing thousands of humans infected to by himself without a care. Though it seems like he strayed from his original programming. Even after supposedly avenging the Tuffles by conquering and infecting the last Sayians, recreated their home world, and has billions of subjects infect by himself…Baby makes no further effort to revive them. I’m unsure if he would have moved past it if he dealt with Goku finally, but he seems content like Vegeta with the extinction of his race despite having the ability to do so with the Dragon Balls. In the end the Tuffles that created and programmed him ended up created a monster very much like the Sayians that wiped their race out.
It would be nice if they replaced the Buu saga with the Shadow Dragon saga of DB GT... It made sene... The shadow dragon saga was about reducing the over reliance on the Dragon balls.... because the stakes after the Cell saga kinda became insignificant even DB Super has the same problem... Deaths no longer mean anything as long as the Dragon balls are there... How many times will people die before Vegeta and Goku start taking thing seriously.... At least the Pre-Z dragon ball stories had stakes. I think Dragon Ball GT needs a Kai version similar to DBZ... GT kai should rewrite the stories to make it more cohesive and should remove the boring and pointless parts of GT while giving more screen time to underused characters and better dubbing. GT had something going there, the only problem was no source material (manga) to rely on. Just like Akira, the had to make it up as the went on, which meant taking risk and experimenting. The primal theme for GT was growth and moving on. Vegeta was the best written character in GT (only problem was fewer screen time). Plus Uub should be Goku's successor. Anyway. What do you think about Dragon ball GT Kai?
@CynicalJustin Apologies for my late response. I have rewatched GT, and yes, I can see why you'd feel that there weren't any humble beginnings from both ends; I think because the King of the Tuffles going out of his way to become an artificial life form, I completely skipped over the fact that despite everything he ended up becoming the same destroyer the Saiyans were to his very people. If I had said this and followed up with Baby Ōzaru being an irony to the Tuffles "justice", maybe it would have made more sense. However, I learned, and if I'm still incorrect, I'm ready to listen. Secondly, yes, I can see why the entire plot point of 17s connecting from literal separate dimensions is sort of a head-scratcher and again, it seems I did make an error whilst typing my original comment as I forgot how the Shadow Dragons themselves shouldn't exist at least not all of them as most of them had pure intentions behind their wishes such as Oolong wishing for underwear saved the world from Pilaf's rule and the other wishes being of Gokū's not helping himself but others ultimately captured of what made Kami change his mind and his philosophy of how the world must help itself and only use the Dragonballs to benefit others and not just themselves hence why the Namekian society have a test for the Dragonball users.
This is an old video so i doubt anything will come of it, but here goes nothing. I think Omega shenron is one of dragon ball's greatest villains and not just in concept. To give a short explanation, Shenron, going by his actions, is not just all evil, but more just so a manifestation of negativity. Most people would just think that's just the same thing, but his actions and words would suggest otherwise. Throughout the fight with the Z-fighters, I've noticed that Shenron always made it a point to get those on earth to understand his purpose in existing, why exactly is he there, his intent was to destroy everything in the universe but it would seem whether subconsciously or not, he would only destroy it all if those who created them didn't understand what his purpose was and how he could prove them wrong. His actions support this, when he's not killing everyone in sight despite easily being capable, shot a laser at bulma kicked Hercule and not in a gag like way or something light and even let nova cook against the fighters despite the fact that he should be all powerful. I think other than just being a wall, I think he serves as the barrier to enlightenment which ties into goku's character throughout this whole show. If I remember correctly Shenron remarks on what they should be doing which is to give up and living peacefully in the afterlife and purposefully lets them power up and do what they want to understand his presence. Goku throughout Gt has been content with who he is and had been complacent in relying on the dragon balls and truly allowing those in the world to live the way nature intended, it's an affront to reality, Goku during his fight with shenron, realizes this and becomes a new version of himself that's unaffected by shenron's attacks, finally achieving what it is that Shenron sought to make the people in the dragon ball world. Of course he's still made of negativity and needed to die, so that's why the universal spirit bomb was needed, but it ties into why Goku just left and why the OG shenron asked him if he knew Omega's purpose and Goku said yes. Essentially, Goku had become enlightened and ascended with the rest of the dragon balls which is what omega had wanted for humans of the world. It's why everyone noticed that he was different, it's why goku's clothes were shed despite having clothes on his body. Goku, after the spirit bomb, became a being that shenron wished to make so as to stop a being like Omega from appearing again. Omega and Baby are the best parts of Gt and make the ending more beautiful imo, if incredibly sad as well. Saying Goodbye was never easy, and I still can't watch it without crying. Gt has some of the best characterization of Goku and Vegeta, so even though it had it's faults, I can say I liked it a lot, Ssj4 was peak (although i'd prefer if the fur was black) Baby was great, Shenron was great, techniques were great to see, Ending was perfect.
