    My favorite part of this is when he starts the "we think we know you" and you can hear the whole room go quiet and get it

    This one is so good. Such a joyful celebration of his talent despite the criticism and self doubt. I love how the music initially drowns out the voices and then when they creep back in he turns them into music too. He turns his mental struggles into art in a way that not many others can accomplish. He reminds me a lot of Van Gogh in that way. Beauty and happiness/laughter out of his own pain.

  • @QuikVidGuy

    I love how no matter how many instruments he brings in it never feels crowded, and also like how the last "Mr. Burnham" almost sounds like a signature, like he's finally demanding respect. I know a lot of his material is about how people shouldn't respect him in some ways, but when someone's treating you like an object, demanding that they acknowledge you can be a huge moment

      Another interpretation I’ve seen is that he’s pointing at us the viewers like the other people that assume they know what he’s like we don’t know anything either all we see is his on stage persona

  • @Tom-yi4kw

    Honestly the best part I think is at the end, the music almost completely drowns out the voices. It’s insane how genius he is

    • @vanderin
      @vanderin 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      To add to your point, the fact that the music drowns out the voices instead of removing them makes the section hit something real and inspirational, "Those voices never go away no matter what you've accomplished. Make music in spite of them, for your own sake."
      (edit: grammar)

      @@Ledatru I disagree entirely with the "equally or even more difficult." sentiment. The presence of mind required to be able to do timed things like the "He meant to knock the water over." bit, and everything else timing related in the special (This song for example) is absolutely incredible. He not only has to memorize words (Jokes) but also audio cues, which in my opinion makes it significantly more difficult than your average stand-up routine.

    FINALLY you said the magic words "there's nothing like this." Every Bo video you ask, "Is Bo like ___? Or this person? Or this other comedian?" And I'm like, "No, Bo is like Bo." There is no one like him. I can't WAIT to see your full reaction to Inside and I'm glad you've been watching his other work so you'll understand him a lil more. I can't imagine what Inside is like for people unfamiliar with Bo. He's always been a prodigy, except now he's too old to call himself that anymore so he calls himself an artist and feels pretentious when he does. I love (the idea of) him so much.

    • @johnnyparsnips7641
      @johnnyparsnips7641 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I mean, it's quite obvious that almost every aspect of every one of his performances (excluding Inside) are almost directly ripped from other artists.
      Granted, pretty much everything that can be said has already been said, so I can't blame him really, but I will say that he is insanely talented with the way in which he cobbles it all together to form a new feeling.

    I think the second guy, the agent, has to be based on actual conversations he's had and I think Bo hates him way more than the other two.
    What does this person represent?
    1. Exploitation of kids as consumers - see his song Repeat Stuff
    2. No introspection, just be funny - see Can't Handle This
    3. This guy is in it for MONEY - Again, see Repeat Stuff or Pandering
    4. Make content for the Bo "brand" instead of authentically Bo - again, Pandering
    5. He stifles creativity, "none of this 'challenges to the form'" - in all Bo's work, including this one, he challenges the forms of both comedy and music. That is his genius. In Inside he bends the definition of a "comedy" special and challenged himself to create it in a limited space.
    I also think the comment about putting out content, even if it isn't very good, to establish himself online again is a very telling one about how little this guy understands about Bo. In everything Bo puts out it's clear he put a TON of effort and work into. This song for example, the beginning, the lyrics, tune, choreography - all this stuff took a ton of work to perfect. I don't think Bo could stand to put out content he didn't think was good.
    Anyway to summarize, the agent represents so many things Bo has made content criticizing that I think of the three voices his is the most infuriating to Bo and he recognizes him as toxic.

    I think the musical ending is demonstrative of how he’s dealt with pressure and stress through his life, with comedy and creating music.
    I’m sure this was really obvious but I just adore his expression of it onstage, so vulnerable when you think about it. It’s like a re-enactment of his teenage bedroom TH-cam days. He’s a pioneer!

    That bit where he points up and hears crickets isnt what you thought it was.... Bo believes that god wont answer your prayers, that its up to us to make the world a better place because none of us are going to heaven because of all the horrible shit humanity does on a daily basis. Him pointing up and hearing crickets was him saying "God isnt there to say anything, he doesnt care". Bo has said he is a Atheist, saying he doesnt rule out the idea of there being a Deity, but the idea of one existing didnt "gel with him" so to speak. He respects a lot of religious people, but he is most certainly not praying to any god, and wants others to not feel the need to rely on such a practise, he says as such in his perspective of god song.

    i've got the opposite song
    i was a friend of a dude who was really talented who always kept me around, he thought i was funny
    he hired me to run his website, which i did, and it died in the same year, because his website was about a game his crew never worked on again

    Hey if you don't mind can I recommend a Bo Burnham song? If you haven't reacted to it yet? (Are you happy) is one of my personal favorites. I would to see what you think of it.
