I am a “Wine ambassador” at a winery in California and I am in love with you. My guests love that I lay out the truth to them about wine in easy to understand terms while questioning things at every turn. and I am thrilled to find you as I feel you do the same. Thank you for information that I will attempt to pass along to California wine lovers.
We have a lot of lovely Burgundian Chards in the cellar but our mid-week go to, especially in Canadian winter, is Le Clos Jordanne, from the bench region in Niagara On The Lake area in Ontario; by Chard master Thomas bachelder 9who also has holdings in Burgundy!
Nice video, thanks. In Zagersdorf, Burgenland (Austria), a burial mound from 700 BCE had an urn within and seeds inside the urn were identical to chardonnay seeds.
@@KonstantinBaumMasterofWine The urn apparently contained wine, and a few seeds remained in the bottom. There is some suggestion that chardonnay may have moved from Austria to France with the monks.
I got to try and purchase a half bottle of a late harvest Long Island chardonnay, the color of motor oil, very viscous, sweet and raisiny. It was memorable. Perhaps not very refined, but memorable nonetheless.
Still flying under the radar: Chardonnay from the Jura, especially the Sud-Revermont. Producers like Labet, Ganevat, Courbet and Buronfosse should be on every Chardonnay lover's list.
Thank you for your videos. I enjoy watching them. 👍 Chardonnays I like are elegant fresh with some notes of barrique (Chablis, Meursault). I also like the wines of a small winemaker from Burgundy (Mâcon La Roche Vineuse, Saint-Véran).
my favorite chardonnay is either from Gantenbein, Donatsch or Studach, all from the Swiss canton "Graubünden". @Konstanin Baum you should actually do a video, tasting Swiss vs. German Chardonnay (Saalwächter?) would be curious. thank you.
When first learning about wine generally, the wine that taught me my most serious lesson was a Californian 1998 Fetzer Barrel Select Chardonnay. I recall seeing either Russian River and/or Mendocino County on the label. Instantly I knew what 'oaked' meant. £8 a bottle (a lot for me then), I've never tasted a wine with so much impact since. So I have tried a few since, within my humble budget, from Ca and Hunters but never recovered that wonderful moment. In my search however, Jerome from Calais introduced me to and encouraged me to try Les Setilles (Olivier Leflaive) which was then about £9 and a new chapter began which is happily bankrupting me! (hee hee!)
Thanks for a really entertaining video again. My best Chadonnay by now was the "Würzburger Stein Chardonnay - R - 2015" from the Bürgerspital winery in Franconia. I also had some French ones and a few from California aswell but non of them was better (although I have to say I never drank some of these really expensive "icon Chardonnays" so far). Still have a Chateau Montelena Chardonnay in my cellar, but did not open it by now so maybe I'd like it even more but I don't know.
@@KonstantinBaumMasterofWine Opened one bottle of my Chateau Montelena (vintage 2015) now. Was watching "Bottle Shock" with my girlfriend and which wine could be better to drink while watching this film? I like it very much but I think the "Würzburger Stein Chardonnay - R - 2015" is still my favourite also they are pretty close to each other.
While I have had some incredible Burgundian chardonnays and have a special puligny montrachet waiting for me in my cellar, the best chardonnay I have had was a Cullen Kevin John from Australia. Australians tend to shy away from patriotism when it comes to culture, but I have to reluctantly say that this was better than anything else I have had.
I live and work in Gold Coast, Queensland and I have this amazing Chardonnay on list at the restaurant where I work. Unfortunately it's not easy to obtain here in the subtropical Australia, but I had a chance to taste once the 2011 and 2016. Rich and structured but the acidity is always lively. Australia has still many things to learn from Europe, but some producers are amazing. Especially the ones with german and scandinavian backgrounds with the passion, seriousness ,scrupulosity typical of those populations, that I truly respect. PS: I'm Italian so I'm not biased 🙂
I think my favorite Chardonnay is vallet freres batard Montrachet grand cru 2007 or arnaud ente mersault. I’ve had DRC 76 Montrachet but it was past peak and was slightly flawed.
You had a bottle of Dry River in your screen shot for this video.... but then you never mentioned New Zealand? I’m sure our good stuff isn’t easily accessible to people on the other side of the world, that’s a shame! I think you need to come visit some day :) Pretty sure Jancis described NZ as THE CHARDONNAY COUNTRY.... maybe because it’s a varietal that is produced at very high quality from one end of the country to the other.. encompassing every type of climate and style. So for a Chardonnay lover it would be one hell of a holiday!! Although if we could travel I would be off to Burgundy... or somewhere closer like Margaret a River in Australia! Isn’t wine great :) Cheers Konstantinos 🍷
Hi Konstantin! I’ve seen you visiting Markus Schneider. Unfortunately, I didn’t understand much as you were using German language. I met him in London when he came to my restaurant where I had two of his wines on our list - red ‘Tohuwabohu’ and white ‘Kaitui’. How do you find his wines? Thanks
I love a chardonnay from a small winery in Missouri named Riverwood. It is definitely their best wine, but I don't think they know that. It has notes of apple, butter, and minerals with a really nice body. I wish there was a way I could help the winery promote their chardonnay
I like to chill my white wines like Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. Is that ok to do in the wine world or looked down upon??? I love your channel by the way!!
When I started to drink more white wine, I was desperately searching for a good affordable Chardonnay and I have almost given up (remembering the Leflaive Wines I enjoyed at my father's home). Eventually, I found the Napa Valley Chardonnay from Black Stallion for around €20. I am very happy with it.
The best I ever had was Giaconda Estate Chardonnay... better than all the best GC in Burgundy I ever tasted, but other than that ... my favs are around Meursault most of the time, and some Puligny :) recently the SB County were a good surprise, but still they follow the reduction, lees and sort of Auvenay/CD style which every white wine producer seems to be trying to do like in every appellation in the world... hopefully there are rieslings :)
kistler, cryssalum-s.a. greg norman-canada, neudorf kiwi....velich tiglat austria second 2 none. fuck overpriced/hyped burgundy! i love the montrachet at 9 years plus but $1100 a bottle puts me off cheerio
kistler noistiers has been one of my biggest deceptions ever... fatigued wine, like a premox 90/2000 burgundy ... still all the OZ's are great at 25/40 € price point, and kiwi's ... lots of them ! Napas' are ripe and overpriced too @@jerzystruczak782

