I have also made the sorrento denim jacket, last year, and am really pleased with my make, and love wearing it. Like you had a few issues around the collar and went of track a little. Mine took me a good few weeks, as I would just do a bit when felt like it, I took the top stitching very slowly 😁.The pattern was easy to follow. I hope you are on the road to recovery very soon xx.

As a former Administrative Assistant and Office Manager, it just makes me crazy to see those mistakes and I wonder why they haven’t been found/corrected before. Sometimes I think about volunteering to proof the directions! I’ll admit that I’m too critical including my own typos. I’ll find a mistake that I’ve written a month down the road and knowing that nobody will read it or care, I have to correct it! On the other hand - “auto-correct” is the bane of my existence on occasion, LOL! Enough ranting from me. Back to sewing! I’d like a black denim jacket and a red one! I just love red. PS - I’m sad that you’re experiencing some pain. There’s no time for that…

You deserved it! I just noticed that I have the same sewing machine as yours. I’m having problems with the zigzag stitch. It pulled the fabrics in the middle! I’ve tried using 3 different threads on both needles and bobbins, Gutermann, Madeira and Coates and they all do the same! I was wondering if you had ever experienced any problems with yours? My machine is only 6 months old. My dealer told me I’m doing something wrong!! Would appreciate your thoughts! Thanking you in advance for this! Shirley xxx

I love your version Rachel. I too have made this jacket and enjoyed the process immensely. I made mine out of a demin coloured linen for the summer as i wanted something lighter...it came out great.
Love your Sorrento Rachel, it looks fantastic! I made it with a Hunter green denim. It’s such a satisfying make and I’m just in the middle of a corduroy version for my daughter. High praise indeed that she wants the same as me!

I’ve just made this as well! I have made it out of a couple of pairs of my OHs jeans that are too big for him! Pattern Tetris to cut out the pieces, but like you I absolutely love it - just got the button holes and buttons to do - waiting for them coming from The Trimming Shop - a lot cheaper than Amazon. Yours looks absolutely fab and kudos on the pretty damn ace top stitching! Mine is black so I’ve used black top stitching thread which I think looks better black on black and gunmetal jeans buttons - 17mm. I agree the instructions were very good and it’s been a really enjoyable make xx
Great jacket Rachel, I love these slow sews. I made the Atenas jacket and feel really proud of it but had endless trouble with the tension on my machine (same as your machine) with top stitching thread and so I just went for normal thread in the same colour as the denim. Can you remember what you had your tension set on for top stitching?

It's a real winner. You will get years of wear out of it because like you say its a classic. Did you use top stitch thread for the buttonholes too? I've got the Ash jeans ready to make for autumn but I dont have an overlocker do you think they will look ok without an overlooked finish? That's the only thing that scares me. Looks lovely! Perfect on you completely. I’ve made the Athenas from Itch to Stitch (twice) which is a terrific pattern too. It has cup sizes which is a definite benefit for me. I used the jeans twin needle for one of them but the down side is you see that zig zag on the back and it felt a little rough against the skin. It’s also a little trickier to go round corners sharply. Doable though. I’m not sure I’d use it again but you do get perfect straight topstitching in only one pass which is a real advantage! Hope you feel better soon by the way.

Ideally I’d like to go off my hb so the shoulders and waist fit me but Id need to do a fba which the thought of is already giving me a headache 🤣

If the machine isn't acting up, I go off line. the thread breaks, I run out of bobbin thread and the end and start shows up, or heaven forbid I sneeze at an inopportune time.and it goes askew. I am just finishing a jean vest for my grandson and practically broke out in hives. Why should a simple garment cause so much stress? I think it is because the jacket is so popular and is judged more harshly than other garments. I think you passed in flying colors!
I think you should make a pink one. It would go with so many of your makes!

I’m tall, as you know, and I bought a denim jacket and cut the sleeve cuff OFF! It’s so much more comfortable. Better option: make my own.

Hi Claire, the Itch to Stitch Atenas denim jacket has different cup sizes if you don’t feel like doing a FBA 😃
