Ayeeeee I’m in love with second line...dawn has came a long way since she left puff...I remember when she first left all she could do was a digital release for “armor on” , but now sis got CD’s, Merch, & Viynl!!
She did her best but something was missing and I feel like what I’m about to say will make sense to some. I think when approaching a Richard record for live consumption sound design MUST be present. Her sound sits on a thin line of organic and synthetic so the arrangements have to be approached a little different. It’s more than a live band and mic. Hell I’m pissed there weren’t background to fill the empty spaces within bussifame. The arrangement was straight through and too simplistic to be translated well in a live setting. I don’t know what happened with pilot; I was actually lost. What I mentioned would probably cost an arm and a leg for every performance but there should be a different standard for electronic vocalist especially the way her conceptual work is set up. She’s done fairly well on her own introducing things and taking risks but because this isn’t a solid form for vocalist and only seen as “dance” music with a simply form it’ll take some time before we get these larger than life vocalist that’ll master this blueprint from artist like Dawn. As for the interview ...... Culture is community and that ‘s why I love hearing her talk about New Orleans so much. She has a brilliant mind and a sense of pride that’s expressed so openly that you don’t feel left out but invited and it brings joy to my heart whenever she expresses herself. Indigenous ppl/ culture WILL bring vibrance to the future moving forward and I would hate for it to feel distant from the world’s true nature. Dawn Richard is a pioneer and I will follow her path as it adds vigor to my own. She’s imperfect and so am I and quite honestly to see her flaws is raw and transparent. Nobody’s perfect.
Totally get what you saying about the arrangement. I just could not put it into words. Her voice and the instruments just could not sit in the pocket for this jazz type music for me. But got to love an artist who feels and expresses such passion for what she does and wants to stay true to culture.
dont know if anyone gives a damn but if you're bored like me during the covid times then you can watch pretty much all of the new movies and series on InstaFlixxer. Been binge watching with my gf for the last days :)
Do you want to hear the same set and sound every time? Do you need for it to sound exactly like the studio version? It's okay if you do because i you can just listen to that. The sound guy is inept but Dawn's performance, is scintillating and prismatic. I feel like she maybe has gotten too used to the studio and current performance methods. She seemed a little intimidated. She's an engine. I feel like she was holding it back because she's used to being part of a theatrical show. She doesn't need anything to carry her. Did I hear a badly botched augmenting vocal track? I discovered her and her catalog from this. This live version of bussifame is electrifying old school. My hair stood up. think she needs to do more stripped down live performance. It made me feel the love again. It made me feel alive in a way I haven't in a long time. She made the music play again for me. Its exactly what live music should be.
😬 it’s not translating well as a listener via TH-cam. I trust her to work it out as the eta goes on. She might need to do renditions of the songs instead of trying to do the actual songs. I hate to say it. It was giving very sound check/first outing. Anyway the album is great! One of her best works.
@@nenej12 The sound _is_ terrible on this - it sounds like someone was standing there recording it to their phone. Yup, you're right - NPR one is far better
Her new album is AMAZINGGG OMG. A TRUE artist
Been vibing with Dawn since her DK days. Hearing her talk about Katrina was powerful. I love her love for New Orleans.
Shes a QUEEN
Her mind should be protected at all costs .

brilliant!
The interview portion was definitely something I thoroughly enjoyed!! I can listen to her speak all day!
I'm not hearing clearly the sound is low and muffled at times. This doesnt do justice to the songs cause they are pure fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Her new album is flames 🔥 🔥🔥🔥
Jacuzzi is one fave

The sound is so disappointing :( praying the KEXP studio comes back soon

👍
pink has New Orleans being reborn also spawned a new courage to break ground. Spearhead on.
She's amazing! The Bassman and drumer sound great too! But... The guitarist doesnt fit at all?
The drums are overpowering and recorded by someone’s phone?
cmon man, you don't do an interview that STONED
Sounds terrible
i think its the sound...dawn always sounds great, unless she is sick...look at her tiny desk gig

@@nenej12 I agree... the approach was a little to traditional for me.
ya ya, it's so real, for real and I mean really without saying anything at all that's real. A very pointless interview, haul off on that bong!
Too much chat
A bit different, but yea def not for me
