    Good idea for a blind test. I thought it might be closer but the Tele was pretty apparent within a few seconds on the clean tones. It may have humbuckers but it still retains the more articulate Tele sound. I prefer the Tele Deluxe's sound between these two. Thanks.

    I didn't try to guess which was which, just the sound that I preferred.
    In this case I was ready to accept either guitar as my favourite sounding one and in all the sound bites I preferred guitar X, the Fender Telecaster Deluxe.
    Just my honest blindfold test personal preference through a decent sound system.
    Nicely done Landon. 😁

    I liked Y and figured it was the Les Paul. The neck was a bit warmer/vintage sounding and the bridge fuller and darker. But they both sounded great. Perhaps if you had used a 60's LP or an SG it might have been closer in sound but their will always be a difference with the different scale length. Thanks for the blind test.☺☺☺

  • @grawman67
    @grawman67 ปีที่แล้ว

    Awesome showcase of these two tones, Landon. They're really cool guitars but really sound so different. The Tele Deluxe's scale length and maple neck really give the guitar more highs and sparkle with great note definition. The Les Paul is warmer with more sag in the notes and more of a midrange. Both sound great and I love them both. It would depend on what sound I wanted more but I do have a really fondness for Tele Deluxes.

    Got it right… actually surprised how close they are, but the Les Paul definitely has a bit more in the mid-range

  • @MashaT22
    @MashaT22 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    I got them right. The fender is a bit more treble leaning and spunkier, especially by the bass tones. The longer scale length is likely the main reason for that. The tones might have come closer had they used a short scale length. I still prefer the Gibson. The Fender can come close, but it’s still not quite the same to anyone who knows their Gibson tones.

    Think they both sound great. Fender's Wide Range Humbuckers are just a tad brighter and are a little bit of a giveaway. My question to you is if you like your Les Paul? I've really enjoyed rotating through my different guitar styles. Kind of inspires creativity. Just wondered if you like it a little better than you thought or if the weight complaint is still valid? 🤘🎸

    Lots of people praising the tele and rightly so… but man that lp with gain is THE sound. Its all in the lower mids and that bottom end is just crazy. I love the sound of that fender and I’m looking at picking one up but it’s really it’s own thing. Theres only one guitar that can go the lp thing and that’s the lp. It’s still not the best thing ever but when you need it there’s nothing else. Personally the explorer is my fav because it combines the elements of the lp and sg tg. You still get that low end and growl from an lp but with the mid range punch of the sg. Its not scooped like an lp and they are just gibsons secret weapon.

    I'm shocked i got it correct. I'm normally bad at these tests.
    I think the difference i hard was string gauge and not pickups. I was guessing the one with less low end was the fender.

    Hey Landon! Clean neck brings the answer: as for me, the X has no treble at all (the same i got at my G&L Tribute Tele Bluesboy - i replaced neck humb to have more treble). So my guess was right then. By the way, i rather prefer Fender bridge humb over Gibson. Maybe that mix could bring a new sound combo?)) Thanx for the video!

  • @thesullivanstreetproject
    @thesullivanstreetproject ปีที่แล้ว

    Both sounded good, but I preferred X a bit more. Of course, in a mix both would be great to have for a rounded-out sound. If I had to choose one, I'd go with X, which is unsurprisingly a Tele. Awesome comparison!

  • @g.sferrazza10-13
    @g.sferrazza10-13 ปีที่แล้ว

    question would the differences be noticeable enough in a mix with drums and bass? If not then comfort and price point would be the definitive factors in choosing between the 2 guitars

    I had a Tele Deluxe for awhile, I actually recorded clips playing the same riffs of both it and my Les Paul. When I listened to them back I like the LP sound more in every example. I ended up trading the Deluxe for a standard Tele. Gibsons are for rhythm, Fenders are for lead imho.

