The USS Hornet,CV 8 was discovered in early February and video taped in its resting place 3 1/2 miles deep in the South Pacific, where is was sunk in battle in October,1942
I served on The USS TICONDEROGA CVS 14 71 to 75 I still fold my clothes the way we taught in boot camp San Diego. Talking about lockers I had two in our berthing space and another in the photo lab. PH2 T LARKIN
@@andrewtaylor940, The Hornet is almost completely open, whereas the Intrepid is very limited. I was on the Intrepid in December. Have been on the Hornet many times
Also, the most authentically restored Essex class ship. We try our hardest to keep her how she was. A lot of other museum ships they “upgrade” things or cut big holes through the deck or bulkhead to make it easier for visitors to get around. The Hornet is how she was. And hopefully she will stay that way.
Also the only Essex class carrier still floating. The others are sitting in mud. The intrepid may be floating now, the navy spent 3 million to dredge around her so she could be put in dry Dock. She was completely stuck.
Damn green linoleum floors. Whoever got THAT contract became wealthy. It was EVERYWHERE in military installations. Subs to hospitals. Same green asbestos Linoleum

Good to see the Hornet still afloat. Remember seeing her at Bremerton just off the freeway there back when I was younger.

the brass 5" round is for testing hoist, fuze setter rammer etc
So as not to confuse people the ship is located at Pier 3, former NAS Alameda.
Certainly a well kept museum ship
My dad served on her 1944-1946 . Before that he was on the Essex. F6F Hellcat pilot.
Nice. The Hellcat is a hell of a plane. My favorite plane of all time.

I hope you can do some videos on this TH-cam channel
I hope you still make videos
Great video thank you 😊
she is in much better material condition then the Intrepid
Intrepid deals with much harsher seasons. Hornet doesn't get quite the winters that New York Harbor gets.

The Lexington in Corpus Christi, Texas is in excellent shape. Was the last Essex class to be retired in the 90s.
