This was great! I agree with his point about being relaxed. Your arms and legs act like a whip that way: it's still fast and powerful. During my black belt test, one of the instructors said I have a lot of power, but I'd have even more if I'd loosen up. Taekwondo was great for helping me overcome my insecurities.
Great Channel. It's great to see the sharing of knowledge and skills of different martial arts. No wonder he is the Philippine champion. He even do leg stretching during the video chat.
I began my Taekwondo training in 1986. My school was a more traditional style in those years. Our stances and style was a hybrid of ITF and WT. When I left for my Naval Duty in Japan, I took a 14 year break from Taekwondo and pursued Filipino Martial Arts in Yohohama and Tokyo. Upon returning to America, Taekwondo had changed drastically. I essentially had to relearn Taekwondo for Modern Poomsae and Application. I am currently a 6th Dan in Taekwondo, and also a National Level Poomsae and Kyorogi Referee. The nuances of modern poomsae are designed to essentially even the playing field. There is much less subjective criteria and lore objective criteria for high level poomsae competition. Athletes such as those on the Philippine National Team are amoung some of the very best!
I attained very high crisp controlled kicks by; extreme flexibility (this creates explosive power), and very slow controlled kicks to walled or standing targets. Example a side kick would be done starting from the back leg slow shift, balancing all movements and body. Literally as if doing the kicks in very slow motion. This builds the muscles that are necessary for complete control and precise targeting. Ankle weights with swinging kicks. But you must be careful as injury is easy if not attentive. Parks International TKD Championship 1st place forms.
Do check out Grand Master Nardizzi's 2 videos on breath control it explains very clearly with illustrations. We do not rely on shallow chest breathing to do our techniques.
Unlike in some martial arts where the stances are measured according to the width of the shoulder. In WT taekwondo we measure the distances of our feet in the stances with the the length of our feet. That is why the stances are much higher. Also as a primary kicking martial art a higher unstable stance is favoured over low stable stances. Great work with collaborating with other martial arts.
Taekwondo are deeply rooted from Shotokan Karate because the Taekwondo founder (General Choi Hong Hi) was studied Shotokan Karate from founder himself (Gichin Funakoshi).
Karate Dojo waKu My name is Alan and I am currently an American Kenpo practitioner but studied Taekwondo from about 9 to 13 years old. I am 40 now but I still remember my Taekwondo training. You mentioned in this video about the high stances and I heard Mr. Rodolpho give you an answer but I have an answer that was was told to me many years ago and understand it to be accurate. The reason for the higher stances is simple....its for easier movements. Because we use high kicks in Tae kwon do we need to have I higher center of gravity. If our center is too low, it will pull our kicks down and make the kicks harder to do. To throw higher kicks we have to have a taller stance. This is the reason why Karateka have mid-level kicks due to their lower center of gravity. Does that make sense? I saw in your other videos you said you could never do that but the REAL key to high kicks is a taller stance. Try it and you might see. But stretching is also very important. The RIGHT kind of stretching and hip alignment. Hope that helped to answer your question about higher kicking. Arigoato Gozimasu
Hi im your new followers I’ve seen and watch all of your videos and i really love them. Hope you can make a review about Rafael Aghayev Kumite Highlights. Im from the Philippines.
I know that teakwando came from shotokan karate, there was a Korean general who was practicing shotokan karate, and later he created hes own style and called it teakwando. And that's also why teakwando is not too old martial art as a karate, cause teakwando I think was created in 1940s
find a good dojo... if you live in the states there are tons of "MacDojos" that are nothing more than money grabbers. Look for JKA affiliation as they are very strict with their techniques.
JKA , JKR (Ryobukai), SKIF (RIP Kanazawa). ISKF (RIP Okazaki),JKS, IJKA, ASAI (RIP Asai) 😊 a lot of excellent Shotokan organisations.. but their technical chiefs or founders passing away a lot in the past decade.
If you want to see what tae kwon do is you can watch Scott Adkins vs ip man it’s a very good fight scene but the the thing is that Scott Adkins is a real tae kwon do practitioner not a stuntmen In his movies you may think that he’s a dick and an not an honorable martial artist but in reality he is a really nice guy from what I’ve heard If you want to see a karate fight scene watch ip man vs Japanese general, the style is shotokan and wing chung sorry if I misspelled this karate style
thmain1 2 yeah he is master at tae kwon do but he mixes it with karate so from someone who doesn’t know tae kwon do is goin to be hard to see what it actually is compared to scott adkins he only knows one and that’s tae kwon do
Well, 35 years ago when i quit ITF you were supposed to press your under lip up towards your front teeth and make a "fuhh" sound. Was told that the reason why was to help you breathe out correctly after every technique. Today the ITF sounds are different, even more noisy. When i quitted ITF (great school, but...) and started WTF it was totally different. WTF/WT is more like in karate/Shotokan - abdominal breathing with no noise (breathing with low resistance = higher oxygen intake.) A couple years ago i asked a head coach in a local ITF club about the change of sounds. He told me that the breathing sounds they use now is just today's "fashion."
But... I trained ITF for 6 years - 35 years ago, and quitted when i was 11 years old. It's better that an active ITF practitioner do the explaining about the breathing noises. But in Taekwondo it's too much politics now. How is it in Karate? BTW, the reason why i found your channel is because i need more inspiration, watch something different. Even though about joining a local shotokan karate club, maybe try it out once a week. Learn something new...
I guess you didn't actually get the idea of the "Breathing" in ITF Patterns. It is not for fashion nor for making the Pattern look more awesome, but instead, it is an application of the Theory of Power in ITF. Proper breathing will help you generate more power and contract your muscles for a more powerful attacking tool. But I agree WT/WTF has different art and the breathing is more like in Karate.
Who else do you want me to collaborate with?
It would be very cool to see you chat with Jesse Enkamp!!
I'll make a video about you and then you can collab by making a response to it if you can.

Yes it’s very important..I tend to tense up too 😅
Same to me! (It must be my Shotokan previous discipline, I think)
I like how you collaborate with other artists as many arts came from same root, have similar techniques just probably slightly different emphasis
Yes exactly! It was a great opportunity :)
Yeah, there's so many martial artists out there to collab with. It's awesome meeting them all, I've met some really cool people through collabs

In taekwondo sparring we only see leg attack but in poomsae there is punching
You mean in WT, because in ITF you use many different punching techniques

In ITF we use punches a lot,ITF is closer to Karate in term of sparring

WTF/WT no breathing sounds. ITF - much breathing sounds..
Can you explain the reason behind it?