I had a guest demand wine made from Chablis grapes. When I tried to explain Chablis is chardonnay he got very belligerent. "Don't confuse me with the facts". I also had the opportunity to blind taste a Chassagne-Montrachet against the best Acacia chardonnay. It was a a long time ago, but then I thought it was a tie.

“Thanks for 1000 subscribers”, and now he’s rapidly approaching 150k. I have no doubt I’ll get this video recommended again when he’s at 1 mil
Thank you Konstantin, You're amazing. You have boosted my knowledge and I always use your videos for my exam prep
My favorite still Chardonnay so far is Lafoa Chardonnay from the Kellerei Schreckbichl in Südtirol (ITA)
Thank you Konstantin 🤗 🇬🇧
I'm "like" 1000 - funny to hear you thank people for 1000 subscribers and 2 years later you're over 100,000 subscribers. Congratulations!
Thanks Konstantin, I live near Kermit Lynch in Berkeley. They often have wonderful vigneron makers from the Chablis region.
Wonderful Contant thank you so much for these videos and blogging about wine myself I will definitely recommend your channel
Leeuwin estate art series Chardonnay is my fave Chardonnay, what a wine.
Chablis hands down is my favorite Chardonnay, white wine, and wine in general.
hi latest renditions of ch. 1er cru from fevre and droin were biting tart=lil' enjoyment cheerio

Another great and concise video. Cant help but noticing that some pinot noir has sneaked into the frame at 1:14 furthest to the left. Great content!

I haven't found a favorite Chardonnay. Still looking!
Yes, it will happen eventually.
Really enjoy Morillon vom Opok bei Werlitsch

I still think any vintage of Kistler chardonnay has always been my go to wine
Mistletoe, Napa Valley. It’s liquid Angel’s Hair. Superb.
I love chardonnay from Burgundy, for example Henry Boillot.......
That is a very good producer Stefan!

Would you say chardonnay is a good step for a beginner for white wine. Im usually a pinot noir and moscato drinker
Etienne Sauzet Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru 'Les Combettes' an exceptional Chardonnay
That's a great choice

Thanks. No, they should be consumed chilled but good whites should be consumed at a higher temperature. 12 Degrees Celsius is fine.
what is your favorite wine with roasted chicken? oaked chardonnay, or dry riesling?
Both work very well but I would prefer oak aged Chardonnay.
thanks for the answer! ❤️
Gotta throw out my vote for Sandhi Rita’s Crown as my favorite so far.

What is the book you have here? With leaves and so ?
Grapes by Jancis Robinson and Co.
A flinty chablis with some steak baguettes, frites and salad :-)
Also! More on clones please
Vasse Felix Heytesbury Chardonnay is affordable and a top one from my point of view.
I agree!

that 2009 dry river :0
my favorite: no chardonnay
