Majoras masks dungeons somehow always feel just as mysterious and difficult as they were when i first played them, and the quests to get to them feel very much the same.
The Forsaken Fortress intimidated me so much as a kid that I had to call my big brother upstairs, but when my brother showed me a picture of dead hand it just made me say "ew". I don't know what was up with me
i still don´t know how people don't really recognize Twilight Princess as one of the most perfect Zelda Games,. Man, it is always over top 3 in ANY topic
Twilight princess knows how to look cool, spectacular and fun on a surface level, but when you look deeper than that, you can see that most of it is deceptive. Its crazy combat techniques are made up of one push of a single button. Same goes for its dungeons. Except for the Lakebed temple which has an actual complex layout that will put the player's spatial awareness to the test, all of its dungeons are either glorified corridors (Goron mines, Snowpeak ruins, Temple of time, Palace of Twilight and Hyrule castle) or loops (Forest temple, Arbiter's grounds and City in the Sky) with no overarching or interconnecting puzzles that ask the player to understand how the dungeon works and how its rooms connect to solve it, contrary to what actually great dungeons like the Water temple from OoT, Great bay temple, Stone tower temple or Sandship do. Nintendo deserves huge respect for pulling such a magic trick of turning a barebones, bread and butter Ocarina of Time clone like Twilight princess into such a hype machine that keeps fooling the best of us to this day.
Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, and Ocarina of Time have the best dungeons. Twilight Princess has the best aesthetic dungeons which include Snowpeak Ruins, City in the Sky, and Arbiter’s Grounds. Skyward Sword has some of the most unique dungeons which include Ancient Cistern, Lanaryu Mining Facility, Sandship, and Sky Keep. Ocarina of Time has the most iconic dungeons which include Forest, Water, Shadow, and Spirit.
In the case of Ocarina, Water is iconic for all the wrong reasons lol. Forest and Shadow Temple are the ones that truly stand out in my mind as great in Ocarina. Spirit Temple was a great concept but one that I feel Arbiter's Grounds executed much better. ( Switching forms on the fly. ) Having to abruptly leave Spirit Temple halfway through to change back to adult link always feels like a massive pace breaker for me in Spirit Temple and Twinrova is the easiest/most disappointing boss in 3D Zelda in my opinion. You literally just sit and hold R while she juices your shield up.
@@acat3772 Absolutely. But there have been better dungeons in basically every 3D Zelda since then minus the 2 open air zeldas. I always run out of steam after I beat Forest Temple in Ocarina personally. I hate slogging through Fire and Water Temple to get to Shadow and Spirit lol. Atleast Great Deku Tree & Dodongo Cavern are super short as far as tutorial dungeons go. And Jabu Jabu has by far the best atmosphere of the 3 child dungeons.
Hyrule Castle and the Temple of time in TP have the best aesthetic..they are very underrated..esp hyrule castle. I think ocarina of time has the best dungeons and Majoras Mask has the worst.
Came here to say this. I've completed that game 3 times, and each time, I get stuck in a few of the dungeons. Used to annoy me, but then I think "dude shut up, you're always whining about dungeons being too straight forward"😂
OoT and MM will always have my favorite dungeons. The Forest and Shadow Temple in OoT have amazing atmosphere, and the Stone Tower Tempe in MM has my favorite music of any Zelda dungeon.
I think I agree with the overall ranking but I disagreed on how you assessed Majora’s Mask. Firstly: the Woodfall Temple music absolutely slaps. Secondly, I would argue that the masks themselves (namely the transformation masks) were the key items that made those dungeons come alive, not just the weapons/items.
I completely agree with this. The dungeons were built around the different abilities of their respective masks. The last dungeon is the only one that has its own gimmick
Yes! Transformation masks are crazy gameplay shifts and it's incredible how MM's dungeons have puzzles and navigation crafted around them, with the Stone tower temple combining them all. It goes criminally unnoticed, to the point where players whine about the dungeon items being "just" the bow and arrow upgrades.
Personally I'm glad Nintendo took this approach to dungeon design and hope they continue along this approach. The old way of having a specific item per dungeon is just waaaay too predictable.
@@George_M98 the uploader has some obvious bias which defeats the point of the title of the video, which is suggesting an objective stance, however when you watch the video and see which comments he likes, it's clear that things are of an opinionated nature.
@@spidiccus8561Which is inevitable on TH-cam which is a platform where people show their opinions about subject and other hints, don’t expect objectivity from a video made by one dude who plays Zelda.
imo his analysis is fair, yes bias is present but just about every piece of media youre ever gonna consume has bias. i love MM but its dungeons can be really frustrating and tedious for first time players. everyone has a different experience with the games, and im guessing this person (like me) probably didnt have the best experiences with MM's dungeons. i find his comments on the lack of item variety very interesting though. there's a lot to unpack with that and i feel like he couldve gone a little further in explaining different masks and also the fact that MM items are almost 99% ripped from OoT due to time constraints. for the most part he gives credit where credit is due though, i really don't think he's being that negative
@@spidiccus8561 Let's be fair here: one person deciding the order of a ranked list is always going to have bias no matter how hard they fight it. Attempting to be objective is admirable but it's impossible to ever truly achieve it that way. The closest we could get would be to poll as wide an audience as possible. It would still be biased towards that sample of people, but at least the bias would be diffused.
aesthetically yes, Majoras Masks items are all arrows but the actual function of them are, the ability to shoot arrows, the ability the melt fire, the ability to create a platform in ANY BODY OF WATER IN THE WHOLE GAME (still one of the best in the series imo), and the ability to flip the entire dungeon on its head. Majoras Mask dungeon item’s definitely compare to the rest of the series.
