What I appreciate most is the lack of wastage. Many woodturners have the habit of taking the ugliest wood stump and turning it into the most beautiful toothpick. A big part of understanding your medium is not throwing most of it away.
I thought the same thing! My bandsaw scares me more than any other tool I have! My wife and kids gave called my sawzall a thumb saw for almost 20 years, and for good reason!
All the good things have already been said. That’s just mind blowing. Didn’t even realise you could buy coloured plywood, let alone make it into a piece as amazing as that.
That's really lovely! In quilting, that pattern is called bargello, especially where it uses mixes of widths to create motion. Yours did that naturally, just by staggering the color segments. Nicely done!
@@Azatoka2 Thanks so much for being interested, but compared to the folks I'm still learning from, my skills are pretty basic. I'm more of a 'try it and make do' quilter.
Your brain never ceases to amaze me Jack Mack. You could make millions in somebodys think tank, but I will bet it is not all about the money with you, is it ? I love it , as always .
I wonder what patterns would emerge if you rotated the rings, or used only two colors or something. Or different thickness of layers. You could do a series, "Variations on a Theme."

YES!YES!YES! You put a LOT thought & work into this piece. I love all the color. I love OP-Art. I did a lot of b/w pen & ink pieces in school. It’s a lot of fun.
@@JackMackWoodturning No, and I’m not sure why… I’m not sure why but I never did clay sculpting as an adult - which I was engrossed in as a kid. Perhaps it’s the ADHD. 🙄 What I’ve been doing these days is single panel drawing/cartooning with Prisma Color pencils (adult crayons) on cold press watercolor paper which has a lot of texture. The combination give it a bit of ‘childlike’ energy. I’m doing them for greeting cards I’m making. I also have all the materials, but not the space, to do both Acrylic and Watercolor painting. And most of the supplies to start doing jewelry…LOL And I write non-fiction, fiction, & poetry. And And And… I’m really self taught. I went to school for art, but really what happened was they said do _____, have it done in two days…but never actually showed us how. @@JackMackWoodturning Actually I think the reason for not continuing some of these is the ADHD. I didn’t know about that until my early 50s. It sure explains an awful lot, especially my childhood.

I wouldn't personally have that much color for anything I own but man is it a neat pattern. Wonder what this would look like with just wood tones. Excellent craftsmanship as always. I wonder if you'll ever show us a mistake/blooper/scrap-this reel too. Sometimes the skilled seem so far away from normal that we forget they can make mistakes too.
