  • Make sure you're watching at 1080p 60fps.
    The video on the left is the original video deinterlaced properly with QTGMC, on the right is the result after restoration with the Artemis LQ v7 model.
    I find that older models (Artemis LQ v7 & v8) sometimes achieve better results. The current one (LQ v12) is way too aggresive with noise reduction.
    For less noisy video Artemis MQ v12 works best.

    You could crop the video on the bottom with handbrake, also there is still some flickering but cool side by side.

      I usually do it for my videos, I used virtualdub to get the videos side by side. Also the flickering happens because this was filmed in NTSC (60hz) and my country's electrical grid is 220v 50hz.

      @@Hhuespewhen you mention the flickering is due to it being NTSC and it's not the same frequency as your power grid, do you mean you captured the VHS yourself, or is it just a file on your PC? I'm in Canada... NTSC at 120v, and we also get flicker when transferring vhs. It's not the powersource. That's ridiculous. I'm pretty sure your country has 60Hz monitors and tvs. Either way, NeatVideo removes that flicker automatically.

    That is great also for that rare 1994 VHS movie The Raffle with Mark Hamill and Jennifer Clements.

    what would be the best settings for old vhs tapes on topaz video ai enhancer?

    • @Hhuespe
      @Hhuespe  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      After extensive testing, I found that the Artemis LQ V8, not available in current releases, cleans up best while preserving the most amount of details, newer versions are too aggressive. I think VEAI 1.3 has that model.

      @@Hhuespe Another question sorry, do you have grain on or off.

    • @Hhuespe
      @Hhuespe  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@93vincentvalentine you can disable grain, I believe that if you need it, maybe your model is not suitable for the source. It still looks artificial IMHO.

      @@Hhuespe Thanks again for your help.
      I was fiddling around a lot with Artemis LQ/MQ/HQ, in most cases LQ was amazing to use, except for this one family video of mine that was very blurry and LQ.
      I tried using Artemis LQ but everyones faces were messed up to the point where my grandfather's face looked like a video game face trying to render itself into the video and my sister who was 11 at the time had bags under her eyes lol.
      So I tried Artemis HQ for this particular video and it gave me the best results, the only downside was that the video didn't look as clean as the LQ version.

    The program is far from the possibilities of artificial intelligence. The IA program should first analyze what is in the photo, and more precisely on every movie cage. Then he should match, blurred image, a clear picture. Such an improvement is for nothing.

    It cleaned up a lot of noise but it lost a lot of details. Look at :24 you can't even make out the guy's lips and nose.

    • @Hhuespe
      @Hhuespe  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      You're right, but this issue is due to youtube's AVC1 compression, which is terrible. They reserve VP9 and AV1 for popular channels or videos with high view count, look it up. The original actually has all the detail.

    • @l31007
      @l31007 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      nah, the entire software sucks

    • @Hhuespe
      @Hhuespe  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@l31007 trust me, what you're seeing there is not the original detail. That's what remained after the compression, take into account that the compressor has to try to preserve some level of detail to make it at least watchable.