Twilight Princess would be my top pick, but Skyward Sword isn't a bad choice either. I wish I could replay just the dungeons of SS, because a lot of what you do in between dungeons feels like a drag to me.
I appreciate your insights but would like to consider that Majora's Mask might not even need to innovate that much on items since it completely delivers with the masks.
This. Well, mostly this. I do come pretty close to straight-up loathing Jabu-Jabu's Belly, for one. But I've never played a mainline 3D Zelda that wasn't fun enough to be worth finishing.
It actually blows my mind hole how many people think Breath of the Wild is the best Zelda game despite so much of the key structure of a Zelda game being found lacking in so many areas in BotW
That’s kinda the point of it. It was meant to be an evolution for the Zelda franchise. It failed in a lot of ways, the ‘dungeons’ were pretty bad but the open world aspect was amazing.
Tbh i think any take with ss near the top, and botw and totk at the bottom is a completely valid take. Its all opinion afterall... but this guy failed that... @@d3va383
I’m surprised to see totk ranked higher than botw. Totk’s dungeons were straight up awful compared to any other Zelda game I’ve played. I personally felt botw dungeons were more dungeon-esc than totk. Don’t even get me started on the water temple, that was extremely disappointing
I really do think people fail to appreciate Majora's Mask dungeons. Like really I can say I hate woodfall temple in the context of Majora's Mask dungeons. But in the context of zelda dungeons I think woodfall is better than most dungeons Imo MM has some of the most well designed, complex but still not bullshit, dungeons in the series
Stone Temple is an all-timer, and Woodfall is a solid opener, but I really couldn't get into the middle two dungeons. I plan to replay the game soon (Ship of Harkinian version) so maybe they'll click this time
Forest and Water temples in oot were the best. Most difficult thing about them was navigating them, which I think makes an interesting dungeon. Shadow temple wasn’t hard to solve, it’s very linear. The atmosphere making it scary was what slowed 8 year old me down.
I think botw temples are artistically superior to totk, botw takes an idea and works on it to its limitations in order to innovate in a way never seen before in the franchise wich is something I respect a lot. Totk was scared to dissapoint the fans not delivering classical dungeons but also they wanted the benefits of botw temples so they made a strange fusion that disappointed both the fans and the casuals, totk temples are a fraud, they try to look as classical temples but they are divine beasts in disguise and the water and wind temple are still inferior to the divine beasts anyways. That’s why I think botw should scalate one position.
@@JakeYolk no, they dont look better, divine beasts look wonderful and their theme IS masterfully implemented, the problem is that they all look too similar and they have 0 diversity, tears of the kingdom tries to be like the clasical temples aesthetically but they end up being ridicule copies of the divine beasts while also renouncing and insulting them. At least all divine beasts were finished, some totk temples look betalile
TP beats SS out overall for having more variety IMO. out of the six dungeons in SS, you have two fire temples, and two "timeshift" temples, furthermore, two of the six dungeon bosses were the same guy, and one of the other dungeon bosses returns as a non-dungeon boss. the sky keep is one i dont consider a true dungeon, mostly because of its length and that it doesnt really have a dungeon boss, but it also suffered from theme re-use.
Saying the bosses in SS are better than TP is cap too. Only Koloktos is actually good, the rest are pretty mid and the Monster Inc. Boss from the sand ship is literally one of the worst bosses in the franchise
@@Stonesands The visual designs of the Sand Ship's boss is F-tier, but I thought the encounter design of the fight was pretty awesome. It's hard to forget the first time seeing the boss's face though lol, couldn't believe that's the design they landed on. Same for the Imprisoned honestly, seemed incomplete.
Personal Ranking: 1. Twilight Princess (Outside of maybe Goron mines, nothing but bangers, and lots of them, but shoutout to all 4 mirror of twilight fragment dungeons) 2. Skyward Sword (Hands down most underrated with some of my favs in the series with sky keep, sand ship and ancient sisterns) 3. Ocarina of Time (all adult dungeons are fun except water) 4. Tears of the Kingdom (While water temple sucks, Lightning and fire temple are really fun, and the lead up and boss battle in wind are goated) 5. Majoras Mask (lake bed is really annoying and woodfall kinda boring. While I love snow head and stone tower, the time limit made me too stressed to make me enjoy the dungeon like others) 6. Wind Waker (honestly just plain forgettable and a bit bland, nothing stands out) 7. Breath of the Wild (no real explanation needed)
Twilight Princess. Full stop. There is not one bad dungeon in that entire game. All of them are at least good, with Lakebed Temple, Arbiter's Grounds, Palace of Twilight, City in the Sky, and Temple of Time all being pretty damn awesome.