Baby was turned into an Great Ape as a dramatic Irony, he became the very thing he swore to destroy and lost his vision in reviving his race. It's a thematic thing just like Goku not being taken over by baby, it's symbolic of Goku defying his image of the tuffles and he's so blinded by hatred that he lost sight of the justice his people should of have. It's the usual "revenge corrupts" thing.
the ending really crushed me. it felt like a real goodbye to the series. seeing goku disappear to nowhere made me cry (literally) Dan dan is the best opening song btw
1:26:02 listen I've been thrown GT hate my entire life, I just appreciate a video like this existing. I'm fine that people hate this anime that I enjoy because I fully get why they hate it, but I'm always glad to see somebody else appreciate it like I once did
I liked GT Goku more than Super Gok ngl, Id rather take always hungry kid Goku who is still the martial artist we all know and love over a Goku that can't count to 10 29:20 nah man this scene here... It just hit me in the feels so hard
I really can't debate that because they most certainly dropped the ball with Super Goku too. And yeah, that scene may well be the best in GT. Does, in fact, hit you in the feels.
Ironically GT is the one that couldn’t keep a simple 1-2-3 rhythm, like a lot of the flaws people dislike in Super Goku are ALSO in GT Goku, but people don’t see them because A, they only remember the best parts or B they straight up haven’t watched the series tbh. It’s just the curse of being written by Toei animation.
@@thebestcakegoku7346 in the fight against Luud, Pan and him needed to fire and hit Luud’s heart at the same moment, but because Goku struggles SO much with 1-2-3 they end up having to use dishes to coordinate.
Shut up with that "I wasn't born yet", cope. GT is the same shit as the tournament of power. Clearly you don't understand how many kids liked broly. Even to this day we have xenoverse revisiting 20 year old stories, and Big bang, using characters that Akira Toriyama did not even create himself - it makes you think wow they must be good so why are you talking out of your ass?
It's definitely a great capoff for the anime. It doesn't quite fit the manga but with so many callbacks to anime filler it really helps tie all three series together
I kind of like gt, it could be massively improved but the ideias are there. Uub and Pan were both wasted as characters there, they already had a good base to start growing, unfortunetly they focused the story COMPLETELY on Goku. For example in the first arc goku should had refused to join the group and send Uub instead, and since he had instant trasmission he could had save them once in a while when needed, that way the characters would grow in every aspect, we could see more of Uub and the results of his training so far, Trunks getting back on shape, and Pan slowly gaining respect (and power), how they would solve problems and evolve. Baby arc was ok, the only thing i would chance is after getting beaten by baby the 1 time uub would be saved Goku who once again appeared to save the day, he would just appear sooner and the rest would go as usual except at the end after unlocking ssj4 he no longer is a child anymore. Super seventeen is tricky to work around, but someone who worked for dr muy survived and got the normal earth dragon balls reviving him and him reviving dr gero (they met on hell as usual) then they would build super 17, find a way to open a portal to hell and trap GOKU AND VEGETA there. In hell goku and Vegeta would fight back to back against frieza and Cell, they would be stronger but the fight would be far more close respecting every character involved (Vegeta would finally kill Frieza) Meanwhile on earth everyone would be fighting against super 17 (and pherphaps others who escaped from hell) In that fight Ubb and Gohan would have serious trouble dealing whit super 17 (gohan didnt train that much but he still was able to keep up a bit) and eventually Uub and Gohan would be losing badly and Buu would came to help and finally fuse whit Uub who then would defeat super 17, while the other characters would be fighting other villains, after that they would release or bring Goku and Vegeta back from hell and use the dragon balls The the dragon saga is pretty simple, they would join in teams of 2 for example and go look for the dragons. Then they would have to get the dragon balls by force. In one of those fights Pan would be able to prove herself saving her partner (probably Gohan) and together they would win the battle. Eventually everyone would join together and the last dragon would be able to steal and absorb the dragon balls getting too strong. Then Goku and Vegeta would fight him like usual and the rest would go exactly the same. All this taking a filler or two out of the way and Gt would be perfect in my opinion
@@nkwhite It feels like they're finally branching out a bit but they are still too hyper focused. The other characters have a lot of personality and they need to expand on that. Even if just a little.
