The fact that you’re consistently putting out rich, high quality content such as this and not have 100x the amount of subscribers is criminal. Keep doing what you’re doing!
Thanks for the kind words. I've got no plan to stop anytime soon!
great stuff
Love this, thank you for explaining the theory behind what you’re doing. Basing the scale off of the fifth was new to me and I can’t wait to try it out!
Thank you so much! New areas to work on, using your ears and your head! You sound beautiful!
These videos are so good, I've got so much stuff to work on
Shawn is the man!!
IM putting down my alto an tenor saxophones down for a bit . going to pick up a trombone tenor .to start i been just useing the mouth piecec .when i get my horn i will follow thank you
Thanks Shawn just what I'm looking for
Me too.
Thanks for great videos, I love the tune and can't remember who played it? anybody can tell?
Herbie Hancock has the original version of "Cantaloupe Island".
Gosh great but please slow down
Great sound looks like a large bore bone 🍖….when I think of jazz I think of small bore ….this horn sound very nice…great player tho.
This is .525 bore horn so on the bigger side but still a small shank mouthpiece. It is funny you noticed as I am actually in the process of switching to a smaller instrument right now. I just happened to record this video a month or so ago and hadn't posted it yet.
@@ShawnBellMusicThanks for the free lessons!! What small bore did you move onto....?
@@ScratchySlide I've hopped around on a few horns since I posted this video. Right now I am doing most of my playing on a bach 36 that has been customized to be a modular style horn(removable lead pipe, convertible bell, etc.). I have been playing on this horn for the last 8 or so months and it is really giving me what I need.
I have no idea what you’re talking about. Since this is lesson 1 from your point of view, I guess I need lesson (-10). I guess I’m in the wrong place to learn to improvise by ear.
Thanks for checking out the video. You are right that this one would probably seem a bit confusing/overwhelming if you are just getting started as an improvisor.
I released a 6 lesson series last winter that takes you through the process of getting started if improvisation is new to you. I put the links below. Hopefully these help get you going in the right direction.