My personal ranking, and the biggest positive for each game: 1. Ocarina of Time (atmosphere/music) 2. Skyward Sword (dungeon item utilization) 3. Twilight Princess (just all-around great) 4. Breath of the Wild (dungeon layout manipulation) 5. Majora's Mask (requires intricate navigation beyond what's in the other games) 6. Wind Waker (looked cool visually) TBD: Tears of the Kingdom (still working on this one)
Nice to see someone give Skyward Sword some much due love! Here's my ranking: 07. Breath Of The Wild: I agree with you completely. While I do think the puzzles themselves are good, the Divine Beasts are just repetitive and don't have strong enough identities. That's on top of how few there even are. 06. Tears Of The Kingdom I could honestly just about interchange these first two entries. Tears gets a leg up solely based on the fact that they at least tried to craft "actual" Zelda type dungeons. In terms of execution however, they leave much to be desired. The Water Temple in particular is almost certainly going to go down in history as one of the most maligned dungeons in the series. 05. Majora's Mask: Majora already takes a hit based on just how few of them exist, with only four proper, full length dungeons. In terms of quality, they're good. Yes, Stone Tower Temple is amazing, but the rest aren't quite of the same caliber. And while the Stray Fairies add an extra layer of exploration to them, it kinda cancels itsef out as it also adds an extra layer of frustration since you're on a time limit. Without those time constraints, I think their addition would absolutely bump up the dungeon quality overall, but as it stands, they're just extra. 04. Wind Waker: It's a close call between Wind Waker and Skyward Sword. Both have seven dungeons, which is a big step up in terms of quantity. So why do I place Wind Waker lower? Well, it's mostly down to how it's dungeons are mostly consistently really good, but don't necessarily have any that are top five in the series. Don't get me wrong, I like all of em', except for Ganon's Tower which is essentially a boss rush. Oh yeah, I'm not factoring bosses into this ranking. I also find the Wind Temple to be meh. There's a lot of reasons to love Wind Waker beyond just it's dungeons, and as a complete package I would rank it the slightly better game over Skyward Sword. But this is about the dungeons and so I maintain it's placement. 03. Skyward Sword: Like with Wind Waker, Skyward Sword has mostly all good dungeons, but it also has a couple of absolute standouts that are among the very best in the series. Namely, Ancient Cistern and Sandship. I also think as an actual dungeon experience, The Sky Keep is much better than Ganon's Tower. 02. Ocarina Of Time: So like with the previous two entries, Ocarina and Twilight Princess both have nine full length dungeons. And both have a great variety of them. Featuring a plethora of different themed and environments and puzzles. They both also featural several that are top ten tier out of the entire series. Highlights from Ocarina for me include Forest Temple, Fire Temple and Shadow Temple. So why does Twilight take the top spot? Read on to find out... 01. Twilight Princess: When Palace Of Twilight is the weakest dungeon in your roster, you know you've got a fantastic line up! Again, Twilight Princess features some of the very best of the best, top ten Zelda dungeons of all time. Including Lakebed Temple, Arbiters Grounds, and City In The Sky! So it really just comes down to comparing the quality of each dungeon, Ocarina against Twilight... 01. The Deku Tree vs Forest Temple Winner: Forest Temple (Twilight) 02. Dodongos Cavern vs Goron Mines Winner: Goron Mines (Twilight) 03. Jabu Jabu's Belly vs Lakebed Temple Winner: Lakebed Temple (Twilight) 04. Forest Temple vs Arbiters Grounds Winner: TIE 05. Fire Temple vs Snowpeak Ruins Winner: TIE 06. Water Temple vs Temple Of Time Winner: Water Temple (Ocarina) 07. Shadow Temple vs City In The Sky Winner: TIE 08. Spirit Temple vs Palace Of Twilight Winner: Spirit Temple (Ocarina) 09. Inside Ganon's Castle vs Hyrule Castle Winner: Hyrule Castle (Twilight) So there ya have it. 4 to 2. Twilight Princess edges out Ocarina Of Time and stands tall as my personal pick for Zelda game with the best dungeon quality overall!
This is a bit of a hot take apparently but i think Skyward Sword’s dungeons are largely forgettable outside of the Cistern and Sandship. Also Snowhead is lit.
