Cheers, Frank. Really enjoyed that. Amazing how little Gourock (and Hugh Keevens' voice) have changed. I was -4 in '87 but still remember The Bay Hotel being demolished.
My dad arrived in Gourock ,Scotland from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada aboard the SS Pasteur on the morning of November 4, 1940 as a member of the Calgary Highlanders regiment.
Where are all the parked cars on Albert and Ashton Road?!?! Wow, almost two full lanes, what a luxury. Not now! But roadworks, there's a surprise... What a great video, up Barrhill Road too, and what a view!
Amazing how little the place has changed... Apart from the new lower kempock layout and the removal of the Bay Hotel and the old post office building, it looks very much the same today. I was 10 when this was filmed.
Just passed my test in 1987, I don’t remember how quiet the roads were. Mostly British built cars then - Ford and BL, or Austin Rover or whatever they were calling themselves at the time.
Thanks for sharing. I was 17 when you filmed this and have many memories of the area from this time. You should share this on the GOUROCK Facebook group they would enjoy it
From the football fixtures on the radio, this was actually 13th December 1986. Hearts bear Hamilton Accies 7-0 that day, in one of the matches being previewed.
“Janeys” at The Bay. Where we used to get served drink at 15/16 years old and thought we had made it in life but spewed all weekend after and got grounded for a month for going home drunk after a half glass of vodka and coke and a mouthful of becks 😂😂

@@frankgosselin6075 I remember him well. He was in my young brothers class. They were good friends if I remember rightly. You have a daughter too if I remember rightly? Which I often don’t.😂 I don’t want to mention her full name but started with Ch right? Your son must be around 43ish and daughter 45ish? I remember cuz my brother was friends with Frankie and I was a year above.
Yes, that is correct. My son lives in Ohio and my daughter lives in Oregon. You can see more of my videos at rumble.com using my name in the search. I will let Frankie know about your brother.@@BeneathTheGold

Wife and I just finished sausage rolls and chips from Scottish Gourmet while reminiscing this drive from the video. Regular visitors to Saltcoats.
Great upload mate; we moved to Gourock when I was 10 and I still miss the arcade that was on Kempock street!

My old stomping grounds, I will definitely be returning sometime
The front of Gourock hasn’t really changed that much. Most of the buildings are still there today.
