The rhythm is catchy... but the piano!!!!!!! Wow!
One quick thing...the Who is in the 'video' (really the scene from the rock opera) but the music for this version of the song was played by Elton's band (Nigel Olsson drums/vocals, Dee Murray bass/vocals, Davey Johnstone guitars/vocals, and Ray Cooper on tambourine and congas).

You need to listen to early Elton John (late 1960's, to mid 1970's). Elton could rock!

The Who returned the favor as they covered "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting" by Elton John. Also, Roger Daltrey released an amazing version of "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me". Both can be seen and listened to on youtube.
Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding
This is the Pete Townshend penned Who song, "Pinball Wizard". The first two songs ("I Feel Like A Bullet" & "Grow Some Funk Of Your Own") are from the Elton John album, "Rock Of The Westies" released in 1975. Whereas "Ho Ho Ho (Who'd Be A Turkey At Christmas?)" was the B-side to the single, "Step into Christmas".
Many years later, the Who returned the favour by recording their own version of the Elton John rocker, "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting"! It sounded great! Almost like it had always been a Who song!

Fan made video cut from the movie "Tommy" leaves off the funny ending where Elton is carried off by the booing crowd and all you see are his shoes.
The Who did a live version of Tommy at the Hollywood Bowl back in 1989. Elton John was the pinball Wizard, Phil Collins was Uncle Ernie, Billy Idol was Cousin Kevin, Steve Winwood was the Hawker, and Patti Label was the Acid Queen. Must see Patti Label doing the Acid queen, it's awesome

Elton said they chose Rod Stewart to play the pinball wizard. Stewart asked Elton what he though and Elton said he wouldn't do it so Rod declined. They then asked Elton and he decided to do it.
Oh I know this song, but I never paid attention to the lyrics, nor did I see the movie or even know that this song was a part of it. I think Elton has a wide range of songs available where he gives it his all and shows different sides of him, not just heartbreak ballads. Are you ready for more Elton John? Roger Daltrey sings it on the original Tommy album. Elton John sang it on the soundtrack to the Tommy film. Another pretty cool thing about the Tommy movie is Jack Nicholson is in it and he actually sings. He plays a doctor who Tommy's parents brought him to see as they hoped for a miracle cure.

🎶🙉🙊🙈 Tommy is a rock opera, by The Who, released in 1969, made into a movie in 1975, starring a who's who, so to speak. To understand the movie you have to listen to the album and get to know the music first, IMHO. The movie is trippy, fun and disturbing. In 1992, Pete Townsend brought it to The La Jolla Playhouse, it was fantastic!!, and from there to the Broadway stage. The movie and play follow the album and the characters are brought to life with the lyrics. I hope you take the time to listen and watch Hap, you won't be sorry!! I enjoyed your reaction! I saw the movie with my parents in 1975 when it came out. I was 15, very sheltered, and very confused when I walked out of the theater, lol. It absolutely was trippy and disturbing even to my limited understanding. The music is fantastic though, and well worth checking out even if you don’t ever watch the movie. But I highly recommend it as an experience for your life. 🤷♀️🤔🤦♀️🥴😄

Elton was considered a rock n roller when he first started. A huge rock star! It’s only later years when he became more of a balladeer. He has LOTS of rock and roll songs in his catalogue. Check out Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting!
I was and still am a huge fan of the movie Tommy. HAP, go stream the movie. It is a musical and I could go on & on about it but you definitely need to see it. It's a must! ❤️🥰❤️

@@chrisy8989 There is a Tommy soundtrack album which contains many of the songs from the original Tommy album, but with different arrangements. My favorite is "I'm Free" with a familiar song but with Roger Daltrey singing it in an entirely different way than on the original album. "Sensation" is another where Daltrey sings the song differently but in a very good way!

Saw this movie several times in the theater. It came out in I believe around 1975? There may have been substances involved. Don't think I'd watch it now? IF I remember correctly? Tina's role was um. Interesting. (She played the Acid Queen) Very trippy movie!
Elton turned down the role several times at first but then was promised he could keep the shoes

This is from the Rock opera Tommy. If u haven't seen it, I highly recommend it.
Nice reaction and your comments show that you are more familiar with the ballads than anything else. You don’t know Elton’s catalogue do you? He loves the ballads but he’s rock’n’roll, blues, RnB, country, glam rock, pop and other genres.