I am SO SICK of hearing the same argument about Majora's mask lack of quality dungeon items. Yes, they all give you the bow and arrow upgrades, but honestly, do any of their puzzles revolve around just that? Of course not. Majora's mask has blessed us with the craziest gameplay gimmicks ever in the form of the transformation masks. Just think about how insane it is to have entire dungeon mechanics and puzzles built around such fundamental changes in gameplay, while incorporating many of the other items such as bombs, bombchus, the mirror shield, lens of truth, and the hookshot with cool little bonuses like the bunny hood. As for the bosses, I'd say only Gyorg is disappointing. Goht is the best of course, Twinmold is very fun, cinematic and cathartic and I love the idea of Odolwa being a raw duel between two swordsmen. No gimmicks, no obvious solution, just swordplay. Also... hot take here, but the Lakebed temple is the only good dungeon in Twilight princess. Honorable mentions go to Snowpeak ruins for originality and Arbiter's grounds for its fun boss fight. The rest is below average at best. But what about the Arbiter's grounds and the City in the sky, these are so cool, I often hear. These two dungeons consist of two elongated loops which aren't even fun to navigate. The temple of time with its gimmick of moving statues is a slog and must be done essentially twice, Goron mines and Forest temple are forgettable, Palace of Twilight is all looks and no substance, and Hyrule castle doesn't hold a candle to much stronger iterations of the same theme in the series like Lorule castle and BotW's Hyrule castle. Seriously... I don't understand the hype for this game's dungeons and I think I never will... Yes, yes and yes, it is arguable that Skyward Sword has the best dungeon lineup. The sandship is a masterclass of interweaving visual and puzzle design and the timeshift stone idea is a stroke of genius... the boss has an... unfortunate design however. The dungeons have a very unique feel to them which makes them stand out even more and they have a lot of clever puzzles, and that's saying nothing about stellar boss fights like Koloktos, the three Girahim fights, Moldarach, Levias and Demise.
I agree for the most part but there is no way that SS bosses are better than TP ones, let alone “the best in the series.” Girahim is reused two times as a dungeon boss (three in total), Scaldera is mid, Moldarach is pretty mid and it even appears as a normal foe later on, Tentalus has the worst design of any Zelda boss (although the fight ideas aren’t that bad) and Koloktos is amazing. I didn’t even mention the imprisoned which we all know how good it is…
Skyward sword> twilight only if it has this dark eerie touch like tp has. This continuous darkness vibes makes the game for me absolutely perfect+ the music and boss fights/ items are great
I'm normally a huge fan of aesthetics - if its visually cool idc if the puzzles are lackluster, but I hardcore disagree with the idea that BOTW dungeons are worse than TOTK. The tears dungeons are shorter, have a poorly justified existences, literally nothing remotely puzzling, and a drastically less spectacular setting. Where the Divine Beasts struggled in having similar interiors, their presence in the overworld, their visual designs integrating their respective interactive 3D elements, and having actually engaging puzzles absolutely makes the experience of going through them infinitely better than TOTK's dungeons.
My order for dungeons: 1. Skyward Sword 2. Twilight Princess 3. Ocarina of Time 4. Majora's Mask 5. Wind Waker 6. Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom I put BotW and TotK together because they are both bad. BotW is worse with theming but at least could mess with the Divine Beast to change the layout. TotK has better theming but it's arguably easier to solve the dungeon, thus making it less puzzle-y.
I feel like Majora's Mask having only 4 dungeons let them really flesh out how they feel and play. Stone Tower remains my favorite Zelda dungeon, I think it has a fun gimmick and the aesthetic is top tier.
I disagree with MM-the masks replaced the items so it should not be the main criticism. Also ranking BOTW lower because the dungeons had the same theme is not fair. I think BOTW dungeons were all supposed to show most powerful Shiekah inventions so it makes sense they look similar, but the concepts and puzzles were quite fun. SS is also one of my favourites along with TP, and I would say the only disadvantage of TP dungeons was they were quite easy. Both TOTK and BOTW have solid dungeons. I think people overlook how interesting was the overall journey. Not everything needs to be kept in 1 dungeon, because in TOTK the overall dungeon has multiple stages. Like getting the Scale from the Zora king, then exploring the wind fish then shooting the scale and exploring the bottom of the lake, then swimming up and unlocking the last puzzles with a boss- it’s a different pacing and I liked they didn’t keep the same rhythm to each dungeon but they broke the pace by leaving some things for the very end. There are also so many references to OOT in TOTK that I feel there is more depth to the game than people first realize. The new games should not be compared to the old ones, but appreciate for how they have evolved. I feel TOTK is the best Zelda overall with SS and OOT being tied for a second place. But I still see BOTW and TOTK as 1 game-like a perfect reimagination of OOT.
Very Good Video @Hud!!! I Still Haven't Played Twilight Princess Or Wind Waker Or Skyward Sword Yet, But Out Of Those Three, I Want To Play Twilight Princess First! Ocarina Of Time's Bosses Were Very Memorable Too! 😉👍
I would definitely put Skyward Sword in the "better dungeons" category for 3d Zeldas, but the annoying pre-dungeons messed with the pacing of the game. It was a slog instead of an good experience. Just get me to the dungeon already.
0:01 Before i view the video i will firmy say - NOT Majoras Mask..great bay temple and woodfall temple are both horrible. Ocarina of time has the best dungeons..Forest Temple is the best of all time. Hyrule Castle and the Temple of time in Twilight princess are also a very underrated dungeons. The wind waker had annoying dungeons..forsaken fortress and wind temple worst two. And i never played skyward sword but the aesthetic and concept of ancient cistern looks cool.
