I'll be making clay bricks in a clay fire kiln with this template (Why Clay? It's easy to source and free). Now I just need a local natural resource for a substitute masonry mortar.

A year later did you do it? I'm doing my bricks with your approach of kiln-fired currently. Though my interlocking bricks are a bit different type.
My reasons is because I figured I'll require less masonry activity, less materials, less skill, hence overall, less costs in construction.