@@JustinSVA I have the blurays through set 4, but I honestly can't remember the last episode that I actually Watched. Maybe I'll try Super again, one day... GT - HELL, no! 😅
@@nkwhite I will say, I don't regret my watch of either of them. But I highly doubt they'll be shows I ever go back to fully (well, maybe Super for possibly for a video like this, lol).
Honestly, while I prefer GT as a sequel concept, I like rewatching Super more than GT. While it's still Goku Time a lot, it does put in a lot more effort for the other characters in terms of fighting and slice of life. Part of what I want to see from a sequel is how the characters have grown and changed since the end of the prequel, but we only got tidbits of that in GT. Granted, I did like those tidbits, especially the Bra and Vegeta moments, Gohan not always seeming weak, and Trunks and Goten having their own lives.
It had good ideas . Unfortunately ,those ideas were executed quite badly. They knew how a Saga would begin and how it ends. They just did not know how to fill in the middle which showed us how they got from beginning to end.
No it really wasn't that bad in fact looking back on things in hindsight (and looking at what's coming in the future) it was actually pretty damn good, with an ending that we as dragonball fans deserve to have. The GT ending is how the whole series should rap up.
Eh, arguably it has two really good parts baby and Omega shenron, i have never seen anyone claim that that first arc, the grand tour (you know the reason why it's called GT) or super 17, or the vast mayority of the evil dragon balls arc before omega shows up are any good Super gave us battle of gods, the tournament of power, Broly and super hero (and i even enjoyed the universe 6 tournament and most of Goku black) Of course ultimately it comes down to personal opinion, but super has some really good shit too The ending was the best thou i 100% agree on that

A thought I had regarding Baby, I would have liked to see him try to poses Goku , and maybe have like an internal battle in Goku's mind, in which he sees the things that Goku has done , and begins to lose conviction , when he took over Vegeta's mind he could have easily overlooked Vegeta's good actions because they are so few in comparison to his evil. Also I could have seen Baby using Human shields against Majuub. I actually liked 17 in Z I was heading into my teens when I first watched it, and was excited to see him again ... then super 17 happened. Could you imagine Cell getting a Zenkai everytime Goku beat him down and he regenerated , that would add some tension . Krillin and PIcolo for sure deserved better but I bet Toei is like , yeah but they dont sell merch
Your cadence and intonation when relaying the story in a suspenseful way and your reactions to that story is almost identical to super eye patch wolf and I could not unhear that throughout this video.
Based on the title alone and not watching the video, I always scream gt is a way better successor than super. Simply for the fact that gokus character development is overall better and more fitting to the goku some of us watched since the OG dragon ball. Everything about gt is in my opinion is more true to the series. Super really is just lackluster and a huge let down other that the tournament of power and even then the only thing worth watching was goku vs jiren. Idk I’ll die on this hill tho
Super 17 saga did 1 thing way better than any other saga in the franchise, it actually had a Female fighter being the one to beat the big boss. no other db series has even attempted that. so huge props for that. Resurrection F is way worse saga than Super 17. and this opinion is coming from a over 15 year hardcore fan so i know what i am talking about.
Gotta say that Piccolo deciding to die because he realized the Dragon Balls kept being used for evil and his death would remove them permanently would actually be amazing and a great sendoff for his character.
Imo GT is only rejected because it’s not technically canon. As a show it was pretty damn good not to mention the movies during that time were top tier. They brought back a bunch of original characters, the writing was good for the most part, the only thing that really showed was how stupid Goku acted compared to Z but that imo is just part of his character and an ongoing trope.
For the argument that GT was bad because it was less serious literally goes against the point of Z. The world was literally brought to peace of course they aren’t gonna be fighting planet level threats as much and things won’t be as serious because they just wanna live in peace now.
It saddens me that people hate on GT so much. It has a great balance between lighthearted moments and intense action scenes just like how dragon ball was. The worse thing that happened in my opinion was taking away that amazing rap song in the intro in the cd versions 😂

Knowing how 17 is like in super Android 17 being put under control and killed is so sad his family and the land he was protecting all that time all for nothing 😭
no it's actually very good the only bad part is literally the first arc where they go around cosmos looking for dragon balls the rest is great only people pretend to hate it because they have nothing better to do with their lives
Hey that's my project in there! 😁 This was a great retrospective man, I loved hearing a different perspective on a rather loathed series, I love the way you analyze things, great video Justin!