I don't quite agree that Skyward Sword's dungeons are better than Twilight Princess', though it is close, and the dungeon design was probably the element of Skyward Sword that was the least affected by ill-advised changes. I do, however, think the Ancient Cistern in particular is the best Zelda dungeon to date, driven by its themes and atmosphere and their basis in the classic Japanese story The Spider's Thread. That made for a wonderful discovery once I watched a TH-cam deep dive about it.
ZELDA GAMES ZELDA OCRAINA OF TIME ZELDA TWILIGHT PRINCESS ZELDA MAJORAS MASK ZELDA A LINK TO THE PAST ZELDA FOUR SWORDS ADVENTURES ZELDA A LINK BETWEEN WORLDS
1. _Ocarina of Time_ 2. _Majora’s Mask_ 3. _Twilight Princess_ 4. _Skyward Sword_ 5. _Wind Waker_ and honestly, I could be convinced to put 2-4 in any order 🤷🏻♂️
You have to remember this. Majora's mask, when developed, was a rush job. This is why it reused previous graphics from Ocarina of time. But I think it was a very successful project despite it being rushed. Maybe the team just got lucky. Unlike a certain other pair of games that were also rushed. I'm looking at you, pokemon, and gamefreak.
Queen Gibdo felt kind of annoying for me because she kept flying away during the actual boss fight in the Lightning Temple. It makes it annoying to try and catch her when she won't stop moving around the room and the nests are only active in the corner. She felt like Armogohma from Twilight Princess but they overcorrected on the difficulty and simply made her annoying lol.
I'm kind of surprised by how positive the reception to this video is considering I felt like most of these were opinions I've never heard any Zelda fan say before, and kind of felt like a compilation of contrarian hot takes. I definitely thought I'd see more upset people in the comments. I don't mean that as an insult, more so just an observation that surprised me about the tone of the video, and about the response to it.
Really? I feel like most of what I think in regards to dungeons is pretty normal. Botw/Totk have the worst, TP/SS have the best. Maybe having Wind Waker so low is contrarian or something but everything else isn't.
@@RealHud I've just never heard anyone say MM has bad dungeon music and bosses (outside of Gyorg which I've never known anyone to like), and I've never heard anyone say WW has bad dungeon music, but great bosses. I usually hear people praise MM's dungeon music and bosses collectively, and like WW dungeon music, but never talk about WW's bosses. I also hear people like SS dungeons, but not really like the bosses outside of Koloktos.
Ive always argued that breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom are NOT 3d zeldas. They are their own genre separate from 2d and 3d zeldas. We have not gotten a new 3d zelda in 13 years and counting which irks me to no end
I loved temple of time it should been in ocarina. Fire temple 64 had great music and dark story with Gordon dying, gotta love the water temple with dark link. But the arbiter grounds are my favorite the beyblade top and boss was amazing
saying colgera is the best zelda dungeon boss is just so incorrect. Colgera is great, dgmw, but i can (and will) name 5 bosses that are better than colgera in most aspects (atmosphere, looks and mechanics (not music probably tho)). koloktos phantom ghanon oot Stallord goht twinrova i could keep going but my point is: although colgera is fun, has a great atmosphere and music, mechanically, when compared to most of the best bosses in the franchise, it is subpar. koloktos and stallord are the best bosses in the franchise btb and i dont even think its subjective at that stage
TWW was mainly rushed because the GameCube was hurting in sales and big titles, so both Mario Sunshine and TWW were pushed to come out sooner rather than later. TWW still got delayed a little, but in retrospect this was the era where Nintendo was trying to find a way to release more big titles quicker.
Also why I love twilight princess I would agree but only three dungeons are great and unique dungeons yes I know temple of time was cool for atmosphere but do you remember bringing that dumb statue back. Skyward sword was probably the best in all 3d dungeons in some cases but that comes down to only 3 dungeons as well. To completely discredit ocarina, majoras, even wind walker, and a link to the past is absurd. For skyward sword the big highlight for those great dungeons are the boss fights not the dungeons itself, for twilight princess the biggest part for those is what comes right after the dungeons, for wind waker kinda the same thing for majoras mask the dungeons were intricate in its layout yes dungeon 1 is simple but shouldn’t every 1st dungeon should be and you have to keep in track of your time to begin with, ocarina simple at its best, very good atmosphere that involves the world itself, great music, simple but fun bosses, get an item within the dungeon Lear how it is used just think to the forest temple a link to the past so I need to even say why the dungeons/bosses/music is great?!
Well while I agree with some, wind waker really deserves to be above at least skyward sword. No reason to have ordered it like that Edit and not saying wind waker should be higher as in number one. But skyward sword was mid, or below mid for me and a lot of others, and definitely not as charming and diverse as others
One thing i thing people miss about wind waker is consistency. A lot of the games have 2 or 3 miss dungeons. I feel wind waker, while not the highest of the highs also doesnt dip very low. Furthermore, it is very very consistent about requiring you to use lots of items even long after the dungeon you get it in, expecially compared to the other games in the series. Their one true failure is they arent hard. Which imo is there only major failure. Which i also think is on purpose. Its approachable for young kids compared to a lot of other entries.
