Now this is a perfect type of episode for this Pod! Great Job Noah and Erik! Start getting economists from around the world on and talk about their own countries, thatd be awesome!

I wonder if the guest is an economist? I noticed the episode description called him a “blogger”.

@@daniel_so_you_know good point, didn't even notice that but still that'd be cool to have economic reviews of a variety of different countries with people/bloggers on the geound

Culturally I think the biggest issue that Argentina has is that it has an exceptionalist view of itself. It sees itself as a european country, a cut above the latins nearby. And indeed, in the 50s there was reason to think this way, but over the last 70 years its really ceased to be true. What they need to do is adopt sobert, straightforward economic policies, and ensure stability. Nothing can be achieved without this.

Great episode as always! However, being an Argentinian myself, I must say that the guest was not a good choice. While Sebastian may represent the average street opinion, it's evident that he lacks a deep understanding of economics, so he couldn't provide accurate answers to most of Noah's questions. Someone like Ivan Werning would have been a perfect fit.

Another great episode, keep em coming!
Just one small nit - the chapers are a bit off. For example the NetSuite ad ends at the 31:00 mark but the corresponding chapter goes for much longer. This was an issue with previous episodes too.

A good point Sebastián brings up that may confuse foreigners is that the welfare state is geared not toward the poor but to the politically connected middle class in government patronage jobs. This is insidious because the poor often belong to racial minorities that are easy to scapegoat, promoting a toxic populism that obscures the real causes of overspending and leads to shaky coalitions. Achieving the development state Noah advocates for would require Latin American countries to do civil service reform. It would be nice if you were to explore this in a following episode.

As a regular listener of the pod and an Argentinian myself, I feel deeply disappointed with this episode. Sebastián was courteous in his corrections but that didn't stopped Noah's rambling describing our situation in many ways that are simply factually incorrect. At one point he even said "I read about it an hour ago and then stopped as I didn't found very interesting". What's the point of making an entire episode about a country you know very little about compared to your guest and end up spending 80% of the time talking interrupting him and not taking most of his points?

    The listeners do want details.
I kept this pod in the backlog because you guys alway do surface level stuff and everybody knows most of surface level things.
To keep this pod relevant. The details matter.

Does Noah just constantly BS his way through every conversation? Glad he’s finally called out

He's very good at sounding like he knows what he's talking about. Same conversational style as Curtis Yarvin.

This is what eventually happens with all democracies, people figure out and tgink they can vote for people to give them more in benefits than they will pay in forever so they avoid taxes and do everything possible to get welfare. This is happening in America right now its just we are much much eicher and have the worlds reserve currency so we can do it for much much longer. Eventually the debt will be monitized away and normal Americans will be in a world of hurt but for now we kick the can down the road.
