  • A Q&A with Andrew Scott of FLEABAG. Moderated by Lesley O'Toole.
    Fleabag (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) is back for a second bite, and this time she is going toe to toe with the man upstairs. In an unexpected twist of fate, our lost little rascal meets a Priest (Andrew Scott) who jolts her into seeing the world in a different way. Picking up a year on, there are still old wounds to unpick and new ones to dress as the next chapter of Fleabag’s life takes her to hell and back.
    Since the end of the last hilarious series when her entire family rejected her, her darkest secret was revealed and she nearly threw herself in front of a car, she’s back for more laughs than ever.
    Joyful, bleak, poignant and sucker-punch funny, the original cast is joined by a car-crash of new characters as we delve further into the world of Fleabag. With hope and faith at the core of season 2, our heroine finds herself in the midst of a battle she is determined to win: Fleabag Vs God.

    "Fleabag came from a very personal place for me. It began as a way to get Andrew Scott to dress up as a priest and tell me that he loves me. It took me six years and two seasons to achieve it, but I did it [...] I don't care about awards, I just want gay men to love me." - Phoebe Waller-Bridge on SNL

      Yeeeessss! It drives me nuts when he says -and bless his heart for being so humble- that it must be the dog collar, or whatever, that does it for people, but NO ANDREW, it’s ALL YOU, with all that charisma and sexiness , mijo! 😍!

    It's so ridiculous to be asked as an actor "well, how can you play a straight person when you're gay" but no one says " so, how do you go about playing Hamlet when you're not a Danish Prince" the answer is "erm, it's called acting"

    • @doctornov7
      @doctornov7 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree. However, I feel that people who have an experience of a lifestyle or culture likely have a better intuitive ability to 'play' those parts, simply because they've lived it. As Andrew has said, what you're essentially playing are attributes. So, cast for the attributes rather than the sexuality/gender etc. That said, there needs to be more equal opportunity in the industry to allow anyone to develop the skills to play these parts.

    I only discovered Andrew Scott (in Fleabag) last week, and now I’m completely obsessed with him, watching his interviews and Fleabag S2 on repeat 😄. I LOVE listening to him talk, he’s so engaged and engaging and honest. And gorgeous. He’s a fantastic actor too - I was totally convinced by his performance in Fleabag 🥰 - soooo hot! He’s the kind of guy I’d love to sit down and chat with; interesting, thoughtful, smart. Perfect. Now for Sherlock, and the rest.

He always in multiple interviews I've seen, brings it back to the thing itself-- the art. Good man. Good artist. Bravo, sir.

    Him and Phoebe have great chemistry. Doesn't have to be sexual, they just bounce off each other. We all know those people we meet in our lives when we get along so easily and well with others, and yet it doesn't have to be sexually based.

    what I think it's the best thing in the show and specially around the relationship between Fleabag and the (real hot) Priest - beyond their absurd chemistry, of course - is the subtext. The things that aren't said but show up between words and looks they give to each other... like when he mentions the story about the guy who wanted to be a saint so much that he castrated himself... "wack!" (omg i'm a fleabag nerd) this of course speaks about how turned on he is and how he almost thinks of doing the same thing to avoid ruining the life he built as a priest, same when he stares at her saying he sometimes thinks he's only for the outfits... the dialogs are so involving. best series i've ever watched. (same speaking speed as when she says 'best sex i've ever had' to the misogynist who may not be a misogynist when he shows up when the priest dropped by.)

    • @Aloizza
      @Aloizza 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Exactly! Andrew himself said that silent moments between them are as important as words and omg - are these silences charged! But it's not only about what's left unspoken between them, it's also about what she doesn't tell us, because as the season progresses she becomes more and more quiet and she almost entirely stops speaking to us her audience about him, and that's how we know that there's something deep and serious going on here. God, I just can't get over this show, it's so layered and nuanced I could babble about it forever.

    I don't know if I'm just delusional, but from the way he talks and stops talking for a while, and his natural nervousness which I totally associate with, having social anxiety and all - I think acting is a way for him to take a break from himself, and that he is just... born to be an actor. I am so glad he found his calling, not finding your calling can leave you a mess. Great, great actor, you can really see how he puts his heart in his work. I hope he knows that we see him, and we appreciate him.