Tears of the Kingdom sorely needed the whole "move parts of the dungeon" puzzle box vibe of BotW's Divine Beasts. TotK only had one real dungeon which was the lightning temple. To have only four (five?) dungeon attempts was kinda sad.
@@omegalilbchass8270 I can agree with that but imo the actions to enter divine beasts were way more fun than the beasts and bosses. I like how TotK at least each one builds up to pretty fun & boss fights. both games dungeons too easy tbh but its bc there's so much side content
Majoras masks dungeons somehow always feel just as mysterious and difficult as they were when i first played them, and the quests to get to them feel very much the same.
I think you sold the Bottom of the Well a little short considering that its boss is the most horrifying thing in Zelda history.

It goes criminally unnoticed, to the point where players whine about the dungeon items being "just" the bow and arrow upgrades.
2:28 there is no 'unintended' ways to solve these puzzles, just uncreative ones
Personally I'm glad Nintendo took this approach to dungeon design and hope they continue along this approach. The old way of having a specific item per dungeon is just waaaay too predictable.
Don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone talk so negatively about Majoras Mask before, what’s your beef with the game?
Woodfall temple song IS ABSOLUTE FIRE BRO wdym
aesthetically yes, Majoras Masks items are all arrows but the actual function of them are, the ability to shoot arrows, the ability the melt fire, the ability to create a platform in ANY BODY OF WATER IN THE WHOLE GAME (still one of the best in the series imo), and the ability to flip the entire dungeon on its head. Majoras Mask dungeon item’s definitely compare to the rest of the series.
Twilight Princess by far has the best dungeons
Twilight Princess would be my top pick, but Skyward Sword isn't a bad choice either. I wish I could replay just the dungeons of SS, because a lot of what you do in between dungeons feels like a drag to me.
I appreciate your insights but would like to consider that Majora's Mask might not even need to innovate that much on items since it completely delivers with the masks.
Man, you know the franchise is GOATed when even the worst dungeons are still pretty fun 💕💕💕
It failed in a lot of ways, the ‘dungeons’ were pretty bad but the open world aspect was amazing.
its not the best zelda game, its the second best game in the zelda franchise(i personally like totk more)
1- Ocarina Of Time
2- Twilight Princess
3- Tears Of The Kingdom
4- Majora's Mask
5- Skyward Sword
6- Wind Waker
7- Breath Of The Wild
tears top 3 is a nasty take
Tbh i think any take with ss near the top, and botw and totk at the bottom is a completely valid take. Its all opinion afterall... but this guy failed that... @@d3va383
In a world where the sandship is considered mediocre and the water temple (tears) is a masterpiece. Did u make this comment from a parallel universe?
I’m surprised to see totk ranked higher than botw. Totk’s dungeons were straight up awful compared to any other Zelda game I’ve played. I personally felt botw dungeons were more dungeon-esc than totk. Don’t even get me started on the water temple, that was extremely disappointing
totk's water temple existing automatically sends it straight to the bottom
I really do think people fail to appreciate Majora's Mask dungeons. Like really I can say I hate woodfall temple in the context of Majora's Mask dungeons. But in the context of zelda dungeons I think woodfall is better than most dungeons
Imo MM has some of the most well designed, complex but still not bullshit, dungeons in the series
Stone Tower Temple is my favourite by far! The fact you can rotate it upside down is top notch game design! :)
I totally get that, Tears of the Kingdom dungeons seem like they're trying to make everyone happy and it doesn't work.
Every divine beast looks identical, has no buildup and has the same boss.. how are totk's artistically worse in any way?
@@JakeYolk i already explained in the coment, read ir please
@@ricky.t.1658 "they try to look like classical dungeons" okay they still look better than botw's
@@Stonesands a bunch of the TP bosses had good spectacle too and their own boss themes.
Personal Ranking:
1. Twilight Princess (Outside of maybe Goron mines, nothing but bangers, and lots of them, but shoutout to all 4 mirror of twilight fragment dungeons)
2. Skyward Sword (Hands down most underrated with some of my favs in the series with sky keep, sand ship and ancient sisterns)
3. Ocarina of Time (all adult dungeons are fun except water)
4. Tears of the Kingdom (While water temple sucks, Lightning and fire temple are really fun, and the lead up and boss battle in wind are goated)
5. Majoras Mask (lake bed is really annoying and woodfall kinda boring. While I love snow head and stone tower, the time limit made me too stressed to make me enjoy the dungeon like others)
6. Wind Waker (honestly just plain forgettable and a bit bland, nothing stands out)
7. Breath of the Wild (no real explanation needed)
This is a list that I can get behind. Also I like the water temple in totk! (Even though the boss sucked)
Lakebed is Twilight Princess not Majora. Unless you meant Great Bay Temple.
@@Healer0079a Great bay, my bad
before watching the video I wrote down my ranking, exactly the same
Awesome
Twilight Princess. Full stop. There is not one bad dungeon in that entire game. All of them are at least good, with Lakebed Temple, Arbiter's Grounds, Palace of Twilight, City in the Sky, and Temple of Time all being pretty damn awesome.
