    When removing the battery, you need to disconnect the negative terminal first. That ungrounds the battery and removes the possibility of arcing when removing the positive terminal. Essentially, the habits you mentioned are the opposite. Also, the plastic covers in the new battery help prevent accidental contact if a wrench were to fall and touch both terminals. Corrosion can build up, and that's why they provided you with the extra stuff. It's probably ok to add the dielectric (non-conductive) grease after installing the terminals. You don't want to put it between the posts and the terminals, though. That would reduce the connection between them.

If you do positive then negative for removal (and negative to positive for install), while it has a zero chance to cause physical harm to a person (unless its a spark that causes a leak explosion), it DOES have a decent chance of damaging electronics in the vehicle.

    Never hit the terminals with anything, you can damage plates. This whole video was well produced but full of bunk info.👎🏾 it’s negative positive to disconnect followed by the reverse when reinstalling.

      Good catch. If you do positive then negative for removal (and negative to positive for install), while it has a zero chance to cause physical harm to a person (unless its a spark that causes a leak explosion), it DOES have a decent chance of damaging electronics in the vehicle.
