David Tennant remains my favorite Hamlet, but Andrew Scott is the most interesting. His Hamlet managed to make me forget every time he spoke that he was reciting Shakespeare lines. He sounded like the words just came to him as he was speaking. I felt like this Hamlet I know, I met in a pub some night.
It's weird but Doctor Who spoiled Tennant as any other character for me. My favourite Hamlet has always been Brannagh's 1992 radio play for the BBC. I hated his movie though.
"What about that feeling, when you're lying dead as Hamlet? Isn't it a *great* feeling?" "Yes, it is....you genuinely feel like you've been through a whole life." Yep yep yep. Thanks a bunch for uploading this! I had friends there who tried to explain how great this Q&A was, but you really just have to see and hear it for yourself.
I loved that this interpretation actually made everyone smpathetic, and also put emphasis on the tragedy of it. Watching it was the first time I actually felt genuine sadness, especially seeing the picture of the family right at the end. Brilliant interpretation.
Great great interview! Andrew isn't just a great actor but also a good teacher. The way he explains such delicate things and the way he goes deeper and deeper in production and acting things makes better understandable the process that made this play so unique. Really thank you for sharing!
Andrew is not only a brilliant artist but a great human being, insightful, genuine, and kind to his audience. He lets his audience during interviews go through the whole play and lets it understand every bit of it. It is very refreshing to see an artist who can articulate himself, who is a very insightful, simply wise human being.
Just saw the show today, and I promise, you all need to see it! This version is the best I've ever seen of Hamlet, and I've seen many versions (including Cumberbatch's). Please, if you're in London, get yourself to this show!
I totally agree. I saw it the night it was filmed - June 27th. For me, there will never be another Hamlet other than Andrew Scott. Folks, if you think his Moriarty was a twisted and tortured soul, you ain't seen nothing yet!
Alex Creed same! It is a new yet brilliant take on this amazing play. I have seen Cumberbatch's and Maxine Peake's versions of the play; but this is the best by far!
I like how he used humour in the performance. I’ve seen a couple of Hamlets live, Daniel Day Lewis and Rory Kinnear, but this was the most interesting, accessible one.
Check out the slang definition of 'slow roast.' See how Andrew glances at the audience after he uses the expression. Then try to watch the rest of the interview without smirking! On a more serious note : it's a great insight into the creative process & he is always very articulate. The production & his performance in particular deserve all the positive attention.
Terrific Q&A to get an insight into how Scott and Icke interpreted the play, the characters, the everything......and the process of getting to the production as it is today. Interesting that during a discussion of The Seawall (Andrew Scott and Simon Stephens) Simon opined that Andrew should play Hamlet (this was about 2013/2014).....One of the best interviews I have seen in ages. Thank you so much for sharing. So insightful.
the best of all in my memory. Until now. I saw Andrew at the Pinter in London and he has taken the crown for me , having also seen in on tv and again via recording.
Thank you for posting this! What a great interview, he talks so beautifully and in depth about the work, production and everything really. Loved listening every minute of this. Just really sad I didn't get to see the play. Hope to see it in some form someday.

And the Hamlet you met knew nothing of iambic pentameter. It was awful.
@@pf32900 Good. The power of Shakespeare is drama. Scott put that front and centre, and nailed it.
@@pf32900 Thank you. Hollywood hustlers proclaiming to be serious actors should not be indulged.

@ 25:00 for anyone else looking ✌🏻
I love the fact that he respects his audience instead of treating with derision.

I totally agree. I also didn't know that they film the productions. If so, are they available for purchase at some point somewhere?
Alex Creed I don't know when or in what form the recordings will be available but just keep checking once in a while.

Im curious, how huge was the theater? What was the capacity of the audience?

The best Hamlet I have seen!!!!

Wish I could have seen his Hamlet. Come to NYC! We open Sept 14!
I saw it this week and it really is an amazing production! Good actors, and the transitions flow effortlessly! Well done :)
I am 80 and have seen Hamlet soooooo many times. I was fortunate to see Mark Rylance in Bath in 1989 and since then he has been
purpose of art is to teach us how to live a better life
I saw this the other month and it was absolutely incredible. No other words for it
I get to see the production next week! SOO EXCITED
I just have no words because Andrew is so intelligent and brilliant person🥰and amazing actor✨

Soooo interesting !
Thank you
I was there. 😅 I didn't know it was on TH-cam. So strange. Ian McKellen was there as well btw.

Was Andrew Scott in England this December? There hasn’t been any recent interviews with him.
My boyfriend calls to Andrew "The GOAT" Yeah darling, he's THE GOAT!

maybe one day Edward de Vere will get the credit he deserves for the plays, including his autobiography, Hamlet
get a different conspiracy theory
@@artieash6671 it's just a pseudonym, not a consipracy theory
he said fucking like facking, aw
You think he did enough Q&A’s for this production?? Geez
Moriarty and Sherlock...
Moriary's senstive side
To take seriously a beastly little snot like Scott as Hamlet requires a level of self-delusion beyond my capacity.
Saw his Hamlet ‘To be’ speech ... overacted, slow and just drawn out for effect. Sorry, not for me.
That’s funny it really stood out to me as honest and real, not overacted like David Tennents
What a shit take.
Apology accepted.
