    Honestly don't know if you'll see this but this is helping me so much with one of my pieces I'm trying to learn for my all east stuff. It's a lyrical piece so learning vibrato is going to be crucial.

      I see and read all my comments, thanks for checking out the content! Vibrato is an essential part of lyrical playing. It really is the key to creating your own unique sound on any given piece. Happy practicing!

      Vibrato is such a useful tool especially on trombone. It keeps us closely related to the human voice.

    I try this on My One and Only Love and it was so nice! I found that the slide mixed with the mouth wobble works really well

      Being able to mix both vibrato’s is great. Having options is important! 😉

    What would happen if you used both the lip vibrato and slide vibrato at the same time?
    would it come out weird or would they stack on each other?

    • @TheChopsShop
      @TheChopsShop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It would be difficult to keep the tone going with your mouth and arm moving.

    Hello - What syllables do you use for the lip vibrato? Thax!

    • @TheChopsShop
      @TheChopsShop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I think about any syllable, I would say "ouuhh." With vibrato, I'm think more of manipulating the airstream as opposed to moving my jaw. Yes, the jaw will move but that's not my focus of attention.

    Hey Deon ,
    Just a question from someone still in the early stages.. I've noticed when I play, the mouthpiece naturally is slightly to the right , as in not completely the center of my lips.. do you think this is an issue I need to fix and keep the mouthpiece right in the center of the lips ? Or because it's more comfortable like this is it okay ? I'd be really interested to hear your thoughts 👍

    • @TheChopsShop
      @TheChopsShop  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your question. A lot of players play slightly off center. It's not the biggest deal if things are comfortable for you. The important thing is finding a comfortable setting for your aperture.

    I use diaphragm vibrato mostly. You did not mention that. I know most trombone players do not use it.

    • @TheChopsShop
      @TheChopsShop  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m completely unaware of diaphragm vibrato. Does it create any conflicts with supporting the airstream?

    • @kevinmckee8185
      @kevinmckee8185 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@TheChopsShop I don't think so. I learned to do it on baritone before I played trombone. I then had a trombone with an overly sticky slide; diaphragm vibrato helped with that situation, too.

    • @PaulTarussov
      @PaulTarussov 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@TheChopsShop diaphragm vibrato is how flutists create vibrato, so it's definitely functional. However, jaw vibrato or slide vibrato seem to sound better and avoid any kind of messing around with air support. I don't know many brass players who use it! Certainly not any well-known players I can think of.

    • @TheChopsShop
      @TheChopsShop  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I had never heard of any brass players using this technique and can imagine it could wreak havoc on your system while trying to stay relaxed.

      I had a trombone teacher tell me he uses diaphragm vibrato -- maybe because he also plays tuba. I have a hard time understanding how it works - do you rapidly tighten and relax your stomach? Sounds tiring :)