Maybe it’s nostalgia, but personally I love GT and it’s my personal canon for post dbz, I know it opens slow, but it’s reminiscent and of the original dragon ball, and it doesn’t last long, and then we get baby, whose an amazing villain, and super saiyan 4 is a beautiful transformation and it’s the only form gt has, which is simpler than super having like 7 lol, we get Myuu meeting gero in hell, leading to super 17, and the portal to hell causing the dragon balls to crack, now mind you this all happens super fast, because I think the writers knew the series was ending soon, but unlike super, every arc leads directly to the next, and it feels like a story, my biggest complaint is that we don’t get many cutaways to the other characters to know what they’re doing during the main story. But I love this series! And I’ll gladly defend it… my hot take gt is better than super PS love this version of vegeta, who by the end of z is content with being second best, and isn’t still obsessed with surpassing Kakarot and now he’s just, a good dad!
yh opinon is your opinon but brooooo gt is NOT better than supeer me personally ss4 is my FK favourite form IMO ss4 is the BEST FORM IN THE DB SIRES but gt is not better than super gt has the BEST IDEAS IN ALL OF DB BUT HORRIBLE EXECUTION OF THOES IDEAS UNFORTUNATLY
@@R_0084life I’d rather have poorly executed ideas that are amazing, than wonderfully executing rehashes of previous ideas. Dragon ball super has no heart, it’s a product meant to sell. Gt needed a manga . It felt like a episode to episode anime which is what it was. There wasnt much though put into it until baby arc everthing was made itno what wil we do this episode and then the next instead of knowing what to put in between
I kind of wish GT focused on Goten, Pan, and Trunks isntead of Goku only because Goten even to this day kind of just exists. Trunks has had so much to do and Goten is there to become Gotenks.
I just watched this video and your channel for the first time, and I really really loved it. Thank you for this video! As someone who never got to watch GT, it’s fun to have a deep dive on the show from someone who has the experience to bring a lot of details forward. I’m gonna go take a look at your other videos 😎
I have seen it once with the original Japanese dub and it's like a 3.5/10 for me. I actually liked the pre-Baby adventures more than the Baby and Shadow Dragons arcs.
I like the beginning of gt. It makes me think of the original dragon ball. It has a very stupid silly feel that's also extremely charming. Goku literally used his power pole to put a rabbit mafia boss on the moon.
33:55 one thing I really don’t like about GT’s execution is how they handled the Black Star Dragon Balls, like sure, the nameless namekian making Balls is pretty possible. But using Piccolo as a scapegoat to fizzle them out of the story is just terrible, like not just his send off but the entire logic behind it. An entire subplot of the Cell Saga is about how Piccolo absorbing Kami rendered the Dragon Balls useless because Piccolo is from the warrior clan, and the entire reason as to why they went to get Dende, someone from the Dragon Clan to sustain them back to wishing state. Piccolo dying here honestly shouldn’t turn them to stone, if not for Toei.
Dragon ball GT is definitely my favorite dragon ball, Z is obviously better objectively but the ending of GT and the nostalgia and joy it gives, no anime can compare, it might even be my favorite anime in general, dragon ball z changed me as a person and seeing GT in my opnion making not the best but the perfect ending to dragon ball was heart warming
I can definitely respect that. The ending is really great and I still hold as the best ending the Dragon Ball franchise has ever received. Just feels right.

GT on surface level was ok but everything from doing most characters dirty such as Uub, Vegeta, Piccolo etc... was a no go Pan was just downgraded to a damsel in distress and the shadow dragons while good ideas were more like throw aways. I expected dragons as a result of overuse and evil to be less disposable and more than just used individually for a few episodes. I felt that GT had a lot of potential but was executed really badly. I really dont like GT it was too hyper focused on the sagas and kid goku. The artstyle was actually an upgrade that was far from rushed. Its a shame.
Even if you dislike gt that last sequence where Goku says goodbye forever hits the feels in all right places. Specially with the goat now having left us
You are correct. The real storyline ended with GT. I can't believe Dragon Ball Super is actually well received when it is a shameless cash grab that has no soul. It brings back fan favourites such as frieza, vegito, future trunks, brolly, etc... for no fuckin reason, other than that it will bring in views since they are notable and they can sell merch/toys/games. The story is pure fan fiction, and Toriyama with his forgetful memory has completely shat on the series for a quick buck.