I saw the movie "Tommy" when I was really (too) young, still a kid, and it made me feel weird. It was kind of disturbing, some scenes I didn't understand (but will later). There's a weird number with Tina Turner, I still see a scene with a snake coming out of a skull (?!) Also I didn't know about "The Who" and its' singer Roger Daltrey, I actually thought for years he was just an actor :-)
I'll always remember his face in "Tommy", his blue eyes unnaturally staring at just one direction (he was playing a blind man), it scared me in a way, lol
But the music was memorable, although I wasn't ready to comprehend the story at that young age, the songs did stick in my mind. But didn't watch the movie afterwards. I was able to repeatedly watch "Hair" though, for example, the musical more to my liking than "Tommy" (but it's just my preferance).
So, this one did bring a childhood memory. A trippy one, but still sentimental in a way :-)
I watched this movie when I was 14, I never watched it again and to this day I find myself singing snippets of some songs from the movie!

All before you were born
"I Feel like a Bullet" was another song on Elton's Album. The Who were not on this track in reality, even though they are in the movie. This track was by Elton and his band, they just faked it in the movie. Now the original was indeed by the Who, but this was Elton's remake.

The movie Tommy was an odd movie. I remember my parents watching it, totally thought it was weird. Watched again as I got older, still an odd movie.
Good music for the movie....just an off the wall movie for me 😀
The film has Who songs performed by, Eric Clapton, Arthur Brown, Tina Turner, Elton John, Jack Nicholson, Ann Margaret, Oliver Reed, Paul Nicholas. The original album and the film represent milestones in both music and cinema. Must see viewing if you're a serious music fan.
Eh, you might want to listen to some Elton John 1970 - 1976. It sounds like you're listening to his later stuff. Elton John was one of the hardest, energetic, rockers around at the time, especially in 1975, when this was released. Listen to Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding or Saturday's Alright for Fighting.
Watching this again, I just wanted to add that it is funny that people of today thinking Elton is a balladeer might come from a skewed view of his career via 'react to' videos and modern music streaming services. Growing up listen to Elton during the vinyl record era, people generally didn't just listen to singles. We bought and listened to entire albums. And with artists like Elton, who produced a huge number of songs (two albums a year in the 70s) not every good or loved song made it to single status, and so could not chart. Elton was seen then as a multitalented artist that defied pigeonholing...he made amazing songs that were pop, folk, blues, R&B, country, rock, reggae, etc. Listen to the double album 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road' and you'll get more of an idea how Elton was viewed at the time.
Elton initially turned down the project, but was talked into it by director Ken Russell. And true to form Elton and the band wrote/recorded the song in less than four hours. In 1975 Elton and his band(s) also wrote and recorded two full albums, 'Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy' and 'Rock of the Westies'. Both debuted at #1 ('Captain Fantastic' being the first album to do so in music history).
Peter Townshend: “Elton arrived at the Battersea studio in a Phantom 5 limousine,” he wrote, “similar to the one used by the Queen; I hadn’t seen one in the rock world since Andrew Oldham’s in 1967. It was a revelation to observe how quickly and efficiently Elton and his band worked, nailing a driving track with solos, lead and backing vocals in less than four hours.”
You could react to the entire movie and the entire album, And your fan base will just grow and grow.

The band that we hear is actually Elton's own band, but we see The Who on the screen. The original "Tommy" album version is much more subdued than this cover. Elton John and his band absolutely Rock, blistering our ears.
The movie also had Oliver Reed and Jack Nicholson in it, and Ann-Margret won the Academy Award for best lead actress for her role as Tommy's mother. Her musical performances in the flick were electrifying, but 1975 really was otherwise a weak year for female film performances.

This was Elton John’s arrangement. It ironically rocks harder and has dirtier vocals than the Who’s original version. This version was produced by Elton’s producer Gus Dudgeon.
