That is the problem with college football coaching contracts. Jimbo can just tank the program and get paid a huge buyout. You have to put in some incentives for a contract like that.
If I were a Texas A&M fan I would be disgusted with what I've seen from Jimbo and honestly the AD as well you guys are literally stuck with this guy for years now and haven't seen anything to suggest things will get better maybe even worse the way things are looking

For 5 years fans from FSU have told you who Jimbo was (not a fsu fan). All I heard was recruiting and see this game. Even though every year, even with the Covid season it was trending this way.

@@theace8502 Very young team overall. Jimbo's insistence on being the play caller. His scheme being outdated and too complicated for a questionable QB with 1.25 games under his belt. Also, the offseason tirade about Saban's NIL comment. That showed me that Jimbo had the idea that going 1-11 was a success as long as the win was against Saban. My predicted wins were Sam Houston State, Appalachian State, South Carolina and UMass. With the first loss being App State, I knew they were a very bad team but I just got the teams they would lose to incorrect. To be honest they should have lost against Arkansas as well but somehow pulled out a victory.

@@ryannorton1278 Their was more truth than fiction in the movie Varsity Blues. What I am about to say is true in a lot places. A fair number of people care more about winning a football game than laws or ethics. I’ve seen police hush up DUI’s and underage drinking cause dude is key to winning district and possibly state in high school. Now magnify that at a college town like college station. The amount of corruption to keep infractions swept under the rug are more on par with corruption for organized crime syndicates. It’s why I laughed when they were talking about how the NFL was going to clean up their image with all the unethical things done by NFL stars. For a lot of players it’s been reinforced, even from the day they start Pop Warner football, as long as you win you can do what ever you want without consequences. By the time they get to the NFL they are grown and it’s to late to break ingrained behaviors.

Sumlin drove off 3 Top 20 in the US Quarterbacks.. including Kyler Murray ( Arizona Cardinals) and Kyle Allen ( Houston Texans) .... Complete disfunction in Sumlin's bait and switch recruiting practices that sent those who mistakenly bit...fleeing from A&M. Good riddance to Sumlin.

The reason you fire Sumlin is that there was only ever regression once Manziel left. The reason you hire Jimbo is bc he won a NC (albeit under similar circumstances to Sumlin, but didn’t play in SEC at the time - so not the same grind to get there.)
The reason you extend Jimbo is bc LSU & their AD wanted to hire him away from A&M after the 2020 season when he help lead them to 9-1 & top 4 AP finish. So you saw things that lead you to believe that they’re trending upward. I know Ags have had injuries, but there’s literally no reason to ever be 3-4 in the SEC with the type of talent that’s on campus.

Probably more to do w/ Big money ags that wanted to prevent him from going to LSU - but you aren't arguing w/ me. I didn't think the extension was necessary. Maybe bump the salary, but not extend him for another 3 years beyond his current contract.
Sumlin was terrible and he was losing 5 star talent.

No offense is good .. when the playcalling is garbage either. Does A&M have a special teams coach? My high school had sharper, more fundamentally sound special teams. I just love seeing A&M return men call for a fair catch on the 3 .. insuring being pinned in the end zone. A decent High School coach tells his return man to let anything that travels beyond the 10 .. go in the end zone. Just wondering why a $200k/yr Div 1 "special teams coach" can't manage that?
Exactly. Play calling isn’t the issue (even though it probably could be better) it’s the O-line.
These big buyouts remove the incentive for the coach to work hard. Jimbo would love to get fired and receive 86 million for doing nothing.

And Joel is quick to throw those close game wins as "shoulda been losses" while ignoring the close losses (1 goal line play short at Bama for example) as "could have been wins". Yeah, A&M is bad this year. But it has more to do with injuries (O-line killing the QB and not creating running lanes), NIL players who got paid and give the middle finger to discipline, and Jimbo needing an OC and simplified offensive scheme, than much of the drama Joel ran through.

It has been a disappointing season no doubt about it. However, all this doom and gloom is over the top.
Pretty sure it isn't over the top. A loss to App St. Numerous players have been suspended, rumors of freshmen ready to enter the portal after the season, players sitting out of games because of "the flu," recruits decommitting. It's ugly and it'll get worse.
Texas A&M University has once again dropped the ball on its choice of an acceptable football team stadium entrance song. Within days of eliminating a song by Kayne West due to derogatory racial comments, they quickly chose a song laced with racial slurs and extreme profanity once again. But why? Giving them the benefit of the doubt, let's simply hope this is a mis-quided individual in the athletic department attempting to hone his trolling skills. Perhaps just being a good soldier and following orders? We may have a textbook social studies case here dealing with the decline and decadence of our civilization. Is the song "Bonfire" developed by the musical artist Childish Bambino, a result of that decline or a promoter of it? Perhaps both sadly. Does A&M really want to get involved with that? Regardless, the song runs counter to everything the university is attempting to present in the public sector. "Leading The Way", "Producing Leaders" etc. Its as disturbing as it is baffling.
A reminder here of The AGGIE CODE of HONOR: "Is an effort to unify the aims of all Texas A&M men and women toward a high code of ethics and personal dignity ". Get prepared to hear some really outlandish takes to rationalize the existence of something that reflects so poorly on TEXAS A&M. LYRICS ARE PART OF A SONG.

This has been a perfect storm of a bad season, but there's a ton of hyperbole here. If Jimbo hires an good OC ($) and they don't have a disaterous injury situation next year, they will be fine next year. I think it's actually kinda funny that Joel is more bullish on Brent V & Sark. Brent has zero track record as a HC. Sark has a track record of 60% win %, and he's actually unperforming that at UT.

I agree with you on majority of what you said outside A&M being closer to 1-6 than 6-1. A&M was 2 yards from beating Bama on the road and one bad Haynes king pass away from beating App State.
I'm sorry, but A&M was also a doinked field goal (Arkansas) and a muffed punt at their own 7 (Miami) away from being 1-6. t.u., however, is a dropped pass by Iowa State away from 4-4.
