As a medical student, I disagree with most of the people in the comments. She demonstrated genuine intelligence and she’s clearly more well read on biology, philosophy, chemistry/biochem, cell biology, human physiology, etc and so on than the average person (especially compared to the average person who comes to speak with Brother Ali on this channel). It was actually a really fun conversation to follow and I enjoyed how it gave Ali the chance to give a perspective on Islam that he doesn’t normally give, and to her credit, she seemed engaged and interested in his arguments precisely BECAUSE of her intellectual background even if she was too stubborn to immediately change her mind in the end.
Plus (and this is important so pay attention) you have to remember, people almost never change on camera or in the throes of the moment. It’s almost always after they go back home, have some time to think and reflect, that they come back to you after some time has passed with a new perspective.
The reason why some commenters here are being harsh and quite rude in my opinion, is because she may be lacking in wisdom and some people may see that and be put off. But she seems to still be young with a LOT of time left to grow and challenge herself and her worldview, and bear in mind it’s difficult to learn wisdom from a world we find increasingly steeped in ignorance. Especially for us younger folk who are growing up in this difficult environment. Have patience with people and some grace with their flaws and you’ll become a happier person - and wise enough yourself not to judge so prematurely.
Her reasons for rejecting Islam also seem to be more emotional and personal rather than rational, hence why Ali’s logical arguments didn’t budge her much. But that’s also why with time, I see hope in her and many that Ali gives Dawah too to come to Islam InshaAllah. It’s her heart that seems confused, and all hearts are in the possession of Allah to guide or leave to stray.

your over thinking this; she's Safavidist they practice Taqiyya(rafidah or Irreligous). it's part of their heretic ways while claiming to follow Islam when they stopped practicing Orthedox Islam during 17th Century when Safavid's did genocide on Sunnis(hence why Most Iranian Sunnis only exisist at border areas in mass.) People like her have 0 clues about their Sunni Iran historylike (Rashudun, Timurid, or Hotak) they only think that
      Safavid Iran 1501-1736
      Afsharid Iran 1736-1796
      Zand dynasty 1751-1794
      Qajar Iran 1789-1925
      Pahlavi Iran 1925-1979
is there contemporary history, these ex-pats blame Sunnis for Khomeinist when ayatollah has hostile views about Sunnis. "Islamic" revolution was alliance between Irreligous persians like her & Cultists that run Iran's current govt. Sunni Iranians had no say in these matters.

@@TazKidNoah I think you might be the one overthinking it Brother with all due respect. You said yourself that she likely has zero knowledge of the history you described even if it affected who she was born as. And would an investigation into the history of her identity change her beliefs? Maybe it’d be a push in the right direction, but I find that people with these “feeling” reasons for rejecting Islam only tend to change through life experience. Serious trials: loss of a loved one, financial difficulty, acute injury or disease, significant personal crises and so on. People like this sister need turning points that shatter their worldviews and allow them to rebuild themselves unburdened by their past emotions or predispositions. And maybe then she’d have more of an interest and connection to the history of her predecessors and how it affected her faith, but that usually comes in hindsight of a change of heart you know?
I appreciate your explanation and I’m not disagreeing with any of it, I’m pretty ignorant on Iranian/Persian history past the time of the Abbasiyya so I thank you for sharing. I just don’t know if it’s relevant to her case, but Allahu Alam, because my exact point was that it IS hard to judge someone’s character so deeply from a small social media snippet.

they used to share the same masjid in texas with us Sunni Desi(afghani,Pakistani,Indian,Bangladeshi)
when Islamic revolution happened they started accusing us Sunnis, what am i suppose to say or think? I remember yasir qadhi mention this in his youtube vid about Sunni/Shia.
what am i suppose to do if irreligous persians deny basic facts with narrow history they have awareness of?
if you do get a chance look up the Ideology of the Iranian revolution
You start realizing a lot of irreligious "persians" lied about what happened because they were complicit in grandparents & their parents supporting this dictatorship. As nonIranian to fellow like yourself, dont feel like you cant trust your gut, if you look into it; unmasking of rafidah fluff makes it easier to break through this mysticism irreligous "persians" do about shia/sunni

She was polite, but it kinda seemed like she wasn’t ready to actually rethink her position and seriously consider Ali’s points in my opinion. It was more like she just wanted a simple conversation with a celebrity she knew, which is fine, but it didn’t really result in anything productive in the end.
In a sense she was just hearing but not truly listening and she was just getting ready for a programmed response. Instead of deep thinking, her first reaction to everything was “ehh, I just feel like that’s wrong” without thinking about why. Or when he brought up an argument from intelligence, she immediately jumped to the classic buzzword “watchmaker” counter argument that’s been drilled into students for years by atheist biologists.

