Hi, in isothermal compression as the volume decreases, according to sign convention the work should be negative. As V final is lesser than V inital the log term would be lesser than 1 and hence negative. So theres no need to keep an extra negative sign. In adiabatic compression, the final temperature is greater than the initial temperature but as 1- gamma would come as negative, the whole term would be negative. So no need for negative sign again. Hi, in isothermal compression as the volume decreases, according to sign convention the work should be negative. As V final is lesser than V inital the log term would be lesser than 1 and hence negative. So theres no need to keep an extra negative sign. In adiabatic compression, the final temperature is greater than the initial temperature but as 1- gamma would come as negative, the whole term would be negative. So no need for negative sign again.