37:26 idk if its just me but it seems more that the saiyans corrupted the tuffels due to invading their planet thus turning into the very thing they hated and that become even truer with vegeta's possession as the last royal member and last person who knew what planet vegeta was like
I watched the entire Dragon Ball anime in my 30s, so no nostalgia factor here. I thought it was as interesting and exciting as the rest of the series'. I really liked how it begins feeling like the og Dragon Ball, with adventure of hunting down the balls, and then turns into more of a Z with long and high-stake climactic battles. It was pretty weird how the anime gave an actual ending to everything, not setting up continuation for Goku, but yeah, still very good.
Dude you're literally comparing a 90s kids show to the spiderverse movies when trying to make a critique, that's so idiotic and unnecessary. I hate it when TH-camrs do that. Bring up something that's known to be amazing and use that as a critique point like "look how spiderverse handled characters".
Believe it or not when I watched Dragon Ball GT as a kid. One thing stuck out to me and confused me for a very long time. That was how in God's green earth did Dr Mew not know he had a dragon ball in his head? I'm just curious if there's an answer for that question
I am going back to like when I was 5 but I thought the tuffles were more grey cause while they may have been peaceful they were oppressive to the Saiyan’s
😂 I think it's funny how you and some people don't like GT but what I heard is the creator of dragon Ball itself never says anything bad about GT but SUPER he has some problems about it
Hi, long hair haver here. I too am constantly moving my hair our of my face. I can really resonate with the plight of Super 17 here. Guy needs a hair tie pronto
DUDE, this was so good! GT has some incredible ideas and just terrible execution. The shadow dragon concept is so good but man was it such a let down, I hated almost all the dragon designs. Nouva was the only interesting character in the whole show to me lol. The most op character in GT was non super Saiyan Goku lol.
Thank you so much, man! Glad to see you here! And definitely agreed. There was a lot that, on paper, SHOULD work. But I assume just poor planning and/or rushed writing didn't let these ideas breathe the way they needed to. And yeah, for beings called "Shadow Dragons" you expect some really great designs and a lot of them are just... Okay... And don't even get me STARTED on the WAR PATH non Super Saiyan Goku lays down in the first half of the show...
Honestly, no. Yes, the first few eps are... pretty bad, but everything baby arc and onwards was pretty good IMHO. It has issues, yes, but not enough for me to hate it outright (hell I love Uub and his character as a whole, I like the SSJ4 transformation, and I actively use one of Omega Shenron's moves in Xenoverse 2)
It's SO bizarre how different everybody's experience with this show is! Been watching TFS videos (which is why -probably- this video popped up on my feed) and the commentary on the music is the complete opposite haha I had to pause to make this observation, only 13 minutes in, so far very fun but I do NOT support the Giru hate! >:o
OH. THAT might explain why this has been finding it's way into people's feed as of late! What's funny is that I don't mind Giru. I'm more annoyed that they just forgot he existed after the first arc...
@@JustinSVA Yay! Awesome when TH-cam's feed makes things right, because it was a fun watch! But Giru has these little missiles that are so cool. He was the misunderstood star of this very, very weird grand tour ~
I really hate GT but that’s more so because I can see what it could have been. Its ideas (besides super 17) have a lot of potential that was wasted, and baby is the only villain that feels complete to me. The idea of the shadow dragons is great on paper but sucks in execution because it’s so unclear how powerful each of them is and they didn’t explore the angle of them being the consequences of the gangs actions enough in my eyes. Pan could’ve been a great new character if they gave her enough time to develop but they didn’t, and personally to me I don’t really like Goku being a kid again. It sorta takes away a lot of the development he had in the previous series. And the rest of the cast is criminally underused, especially piccolo, they did my boy dirty. However obviously Super Saiyan 4 is great, no questions there.
Super 17 I can agree with, the Shadow Dragons could've been a lot more threatening than they were but I think overall Omega Shenron is a really good villain to wrap things up with. I think in terms of Pan being more developed, GT was very short and pressed from being a Dragon Ball sequel immediately after Z and many people were on Dragon Ball burnout which is why it has such a short run time. I'm sure they could've made it better if it had the Super treatment and let people process the series before coming out with a sequel series so soon. Although, for being an actual cash grab, it was a lot more faithful and convincing than Super.