Am an Afghan, I have many Iranian friends. I know them quite well, to be honest I don’t blame them. The Iranian government has forced Islam onto its people in such an extreme way that we now see the results.
It is rare to find an Iranian girl wearing a hijab or a boy to actually practice Islam because they have no longer belief in these matters.
The version of Islam they are actually preaching has been created by themselves, and that’s why it makes no sense.
There is no compulsion in Islam. Ali Khamenei is responsible before Allah, as he caused this disaster.
Islam is a religion of wisdom and logic. May Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala guide all of us.
    Ammeen

@@3HAB3 as an fellow afghan, I also agree. Its really rare to find a practicing Iranian muslims, long along just to see a muslim iranian. But you’re right, I don’t blame them either, the bad actions of the government that they are doing against its own people have brought this and also Shiasm that doesn’t really resonate with the iranian people. When they’re putting importance of Ali and the 12 imams and that they have some kind of superficials power, so it brings lots of confusions. I’ve heard sometime they even interpret verses of the quran to make their own version so that it can align with their doctrine. So there’s lots of superstitions and confusion in that sect, so that’s why also its people haven’t accept Islam fully from the heart. Also at the same time what I’m seeing in Iran, I’m afraid that it doesn’t happen to our people bcz of the talib washi actions that they are doing against our sisters in the country with not letting them in schools. Im afraid that it won’t impact our people faith, like the iranians. At least, we are sunni who follow the sunnah, that lot’s of us are also really devout muslim people. And the talib are not corrupt like the other government or the good security that they have brought in the country. But, they have to change things quickly and let our sisters go back to School. Bcz I really dont want our people to have doubts in their faith or abandon it, like iranians. Inshallah it won’t happen and that things will change quickly in the talib government, but still I don’t like to have all these thoughts.

@ShamsRady3 sure, but it’s way less than those who are not scientists. A lot of the scientists who call themselves religious are not religious like you who believe it to be literal, they are more I guess ‘culturally religious’. As in, they see themselves belonging to this group, as they were raised, and they often do not believe in the religion literally. For example, scientists who call themselves Christians do not actually believe in the Noah’s ark story or anything like that, they see them as just stories with moral teachings, not that they actually happened. And for the very few scientists who do believe in religions literally, it’s because that’s what they grew up knowing their entire life, so they try to make the science fit with their religion and automatically try to defend their religion. They’re biased. If they grew up with no religion, no atheism and no such ideas, but still had their current knowledge of science and you asked them if they thought God or the Quran was true, they most probably would say no. These beliefs are so deeply engrained in people that it is difficult for them to let go of them. For example, there was this highly educated geologist who was a professor at Harvard, he was a Christian who believes the earth was made by god and that it is only a few thousand years old, and he said ‘if I was presented with evidence of the earth being old, I would be the first person to admit that the earth is old, but I would still believe that the earth is young because that’s what my Bible tells me’. As you can see, people will throw away all logic to still believe in their religion. (I’m a scientist and have a pretty good idea on our community’s view on religion).

I think with someone like this, you need to use a different argument. She's smart, but I think you need to challenge her more with the necessary/contingency argument. Thing with her is, she accepts science doesn't have all the answers, and she's fine with that, therefore, these arguments, while logical and rational, I don't think do much for her, as she is okay accepting not knowing. However, I think challenging her with discussing the necessary/contingent argument, along with infinite regress, make sense.
With all that being said, may Allah reward you for the work you do.

Tribalism and nationalism. My sister went to Iran for around two weeks for her University and Iran' s University collaboration of architectural projects years ago. She observed that most of them are very proud of their Persian heritage to the point of boasting excessively. Persian Empires especially left some technology and architecture marvels. However, she said, Iran's modern architecture and public infrastructure is pretty bad and cannot even measure to Persian history. They have this nationalism or better race mentality. At least when she talks to the students. Not sure if it applies to all Iranians.
She also said that the majority of Iran students are not religious. She saw that female students had plastic surgery on the nose. It's because she was curious when she saw female students have bandages on their nose while going to class. She got curious and asked them. Apparently it's normal for them to have a nose job.
They also do tayammum every prayer although there is water.
They pray 3 times a day. And they use stones to put their head on when they prostrate. I'm not sure if it's on the mosque or government buildings, she said they have big pictures of 12 Imams on them.
She also said that when on the flights, the moment the Iranians got on a flight, they instantly changed into revealing clothes from modest Islamic clothes. Both men and women. At least those Iranians that get out of the country.
That was my sister's observation of 10 years ago. She also said the good thing about Iranians, that they are very friendly and very generous towards other Muslims from other countries. Regardless if you are Sunni or not. When she arrived there, the Iranians were very happy when they knew my sister's groups are Muslims from other countries. They don't care if my sister's groups are Sunni. They treat their guests with happiness and friendliness to the point my sister said she couldn't eat anymore because they gave too much food. 😅

I'm from iran and your sister is very wrong about Iran's islam culture , it's mostly because people don't know what shia is and what is actually different than sunni . for example we pray just 5 times like sunnis , we have believe that we should only pray on ground ( dirt ) and not carpet ( so it's not stone , it's dirt like ground , amd about imams , we don't have pictures of them , please learn something first then talk

I know about praying on the ground. But they did used stones. Those stones is the substitute of ground. Those students did that. Your description doesn't counter mine. It's actually in agreement with each other.
Her observations and experiences only confined to the University students. And places she went to. She has limited communications with locals outside of the University because of time constraints and she was busy working on her project. She only communicated with locals when she went shopping.