My personal ranking, and the biggest positive for each game:
1. Ocarina of Time (atmosphere/music)
2. Skyward Sword (dungeon item utilization)
3. Twilight Princess (just all-around great)
4. Breath of the Wild (dungeon layout manipulation)
5. Majora's Mask (requires intricate navigation beyond what's in the other games)
6. Wind Waker (looked cool visually)
TBD: Tears of the Kingdom (still working on this one)
8:29 That voice crack is crazy
Nice to see someone give Skyward Sword some much due love! Here's my ranking:
07. Breath Of The Wild:
I agree with you completely. While I do think the puzzles themselves are good, the Divine Beasts are just repetitive and don't have strong enough identities. That's on top of how few there even are.
06. Tears Of The Kingdom
I could honestly just about interchange these first two entries. Tears gets a leg up solely based on the fact that they at least tried to craft "actual" Zelda type dungeons. In terms of execution however, they leave much to be desired. The Water Temple in particular is almost certainly going to go down in history as one of the most maligned dungeons in the series.
05. Majora's Mask:
Majora already takes a hit based on just how few of them exist, with only four proper, full length dungeons.
04. Wind Waker:
It's a close call between Wind Waker and Skyward Sword.
03. Skyward Sword:
Like with Wind Waker, Skyward Sword has mostly all good dungeons, but it also has a couple of absolute standouts that are among the very best in the series. Namely, Ancient Cistern and Sandship. I also think as an actual dungeon experience, The Sky Keep is much better than Ganon's Tower.
02. Ocarina Of Time:
So like with the previous two entries, Ocarina and Twilight Princess both have nine full length dungeons.
01. Twilight Princess:
When Palace Of Twilight is the weakest dungeon in your roster, you know you've got a fantastic line up! Again, Twilight Princess features some of the very best of the best, top ten Zelda dungeons of all time. Including Lakebed Temple, Arbiters Grounds, and City In The Sky! So it really just comes down to comparing the quality of each dungeon, Ocarina against Twilight...
01. The Deku Tree vs Forest Temple
Winner: Forest Temple (Twilight)
02. Dodongos Cavern vs Goron Mines
Winner: Goron Mines (Twilight)
03. Jabu Jabu's Belly vs Lakebed Temple
Winner: Lakebed Temple (Twilight)
04. Forest Temple vs Arbiters Grounds
Winner: TIE
05. Fire Temple vs Snowpeak Ruins
Winner: TIE
06. Water Temple vs Temple Of Time
Winner: Water Temple (Ocarina)
07. Shadow Temple vs City In The Sky
Winner: TIE
08. Spirit Temple vs Palace Of Twilight
Winner: Spirit Temple (Ocarina)
09. Inside Ganon's Castle vs Hyrule Castle
Winner: Hyrule Castle (Twilight)
So there ya have it. 4 to 2. Twilight Princess edges out Ocarina Of Time and stands tall as my personal pick for Zelda game with the best dungeon quality overall!
Hot take the water dungeon in oot was one of the best dungeons and was not that hard
Fr, i just completed it for the first time recently and really enjoyed it.
Great list and I surprisingly agreed with almost everything except a few Majora's Mask related takes :D
This is a bit of a hot take apparently but i think Skyward Sword’s dungeons are largely forgettable outside of the Cistern and Sandship. Also Snowhead is lit.
Skyward sword overall has the best dungeons. Majora's mask has the single best dungeon
Easy: not The Windwaker.
Bro, saying Majora's bosses are the worst is crazy.
They're not very good tho... They're by far the weakest part of the dungeons. Goat was fun tho
I didn’t even mention the imprisoned which we all know how good it is…
Twilight Princess has the best dungeons in any Zelda game- period.
Skyward sword> twilight only if it has this dark eerie touch like tp has. This continuous darkness vibes makes the game for me absolutely perfect+ the music and boss fights/ items are great
Didnt know you had a channel! Very solid video if i do say
Ok, without even watching, I can tell you it’s twilight princess.
Edit: fuck.
Twilight princess
My order for dungeons:
1. Skyward Sword
2. Twilight Princess
3. Ocarina of Time
4. Majora's Mask
5. Wind Waker
6. Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom
I put BotW and TotK together because they are both bad. BotW is worse with theming but at least could mess with the Divine Beast to change the layout. TotK has better theming but it's arguably easier to solve the dungeon, thus making it less puzzle-y.
you just repeated his order pretty much but I feel u XD
@@MuchjieMan56 Yeah I typed it out before watching the video and then found out we had the same order lol
How is ocarina of times dungeons more complicated than majoras mask???
I feel like Majora's Mask having only 4 dungeons let them really flesh out how they feel and play. Stone Tower remains my favorite Zelda dungeon, I think it has a fun gimmick and the aesthetic is top tier.
The theme song of STT adds to the atmosphere as well!
Twilight Princess
Really good vid! Thanks for the enjoyment :) I love the mid boss music fr skyward sword
Do you really think Forest Temple is simple compared to the likes of Fire Temple or Shadow Temple, which are completely linear and straight-forward?