I agree with some of the statments about GT, but wasn't it just a waste of time for all animators, viewers, producers? It’s just that the series feels like an attempt to repeat DBZ’s arcs only with its own style. Also humiliation of characters, annoying Pan, stupid behavior of characters, main and side villains who don't even reach the level of villains from DBZ. It doesn’t work and the ending, no matter how tear-jerking it is, feels rushed to finally end the series and make it about the new Goku and Vegeta Jr. Which, in my opinion, was initially a bad idea and it could not have been realized as they wanted. And this would probably have buried the franchise for many years. I like the OST in the series, very rare moments, but unfortunately throughout the entire series I had a strong desire to turn it all off and never remember it again. And yes, I may be a hater, but even in Super there were moments that GT could never have done with the tools that they had. Although this series has fans, I believe that it was a very unsuccessful attempt that was simply a waste of time and opportunity. Let it remain as an example of how NOT to make a sequel for a popular franchise...
I’d like to point out that when 18 threatened to blow herself up and the cell arc the explosion was not a threat to cell, It was a threat because cell was trying to absorb her
One way they could have kept baby evil and still had sympathy with his people is to show during the saiyan invasion, his original form as the king becoming more and more corrupt. He becomes more desperate over time and resorts to more violent and cruel tactics to the horror of his people. You could even show how all this time he was still conscious but unable to do anything, and that corruption and desperation becoming more vile and potent. Sort of like the flood and Diadact in halo. Becoming a monster through hate and holding on to the past. You could throw in themes of letting go of the past and forming a new life and future, with goku and crew representing the rejection of the violent and cruel heritage but not being afraid of who they are as saiyans.
You guys keep thinking Super Goku is not how Goku is actually supposed to be. Sometimes I wonder what the hell did you watch or if it's the dub's fault that you misunderstood him so much.
9 minutes in and thought i was listening to a revies of dragon ball super. the fact that they are very similar in content but people still find super leagues better is crazy to to me. the fact that he said that the first arc is bad because it's like dragon ball is already telling on what kind of review this will be even tho it's amazing that the story was able to smoothly transition the fun adevnture stiry into the serious tension action type story like z is cool. the only that was bad is the super 17 arc due to it clearly being rushed and not thought out although concept is cool but 2 of out the 3 arcs are great because they were able to blend dragon ball and z together in the best way they could at the time.
The dragon ball series needs to be left alone. Dragon ball, dragon ball z.... That's all we need. Everything after that was unnecessary. Fresh eyes would need to take a look at the series as a whole and figure out what to do next. Super had something going, but I could not get past the animation some... They should have stuck with early dbz animation style, may have been better off.
Yes and i think people who like it are just feeling nostalgic . At least super has substance even tho almost every idea in gt is better than super but they always fumble it.
Its not fair.... DBZ set such a high expectation for future shows that no one(except for a couple of the super movies) can compete no matter what they do.
I wouldn't say GT bad but not good either. It has a great potential tho. Story wise, it's pretty interesting and it really has something to do with "Dragonball" except for Goku becoming a kid again making it so disappointing. The shadow dragons and even SSJ4 which is a very "Sayian" thing. What made it boring for me is their movement speed is very slow like I'm watching some sort of a DC/Marvel fight and it has a boring/corny OST.
It's not perfect, but I find GT better than Super on many levels (more original/innovation, more serious stakes, one SINGLE, transformation that finally completes the SSJ circle, etc.)
I must say, I do like Dragon Ball GT.
1. Only one form. In DBS they keep bringing new forms in. Whether that be a variation or SSG or now UI, GT stuck with SSJ4 and worked with a more unique way to deal with things(fusion for Omega Shenron)
Why does every positive take on GT have to compare to DBS. Judge it off being a sequel directly to End of Z and its push after that climax
@@shibabble8they're just do that because they think dbs is below their dear little GT.
Although GT, unlike Super, tries a lot more and is a lot more faithful to the source material than Super ever imagined being.
@@biohazardbin this is mostly because GT was produced right after DBZ ended, while Super was made decades after and clearly struggles between aiming at a new/younger demographic and keeping the fans of the original hyped. In the end Super, just like GT, has lots of flaws but also qualities
GT is extremely good. . Its just that so many of you cant look past what the localizers did to gt, Or past yourselves. +
GT was a failure in the right direction, while Super is a success in the wrong direction. Both can learn something from each other.
‘Why does Super 17 keep pushing his hair back?’
As someone who’s had hair not even half that long, I constantly had to push it out of my face. So longer hair+constantly fighting, I think it’s unrealistic how few times he pushes it back
The symbolism with baby is that he got his revenge for his ppl but ultimately became just like the saiyans he hated so much
You mean the original goku black?

@@thequarter2nah Buu saga was leagues above any GT saga
THANK YOUUUUU!!!!
