    Since retiring we are traveling quite a bit so what has really helped me is a packing list. My husband also has a house list for a shut down of water in the winter, turn the furnace down etc.

    Great tips. I agree about the over packing... I do it and at the end of the trip realize that there were 3 outfits i never bothered with. Very good points.

    We've been the Magic for a Mediterranean cruise, the Dream for the Caribbean, and 2 Viking River cruises (part 1 and part 2 of the Danube). We've found that each exciting cruise is unique. We were surprised to see how many people on Disney cruises used their DVC points on the Magic (yeah, we know it's not the best use of points) and one couple said that's only what they use their points for. I can't understand why anyone would want to give you the "thumbs down" on this video. Your vlogs are never offensive, always helpful, and just plain/plane fun to watch.

    You are right about not wanting the unexpected bill at the end of the cruise after everything else is “paid for”! Knowing what isn’t covered and or checking your bill every few days will save that shock at the end!

    Have my first cruise coming up and I’m thrilled that you did this video. They’re all such good tips, but the “be able to handle all of your luggage by yourself is crucial” tip is perfect for me. I found out the hard way in my travels in Europe that keeping your stuff close to you is imperative...lesson learned.

    And make sure that you actually have the bag with the passports in it. My SIL, her family and my in-laws were all going to the Galapagos. As they were loading up she told her son to grab her carry on bag. He did not hear her and she did not realize that he did not hear her. Needless to say when they made it to the airport and realized NO ONE had their passports and the airport was almost an hour away it was not good. Someone drove home and grabbed the bag, while I SIL rebooked the flight that they were going to miss. That was a lesson learned even for my seasoned traveling family.

    Your top five brings back lots of Disney cruise memories. By day 4, the big, lavish dinners begin to lose their luster for me. If we have great servers, it’s about interacting with them rather than trying snails or having another big meal. I drink diet, caffeine free soda, which they only SELL by the can on the ship, it’s not at the beverage station on the pool deck. Have to bring my own. Biggest grrr: burning through the free tiny WiFi package with app updates that happened automatically. Now I turn them off before I leave. As soon as I get my cruise document booklet, I put my passport in the pocket inside the cover. Helped me out many times. Time to countdown to your November cruise...let the repacking begin!

    • @JoyfulLivingwithJenLefforge

      Yeah the WiFi guy and I basically became best friends during my week on the ship. 🤣🤣🤣

    I just got back from a 4 night DCL trip and I really want to remember/analyze what I didn't take out of my suitcase and try to remember not to bring it again for this kind of vacation. On a cruise there are usually so many activities going on that we didn't need any of our usual entertainment items (i.e. ipads for movies, handheld gaming devices for the kids, etc.) and it just made our luggage heavier. I also could have eliminated at least 2 outfits for each person and been fine, laundry on board is pretty quick and easy. I am a terrible overpacker and I want to be better. I should probably just buy a smaller suitcase and work with that instead. Thanks for the videos Jen, they are so helpful!

    • @JoyfulLivingwithJenLefforge
      @JoyfulLivingwithJenLefforge  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hope you guys had a great cruise! Yes it helps to be more disciplined if you start worth a smaller suitcase to begin with. That’s my hope for this next trip!

    All good tips for cruisers. You will love cruising on a smaller ship. You will make many more friends because you see and interact with the same people every day. We found the Silversea cruise that we did (300 guests) was one of the most enjoyable of the 24 cruises that we have been on mostly for that reason. We leave for our next cruise on November 15th, not on a small ship this time though. This ship is the largest in the world! We will see how it goes. Looking forward to videos on your Viking cruise!

    PREACH managing your own luggage. That’s a good travel rule in general. If you’re you know you’ll need two bags, I recommend using a duffle for the soft clothing and your suitcase for the rest. Set the duffle on your suitcase and secure with the straps over the handle. Now you can manage all you luggage with one hand and have another arm free.

    • @JoyfulLivingwithJenLefforge
      @JoyfulLivingwithJenLefforge  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Seriously for safety reasons and just plain old fashioned convenience it’s so important! Nobody wants to start or end their vacation with a messed up shoulder or back because of their luggage!

    Thanks for another fun, informative video! Great tips! I really like this format - I watched another youtubers vlog that had a similar format and I think it's really a good fit for a channel like this. I enjoy the informative narration, with pics/video from the cruise interspersed. The editing was seamless on this one! Once again your advice transcends...I don't have to eat all the things!!! Gotta remember that one here! 😂 Can't wait to see some vlogs with your momma! I hope you'll be able to get some historical insight from her in terms of how different travel is for her now vs back in the day. I so agree about the luggage. I packed two large and on small one for me and my daughter. For me to handle those two large bags was well, almost more than I can handle. Next time, I vowed to NOT PACK any food to lighten the loads. I tried to pack snacks, a couple bottled waters, a skillet to cook breakfasts. I have to face the fact I can't be dragging all that around, and just buy the food when I get there. It's just not worth it.

    I recently went to NYC for a week. I always carry my Passport as a secondary ID so I remembered it, but forgot the tickets to the two B’way shows I was seeing 🤦‍♀️. Luckily I realized during my layover in CHI and had the contact info in my emails on my phone, so I could call to request replacements. Yes, you don't have to eat everything, but why waste the chance to sample everything. The food items are already prepared so don't feel guilty that you are wasting anything. Other than on a cruise ship, you go broke ordering all these food just to try out in a 5-star restaurant. Hope to hear your review on your Viking cruise. Our Viking cruise got canceled because Star (or Sea?) got into trouble along the coast in Norway in March (or April?) this year. Can't wait to go on the Star on Jan 3 for the Iberian Explore.

      Thankfully I don’t get seasick but a lot of those on the ship who suffer from it were wearing a patch that is supposed to work wonders! And for the claustrophobia I prefer a veranda if I can get one - having access to fresh air goes a long way and is often worth the extra expense if you’re worried about that.🥰

    Jen, what other destinations (completely different) would you like to do? My parents want to do a river cruise down the Nile or the Rhein and for the US they want to do Alaska. I would sign up for any of those...or any cruise truthfully

      Alaska is for sure on my list and a Mediterranean cruise sounds lovely! Lots in that part of the world I haven’t seen!

    $600? How much were those coffees? How many coffees did you have a day? Wait you did say a couple of other little things. Great tips. I hope I can use these tips some day.

    I'm small - I don't eat a ton - I might fit in your suitcase - and I'm fun. #bringme. :)

    The last tip is not accurate. You can go on closed loop cruises without a passport.

      Disney cruise line clearly stated they would not let us on the boat without a passport or birth certificate. I would have had neither.

      @@JoyfulLivingwithJenLefforgeYep, most cruises that are closed loop require a birth certificate only. I must have been distracted when I watched the video, I missed when you mentioned a birth certificate. I thought I heard you say they wouldn't let you on without a passport, full stop.

      I didn’t mention the birth certificate.

    And if your ship has a casino you don’t have to go play every night .....😂

      Oh my word I can really have a problem when there’s gambling.....haven’t been on a ship with it yet and that’s most likely a very good thing!🤣🤣🤣🥰

      Joyful Living with Jen Lefforge - oh my goodness *these* tips. 🤣 Also, a video idea for you: How to decide on the right cruise length. Since you’ve cruised a few times you could talk about what the right length is and how to decide. As someone who has never cruised before it’s hard to decide how long I should go for some are so short but others are 10 days! What are the pros and cons of each?