BRO WAS HATIN ON MM SO HARD, bro woodfall is the first dungeon, IT HAS TO BE SIMPLE
And even then I'd argue it's still tougher than most first dungeons in the series.
@@Healer0079a i guess, but MM was made with the intention that the players had already played OOT
Twilight Princess has the best dungeons and it's a large part of why it's my favorite Zelda game.
I have never heard Woodfall Temple’s dungeon theme described as underwhelming/bad.
That’s one of the best Dungeon Themes ever
Very Good Video @Hud!!! I Still Haven't Played Twilight Princess Or Wind Waker Or Skyward Sword Yet, But Out Of Those Three, I Want To Play Twilight Princess First! Ocarina Of Time's Bosses Were Very Memorable Too! 😉👍
I would definitely put Skyward Sword in the "better dungeons" category for 3d Zeldas, but the annoying pre-dungeons messed with the pacing of the game. It was a slog instead of an good experience. Just get me to the dungeon already.
Twilight Princess. I haven’t watched the video yet.
Skyward Sword’s dungeons are superior, best in the series.
Personal I would put Skyward Sword between Majoras Mask and Ocarina of time.
With the rest of the list I fully agree
Cool video! Don't think I agree with the exact order, but I agree with your top 3 having the best dungeons.

Too bad the company didn’t make him a clown in their TCG. Well deserved.

All I'm going to say is amen brother
Oot, mm, links awakening, and link to the past.
The fact he shit on Queen Gibdo is honestly surprising to me
Queen Gibdo felt kind of annoying for me because she kept flying away during the actual boss fight in the Lightning Temple. It makes it annoying to try and catch her when she won't stop moving around the room and the nests are only active in the corner.
She felt like Armogohma from Twilight Princess but they overcorrected on the difficulty and simply made her annoying lol.
@darthbluecat0478 Queen Gibdo was super annoying. More irritating than challenging.
The Wind Temple is a WAY more complex and interesting dungeon than the Earth Temple…
Ive always argued that breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom are NOT 3d zeldas. They are their own genre separate from 2d and 3d zeldas. We have not gotten a new 3d zelda in 13 years and counting which irks me to no end
Do you know what 3D means?
It’s a mainline 3 dimensional Zelda game, shut up kid
why did you not talk about the OOT dungeon bosses at all?
I loved temple of time it should been in ocarina. Fire temple 64 had great music and dark story with Gordon dying, gotta love the water temple with dark link. But the arbiter grounds are my favorite the beyblade top and boss was amazing
Tp is the best one dungeonwise
saying colgera is the best zelda dungeon boss is just so incorrect. Colgera is great, dgmw, but i can (and will) name 5 bosses that are better than colgera in most aspects (atmosphere, looks and mechanics (not music probably tho)).
koloktos
phantom ghanon oot
Stallord
goht
twinrova
i could keep going but my point is: although colgera is fun, has a great atmosphere and music, mechanically, when compared to most of the best bosses in the franchise, it is subpar. koloktos and stallord are the best bosses in the franchise btb and i dont even think its subjective at that stage
stone tower will always be the greatest
OoT. Water Temple is just a noob filter.
what about spirit tracks and hourglass?
I feel disappointed and a little pissed every time I relive the TOTK dungeons they’re so spammy and weak
Saying colgera was one of the best fights is INSANE glaze. Was the music amazing? Absolutely. The fight itself, though? It was mediocre
this list is pretty based
Definitely not Tears
True
Idk if anything will top the Spirit Temple for me tbh
skyward sword, no debate
13:18 I've never actually heard about this before. was there a particular reason WW was rushed?
TWW was mainly rushed because the GameCube was hurting in sales and big titles, so both Mario Sunshine and TWW were pushed to come out sooner rather than later. TWW still got delayed a little, but in retrospect this was the era where Nintendo was trying to find a way to release more big titles quicker.
It was also rushed as they originally were going to just do Ocarina 2 but changed course part way through.
I fully agreed until you put ss as number one. With the horrible controls ruined the joy in the dungeons.
Controls arent even bad, on switch at least
It’s absolutely Skyward Sword.. those puzzles were just fun.
Bro just hates majoras mask I would argue as we only got four dungeons four of those are some of the best and the bosses included
Now can you do 2d zelda games instead pleaaaaaaaaaaase
I love the Zelda community and how we band together in agreement that BotW dungeons are absolutely pathetic. Make dungeons great again!
Ocarina of time.
my type of video
Breath of the wild lol
Well while I agree with some, wind waker really deserves to be above at least skyward sword. No reason to have ordered it like that
Edit and not saying wind waker should be higher as in number one.
I agree with you but I feel like the tears bosses do make a strong case for it having better dungeons
@@MuchjieMan56 A good boss doesnt make a good dungeon imo. A lot of people say sandship is the best zelda dungeon but people also say the boss sucks.
@@omegalilbchass8270 I can agree with that but imo the actions to enter divine beasts were way more fun than the beasts and bosses. I like how TotK at least each one builds up to pretty fun & boss fights. both games dungeons too easy tbh but its bc there's so much side content