I think you got this from a video. I just watched it like a week ago 😆

I really can't debate that because they most certainly dropped the ball with Super Goku too. And yeah, that scene may well be the best in GT. Does, in fact, hit you in the feels.
Ok cool
Ironically GT is the one that couldn’t keep a simple 1-2-3 rhythm, like a lot of the flaws people dislike in Super Goku are ALSO in GT Goku, but people don’t see them because A, they only remember the best parts or B they straight up haven’t watched the series tbh.

GT is the same shit as the tournament of power. Clearly you don't understand how many kids liked broly.
In hell goku and Vegeta would fight back to back against frieza and Cell, they would be stronger but the fight would be far more close respecting every character involved (Vegeta would finally kill Frieza)
Meanwhile on earth everyone would be fighting against super 17 (and pherphaps others who escaped from hell)
In that fight Ubb and Gohan would have serious trouble dealing whit super 17 (gohan didnt train that much but he still was able to keep up a bit) and eventually Uub and Gohan would be losing badly and Buu would came to help and finally fuse whit Uub who then would defeat super 17, while the other characters would be fighting other villains, after that they would release or bring Goku and Vegeta back from hell and use the dragon balls
The the dragon saga is pretty simple, they would join in teams of 2 for example and go look for the dragons.
Just once, I would love Vegeta to be allowed to save the day... He's always been my favorite
God, it would be nice. Wouldn't it? So many times when they've had a very clear opportunity and just decided Goku was the better choice again...

Exactly.

Based on the title alone and not watching the video, I always scream gt is a way better successor than super. Simply for the fact that gokus character development is overall better and more fitting to the goku some of us watched since the OG dragon ball.

Gt needed a manga . It felt like a episode to episode anime which is what it was. There wasnt much though put into it until baby arc everthing was made itno what wil we do this episode and then the next instead of knowing what to put in between
One of the most criminally underrated videos I've ever seen on TH-cam. This is incredible!!
Thank you! 🙏🙏🙏
It's pretty crazy tbh
One of my favorite moments was when a deer tried to motorboat Pan.
Do you know the artist who made your pfp? I like the style
GT is like OG + DBZ movies, for better and for worse but it was pretty chill I enjoyed it
I kind of wish GT focused on Goten, Pan, and Trunks isntead of Goku only because Goten even to this day kind of just exists.
Thank you so much! That means the world to me that you'd check my other stuff out! I hope you enjoy it!
Rildo sounds dangerously close to what Frieza looks like.
which versions
I have seen it once with the original Japanese dub and it's like a 3.5/10 for me. I actually liked the pre-Baby adventures more than the Baby and Shadow Dragons arcs.
I like the beginning of gt. It makes me think of the original dragon ball. It has a very stupid silly feel that's also extremely charming. Goku literally used his power pole to put a rabbit mafia boss on the moon.
The nameless namekian created the Black star balls. Its also why they turned to stone after Piccolo died.
Okay, but at least it ain't Evolution. 🤷🏿♂️
GT was 10x better than db Super, it might not be as good as OG DB or dbz but it waay better than Super
THAT GT THEME SONG WENT SO HARD THANK YOU FOR MENTIONING
I remember seeing vegeta jr already having a widows peak I laughed so hard lmao.
You know...I never even thought about that. That is hilarious. Lol.
@@JustinSVA Super 17 saga did 1 thing way better than any other saga in the franchise, it actually had a Female fighter being the one to beat the big boss. no other db series has even attempted that. so huge props for that. Resurrection F is way worse saga than Super 17. and this opinion is coming from a over 15 year hardcore fan so i know what i am talking about.
Piccolo being Toriyama's favorite character going out like that is fucking SO disrespectful. Yamcha went out with more dignity in the Saiyan saga.
GT on surface level was ok but everything from doing most characters dirty such as Uub, Vegeta, Piccolo etc... was a no go
Pan was just downgraded to a damsel in distress and the shadow dragons while good ideas were more like throw aways.
Specially with the goat now having left us
5:40 so that episode actually exists! For years, i was wondering if it was just a weird fever dream!
GT haters want to think they look and sound cool when they shit on it. IMO the REAL DB series ended at GT
The real series ended with GT.
