- Today's exciting addition to the 2021 Christmas Box is one Martha, Anna and I have been working on since the beginning of the year...
As a lot of you may have noticed I wear my denim apron most of the time, so we thought it might be fun to commission some Last Homely House aprons, so you can all wear them as well! Martha drew a fantastic drawing of Eileen the goose, which along with 'The Last Homely House', we have had embroidered on them.

(Did you spot Agnes my granddaughter playing with the fly swatters of all things! YUK!)

Here as promised is the flapjack recipe. It is Mary Berry's The Queen of Cakes and won't disappoint. It is in grams, I hope that won't be a problem?
125g butter
90g golden syrup
90g brown sugar
250g porridge oats
set the oven to 160'C
melt the butter and sugar, add the syrup but don't heat too much or your flapjack will be too hard - ask me how I know - stir in the oats when everything is nicely melted and spoon into your lined baking tray
bake for 30 minutes and cut into pieces as soon as it is out of the oven unless you want to do battle with it when it is cold.
Rocky road
Just crush some biscuits, melt butter chocolate, marshmallows, dried fruit, other unhealthy things and put it in the fridge. Hardly a recipe really.

I purchased this apron over a year ago - and I LOVE, LOVE it so much. The long ties and the deep pockets are just super. Not to mention Martha's image and lettering are the icing on the cake. Thank you, Martha and Kate. ps: My husband wears it too!

Loved seeing Martha drawing and Agnes. She is so cute! The apron looks great and is a nice size. You bake like I do. I scrape every bit out of my bowls. It drives me nuts when I see cooking shows and they don’t scrape their measuring cups or bowls. Can’t wait to see the next item. 🤗🤗

I have just started watching this channel and I am learning so many new things and all the differences we share. When she said she was going to make flapjacks to put in the Christmas boxes, I thought she was nuts. How would she - and why would she - wrap pancakes in a Christmas box!? LOL I definitely have to google this and learn to make them. They looked fantastic!

Putting on an apron changes everything! Confidence! Creativity! Dare I say it, it’s the kitchen equivalent of a crown. Which is why Eileen is perfect on your apron. I never met a goose who didn’t rule the roost. Thanks for sharing Kate, so glad you’re feeling better.

Strangely, we make a similar recipe that we call Scotch Teas. My son actually had me send some to him from Georgia, USA to Afghanistan when he was in the Army stationed there. We use butter, brown sugar, a bit of salt and baking powder, and the oats. I never though of adding nuts or other things, so thanks for sharing.

I love it!! What a fun apron. I have never had “flapjacks “. Our food by that name is southern or country pancakes. I thought that these were just an oatmeal cookie but they are different from those too. We will have to give these a try.

That apron brings back memories, I made my husband a couple of real denim aprons as he was a milkman 50 years ago and they were very tough, no embroidery though just pockets !

Never heard of flap jacks. The rocky road is called "Arretjes cake" in The Netherlands. When I was a child my mother made it on saturdays. My sisters and I crushed the biscuits. We called it chocolat cake. About 15 years ago I learned the real name was Arretjes cake. "Arretje"was the name of a brand just after the war 2. It was not real butter but something cheaper and you could make this cake with it. And other things of course.
Learned something - I always thought flapjacks were pancakes. Live and learn ... :)

The aprons turned out lovely!
Flapjacks are very different in the states, so I was surprised when you made these. A flapjack here is a pancake / griddle cake, eaten with butter & syrup.
Until today I had no idea that I needed Goose wallpaper.......but now I do! Love it! And the apron looks perfect. Ooooh, pass the cake tin please. ❤

Hi Kate, I just love, love , love your videos. I am so glad you are well and getting back into the swing of things. You don't know how much I have missed visiting the last homely house with you and the cats. I have to tell you basically in the past I have not liked cats at all. Growing up as a scared little girl my boy cousins use to frighten me with them by throwing them on me and they would scratch with their claws; so I developed a dislike for them at an early age. But let me tell you that watching you and all your cats ( I know them all by name) I have grown quite fond of your cats, and don't even mind when they interfere in the processing of the video. So very sorry for the lost of Norma. Will miss her presence. During the time of your illness I have probably watched all the videos you made back to 2017 or 2018. I just love sitting on the green sofa and having you in my studio as I work. Your voice is very soothing and I am glad to have you all back. Love, Carol

All of this is new to most Americans. Flap Jacks here are a form of pancake, so my husband (the house baker who loves to make pancakes-- as well as pies) was curious about British flap jacks. And now we have to look into what the heck your rocky road is. (Here's it's an ice cream that you either love or hate.)
