    The SJ RG01 Goggles have so much potential. They are a great size. I think with the Fresnel lens (especially since I’ve now seen that they are replaceable) they will work for a lot of people without glasses. But the screen resolution is just so low that everything looks bad and block. They say they are 920x240. It looks to me like they have repurposed old cell phone screens that didn’t get used. With that in mind I did a complete teardown of these with the hopes that maybe someone has an idea where to get replacement lens that we can try in them.

    I had a look around and I think 480x240 (2:1 ratio?) and 360x240 are the highest resolution you can get on one of these little 1.5" panels. I think our best bet is to replace the lens with something that's less powerful to reduce the FOV and pixel size. If we can get the FOV down to around 40 degrees the pixels may not look as large.

    Even without removing all the inner parts I had a hard time assembling them back, so it's definitely going to be a challenge after removing them ;-)
    If only they have included VGA screens, they could have produced an amazing pair of goggles. LCD prices are not that high these days and I think that customers would gladly add a couple more bucks to get a much better FPV experience.. Just my two cents.
    Love your work, keep it up!

    This is really good. I like when people are not afraid of trying. Yeah, it might not work out as expected and there might not be an easy solution to this, but I really think companies are not doing enough and we need to do something about it.

    I think as before these goggles seem quite decent.they had some decent reviews.if can change as suggested great stuff.quik rant.everyone who I seen recently complain g about all ways being last commenting and not having a chance it's not just about the giveaways as some seem to only comment when it's giveaways.its about the learning.the help.the great deals he finds for us.and it's about the fun and laughs in most videos.i think most would agree with me.great video buddy.

    Did any updates to this ever happen? Just got these, and then I found a few monocle lcd screens meant for telescopes with higher resolution, on aliexpress. They've even got 'shrouds' or whatever you want to call them, to eliminate light leakage

    The important number is ALT-015ESLN-J2C. This means it is a 1.5 inch HD screen.
    Best 1.5" screen that fits the dimensions in your video I found is 480x240 (YBT15P00) . This was through alibaba. Comes from mainland china.

      do you know about the IC compatibly ?? between them ?? i have these goggles with broken screens and just like to get them back working it would seem that YBT15P00 are listed as 480x320 but likely to be 320x240 but you have any luck on non stock screens at all ?? thanks

    Dude, those screens really looks like old cellphones screens. Those with colorful screens that come before smartphones. You know what I mean? Anyway, I don't think it's going to be difficult to find replacement! Great job, BTW! 😊

    I wouldn't have a clue as to what to upgrade on these.but after upgrade would not be darer therefore maybe buy better
    But if stays cheap after upgrade then would be well worth it.these are good.not big not small.and certainly not expensive.

    Did you measure the diagonal distance? Most screens are measured by their diagonal length rather than the actual dimensions
    Seems like any screen will be about 1.5-8 inches diagonal, I might be wrong.
    BUT... it looks like there might be a way to fit in a larger than strictly recommended screen. There's space at both ends of each, and even if some of the image gets cut off, betaflight can rearrange and compensate for that easily. How about a 1440x1440 screen for shits and giggles? www.alibaba.com/product-detail/HMD-VR-AR-device-display-sharp_60732962621.html?spm=a2700.7724838.2017115.127.40245a09V0ApNa
    There's also a 1.5 inch 480x240, but I'm not sure that will be worthwhile, even at $5 per (and assuming it's compatible)
    I might try to stuff a 4k module in some box goggles at some point www.alibaba.com/product-detail/2160x3840-Sharp-5-5-Inch-4k_60727697966.html?spm=a2700.7724838.2017115.250.40245a09V0ApNa

      Really glad you're taking a peak at these, by the way, even if it turns out they used the best screens the internet can find. My next step would be 3D printing, but I neither own a pair of these goggles nor have ready access to a 3d printer nor have any meaningful experience with 3d CAD.

    What i dont understand why do they have to make 2 tiny screens at a resolution of say 720p? I mean come on the screens are an inch big, wtf these companies really need to stop being so rediculous about such a small part of the goggle.

      Jordan Anderson ...I can tell you that ev100s are clear as a bell. Just small fov. I still use the ev100s for outdoors, but use my vrd2's for indoor.

      Exactly. The ev100 are the clearest goggles I’ve ever seen. But the image is really small. I would use the EV100 and be happy. I would not be happy with these as is unfortunately.

  • @anujchandkapoor

    I just fail to understand why can't anyone make a good goggles . I use fatshark and i hate some of it but they are still better than others..

    • @QurttoRco
      @QurttoRco 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      These goggles would be alright actually, the screen is big enough and resolution is alright and they are nice and light, only problem is the receiver is pretty rubbish. I don't understand why couldn't they just make it with "fatshark" module bay

    • @SimRacer101
      @SimRacer101  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      My reception was good enough. 300 meters and longer looking good. I just couldn’t handle the image quality.

    • @SimRacer101
      @SimRacer101  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s the $300 minimum cost of entry that makes us have Fatshark alternatives. That just isn’t a realistic starting point for a lot of people.

    • @QurttoRco
      @QurttoRco 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      if you can't afford fatshark traditionally you had to settle for box goggles, but they are big and usually uncomfortable. So people want lighter smaller goggle. And problem is fatshark is the biggest one around, so if you want to be competitive you have to undercut them

    • @anujchandkapoor
      @anujchandkapoor 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      DroneRacer101 I agree. Do you remember the days when futaba and such radios used to rule the RC market with its its super high cost and limited features and then came Frsky and one review from Bruce and it redifined the market. I just wish someone could come up with such a thing in the goggle market.