Yes!! +
No the real story line ends when Super ends
@@kiryuthedragonwarrior2746 Wrong, super sucks. So it doesnt end with that. +
37:26 idk if its just me but it seems more that the saiyans corrupted the tuffels due to invading their planet thus turning into the very thing they hated and that become even truer with vegeta's possession as the last royal member and last person who knew what planet vegeta was like
The GT finale alway makes me emotional. Literally always. It’s my kryptonite 😭
The snippet of Drowning Pool when Cooler showed up was a nice reference
I loved gt it was very fun
And i loved that vegeta got to shine with bulma's knowledge
Loved PS4 too
Damn bro really made the dbz theme song to sound sad asf at the end lol
Believe it or not when I watched Dragon Ball GT as a kid. One thing stuck out to me and confused me for a very long time. That was how in God's green earth did Dr Mew not know he had a dragon ball in his head?
I'm just curious if there's an answer for that question
I am going back to like when I was 5 but I thought the tuffles were more grey cause while they may have been peaceful they were oppressive to the Saiyan’s
I absolutely adore GT. Or, more specifically, I adore one specific character from GT.
yessir!!
Dr. Eggman watching the Super 17 Arc: And I thought I kept repeating the same thing over and over again and kept failing
What is the song at 15:01 ? I swear I’ve heard this before but for the life of me I can’t quite remember it.
Roots of the beast - Beatrye
😂 I think it's funny how you and some people don't like GT but what I heard is the creator of dragon Ball itself never says anything bad about GT but SUPER he has some problems about it
This just makes me realize how fun this show was, including the super 17 arc
Hi, long hair haver here. I too am constantly moving my hair our of my face. I can really resonate with the plight of Super 17 here. Guy needs a hair tie pronto
Vegeta beat Goku on earth and you'll never change my mind. Goku was completely crippled and Vegeta could still move. He wins.
Goddamn the start of the baby arc is just cell saga
I never understood how Goku Jr. could even go Super Saiyan in the first place. I thought if you were less than 1/4 Saiyan you couldn't transform.
That was never said, you just need an appropriate amount of s-cells to transform
Goku Jr. is only 1/64th Saiyan.
40:56 Nah, that honour goes to Dragonball Evolution.
I think I just don't have it within myself to say that Evolution can even be considered a part of Dragon Ball. Lol.
GT is inferior to Z but vastly superior to Super
You put the SpongeBob music and I imagined Mr Krabs using Squidward and Plankton.
gt also had this weird obsession with characters getting launched and stuck back-first in rock as a dramatic effect that I don't remember in dbz
I know Cooler did it in his first movie
40:56 Legends fans would agree with you on that
I really hate GT but that’s more so because I can see what it could have been.
The irony of all these statements are hilarious.
@@biohazardbin what irony?
It is, but people want to try to be different, so now alot of people pretend to suddenly love it. Just to be different.
I LOVE Syn and Omega's designs...the characters though, not so much lol. Syn is manageable and Omega is "Decent".
24:27 xD you got me. Not gonna spoil the irl game-tyme with that bull-crap
YES. I LOVE THIS. ANYTHING TO GIVE THE CHARACTER COMPLEXITY AND DEPTH.
Dragon Ball GT was better than Super. In GT, Goku at least *is* a child, in Super he behaves like one.
You know... I never thought of it that way and you're not wrong at all. Lol.
This comment perfectly tells you, why I hate the GT fanbase so much.
You guys keep thinking Super Goku is not how Goku is actually supposed to be. Sometimes I wonder what the hell did you watch or if it's the dub's fault that you misunderstood him so much.
@Sydney-wi1ym Nobody asked you. Also your are the reason why people hate the Super fan base. Super as a series sucked
@@MikeHunt-yl1so You're being part of the problem too.
I remember watching it as a kid and I loved it lol
9 minutes in and thought i was listening to a revies of dragon ball super. the fact that they are very similar in content but people still find super leagues better is crazy to to me. the fact that he said that the first arc is bad because it's like dragon ball is already telling on what kind of review this will be even tho it's amazing that the story was able to smoothly transition the fun adevnture stiry into the serious tension action type story like z is cool. the only that was bad is the super 17 arc due to it clearly being rushed and not thought out although concept is cool but 2 of out the 3 arcs are great because they were able to blend dragon ball and z together in the best way they could at the time.
okay whether or not you like the explantion of why he can't due things that he used to doesn't mean it wasn't explained.
1:06:34 look at you rhyming. You proud of that?! Now it's stuck in my head!🫠
Yes and i think people who like it are just feeling nostalgic . At least super has substance even tho almost every idea in gt is better than super but they always fumble it.
Its not fair.... DBZ set such a high expectation for future shows that no one(except for a couple of the super movies) can compete no matter what they do.
GT didn't take away Goku's intelligence. Super however... 😑
Great video Justin!
Thank you so much! ♥️