    Got it right. Very clear difference in tone and type of sustain. Gibson always sounded a bit muddier and less clear, although still with distinctive character. Middle position better on Les Paul. The others I prefered the Fender.

    I have a roadwarn tele deluxe and about a month ago picked up a 60s standard. First Gibson and it feels great, i was surprised because ive only had fenders up to now. I still love fender but easily les paul > tele deluxe. Fuller sound, shorter scale length is a nice change, i find the bridge easier to palm mute, the range of tones from vol & tone pots is wider & its prettier lmao

    I got it right the first time. I don’t know if I preferred one over the other they both sounded good in their own way. Fender sounded a bit more harsh. You could just pick it out as a more fender sound. For some reason it was more obvious with the distortion.

  • @A_Noid

  • @RichMansci
    @RichMansci ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I'm a LP fanboy but I preferred the Deluxe. You should do a comparison of this Deluxe with a Classic Vibe version. I wondwr if it is the scale length or the pickups or both that makes the difference vs. the LP.

    • @grawman67
      @grawman67 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Scientifically, I would say that both the scale length and pickups make the difference but it could be possible to make them sound more similar. The scale length generally gives more note definition in chords and more treble. The wide range humbuckers do this too. They're bigger and made differently so they have more of an airy treble quality with more note definition. Having a rosewood neck/fretboard or PAF humbuckers might make it way more similar

    The wide range humbucker is a real jem of a pickup.

    Got it right, because the Telecaster was brighter. In this case, I like the Telecaster better for that reason, it makes the LP sound muddy, but maybe it wouldn't if it wasn't being immediately compared 😉
    But also, I thought only Squire was 21 frets, and Fender were 22... that one is 21... which is also one fret note shy of the LP.

      I was pretty sure I knew which one X was at first but hearing Y sealed it for me. The difference in note definition, midrange, sparkle vs warmth, it all really comes across well in this video. Landon killed it here

      I just use thicker strings on my lp

      @@bobdillon1138 I disagree but concede that the interpretation is highly subjective. I have multiple guitars with shorter and longer scale lengths and the longer lengths and higher string tension (in standard tuning) definitely, to my ear, produce a more expressive/lively tone.

    I think what gave it away for me was the string tension on chords. You could hear the gibson strings just vibrate more cause of the shorter scale length. Thats always been the biggest difference between fender and gibson. Fenders have a wonderful punchy staccato cause of the scale length, meanwhile gibson have a little more flavor and resonance cause of the extra vibrations from the strings on that shorter neck.

    I got it correct! Yay! The Tele for me always win even though I own both. I am not a fan of the Les Pauls muddy low end. I much rather clean clear articulation of the Tele guitar. Ibanez has good articulation as well just fyi

    On that video of Five Watt World they said, that Fender is known for a brighter tone than Gibson, so Seth Lover designed the wide range humbucker for the '72 Telecaster Thinline to sound brighter than a Gibson. I thought guitar X sounded just a tiny little bit brighter and so it had to be Fender.

    I may come across as biased, but you can get the LP tone by adding a little bit of fuzz and mids with pedals... tele deluxe for the win

    I forgot to guess but I liked the cleans of Y and the dirties of X.

    Maple+Maple vs Mahogany+Rosewood...
    It a big difference, but with a little of work in the EQ both of them can cover any situation.
    Personally I prefer the Fender feeling, but everybody needs a Les Paul in their life.

    I guessed right, Telle was X and I like it better, The sound to me on the Les Paul was scooped out and sounded weak, the Telle was brighter and more full.

    At first I thought X was LP because it reminded me of hotter LP pups like the 490T/498R. Then I remembered the LP had burstbuckers which have lower output. Guessed right. 💪

    As someone not particularly familiar with either, I thought that they were quite close. The Deluxe is certainly a totally viable replacement/alternative to the LP sound. Fender did good.

    I got it right, but the difference is slight. I have to say I prefer the wide range humbuckers (to the extent they are different).