However, Lesbian, Gay Bisexual and Transgenders are not by definition incest practitioners. Unless you can prove that true LGBT sexual proclivity is a choice, and the sexes the choose to be intimate with is always the same as choosing an individual who is your blood relative. Hello. I am an atheist. I define atheism as suspending any acknowledgment as to the reality of any particular god until sufficient credible evidence is presented. My position is that *_I currently have no good reason to acknowledge the reality of any god._*
And here is why I currently hold to such a position. Below are 11 facts I must consider when evaluating the claim made by certain theists that a particular god exists in reality. To be clear, these are not premises for any argument which _concludes_ there to be no gods. These are simply facts I must take into account when evaluating the verity of such a claim. If any of the following facts were to be contravened at a later time by evidence, experience, or sound argument, I would THEN have good reason to acknowledge such a reality.
    1. I have never been presented with a functional definition of a god.
    2. I personally have never observed a god.
    3. I have never encountered any person who has claimed to have observed a god.
    4. I know of no accounts of persons claiming to have observed a god that were willing or able to demonstrate or verify their observation for authenticity, accuracy, or validity.
    5. I have never been presented with any _valid_ logical argument, which also introduced demonstrably true premises that lead deductively to an inevitable conclusion that a god(s) exists in reality.
    6. Of the many logical syllogisms I have examined arguing for the reality of a god(s), I have found all to contain a formal or informal logical fallacy or a premise that can not be demonstrated to be true.
    7. I have never observed a phenomenon in which the existence of a god was a necessary antecedent for the known or probable explanation for the causation of that phenomenon.
    8. Several proposed (and generally accepted) explanations for observable phenomena that were previously based on the agency of a god(s), have subsequently been replaced with rational, natural explanations, each substantiated with evidence that excluded the agency of a god(s). I have never encountered _vice versa._
    9. I have never knowingly experienced the presence of a god through intercession of angels, divine revelation, the miraculous act of divinity, or any occurrence of a supernatural event.
    10. Every phenomenon that I have ever observed appears to have *_emerged_* from necessary and sufficient antecedents over time without exception. In other words, I have never observed a phenomenon (entity, process, object, event, process, substance, system, or being) that was created _ex nihilo_ - that is instantaneously came into existence by the solitary volition of a deity.
    11. All claims of a supernatural or divine nature that I have been presented have either been refuted to my satisfaction or do not present as _falsifiable._
ALL of these facts lead me to the only rational conclusion that concurs with the realities I have been presented - and that is the fact that there is *_no good reason_* for me to acknowledge the reality of any particular god.
I have heard often that atheism is the denial of the Abrahamic god. But denial is the active rejection of a substantiated fact once credible evidence has been presented. Atheism is simply withholding such acknowledgment until sufficient credible evidence is introduced. *_It is natural, rational, and prudent to be skeptical of unsubstantiated claims, especially extraordinary ones._*
I welcome any cordial response. Peace.

Basically, atheism is I don't believe in God, because I am angry at God because of the evil in the world!

May Allah bring Iran back to the Ahlulsunnah. The Safavids did a huge damage to Islam.

Inshallah ! They brought Shiasm by force to Persia, that doesn’t even reasonate to Iranians, today. And like half of them leaved the religion completely. But I wonder, was it also the Safavids who brought Shiasm into Iraq, Syria or Lebanon ? Bcz I think, they also occupied all these land.

Shia Fiqh has not been able to satisfy logical reasoning ?
It appears that the Iranians are too proud of their pagan past and political influence enjoyed by the kingdom under the past kings like Cyrus the great (Dhulkarnein).
This inclination towards their past historical identity is actually also primarily triggered by the Arab racism towards the Iranian people and vice versa.
Arab Nationalism has triggered Nationalism among their neighbours.
Some Iranians started to think that their problems are not due to the errors of their leaders and western sanctions but their faith. Their young generation is somehow looking for validation from Americans and Europeans.
Iranians used to be from Ahl As Sunnah. Islamic literature was preserved by the Iranian scholars for centuries.
Most of the Islamic Golden Age scientists were the Iranian Muslims.
    In Sahih Bukhari - 4897
Narrated Hazrat Abu Huraira: While we were sitting with the Prophet Surat Al-Jumu'a was revealed to him, and when the Verse, And He (Allah) has sent him (Prophet Muhammad PBUH) also to other (Muslims).....' (62.3) was recited by the Prophet, I said, Who are they, O Allah's Messenger ? The Prophet did not reply till I repeated my question thrice. At that time, Salman Al-Farisi was with us. So Allah's Messenger put his hand on Salman, saying, If Faith were at (the place of) Ath-Thuraiya (pleiades, the highest star), even then (some men or man from these people (i.e. Salman's folk) would attain it.
