Ordinary people just like you and I. Just living their lives. Thanks another great effort. I was a tech in a TV studio so I know what it takes to put this together. I have and can use Adobe Premier but I am far too lazy as I know what it takes. Spend most of my spare time fixing antique clocks. Cheers from me. John

Hi John, there are times when I would liked to have had lessons in using my cameras and software, I seem to learn most things the hard way. In my day job I use CAD/CAM a lot, yet I have never been taught to use any of it, I just sit down with the instruction manual and persevere until I get the desired result.
GoPro cameras can be very good, especially the latest versions, but to get the best results using pinnacle Studio the video has to be converted into an .avi format, unfortunately that is not in the instructions. Another frustration is that the result played on my TV direct from my hard drive is far better than the video appears on TH-cam.
I have a very old long case clock, it is beautiful to look at, but it is the inside workings that fascinate me, they are not fancy, they were made in the days before machinery was readily available, they are mostly cut out by hand and finished with a file, the weights are just lumps of metal, not decorative. The case was made in Wales and I believe the workings were made in the Birmingham area, the clock dates from around 1800, I can only marvel at what those old craftsmen achieved, the clock keeps near perfect time today, although I do have to get it cleaned and maintained every 5 to 10 years, it is getting harder to find people with the necessary skills these days. Best wishes.Tim.

@@Timsvideochannel1 I have a longcase clock from the south of France made in the late 1800's. It was imported and as soon as I saw it I bought it. The clockmaker used to wander around with a frame with the movement on. When it sold he would get the local coffin maker to make the case. It's about 7 foot tall and has a huge lyre pendulum. The bell in it was used to wake the household in the farm to get up for milking etc. You can hear it half a mile away so it is resting at the moment. Cheers I am off to wales now. John.

@@johnmchardy1229 I have seen a French clock similar to the one you describe in a local antique shop. I didn't know they were used to wake the household up. I don't use the hour chimes on my clock, it's not really what you want to hear at midnight, besides it scares the hell out of my cat. Early clock making in both the UK a Germany was a real local home grown industry.

@@Timsvideochannel1 If you look at the clock I have it has 2 winding positions. One for the time which I use and one for the alarm bell. You set the alarm by turning a dial at the centre of the face to the time say 4 in the morning to get up to do the milking. The old French farm houses were rambling affairs so it had to be loud. It is not a chiming clock at all. It has 2 large lumps for weights and a hand made mechanism as well.
I did a course on Final Cut pro once, my brain was misbehaving and I definitely used up my internal swearing allowance. Went to Slovakia today as well. Probably win a prize for the country with the most unpronounceable place names. Dropping the punters off and reversing back over the viaduct was a hoot I had a good chuckle at that. The punters loved it as they got great picies and videos. Lovely country and simple folk. John.

@@johnmchardy1229 I've had the pleasure of staying on one of those old french farms with a family when I was still at school, I went to France on exchange trips, they were good fun.
Learning new software can be frustrating until things start to fall into place.
I love the East European rail-tours, Health and Safety is not allowed to ruin the fun. Its great to visit places tourists don't go and meet the locals, they are always welcoming, if a little confused at times, I don't think they understand why a bunch of people from another country hire an old train for a couple of weeks to traverse as many little used branch lines as possible.

    Tim,
good job again. I am happily surprised about local freight train at Sása Pliešovce station. About repainted bridges and some trackside objects, too. The next year I guess a local election's year, and now I realized these things, because some local politicians and inhabitians of the nearest villages by the line made a pressure to restore at least the weekend trains to Dudince Spa, or on regular workdays morning and evening trains release the peak hours traffic jam on the state road from Zvolen to Šahy. Nice video.
(edited, because it was confusing): If I deducted well from the cabs conversation, Your journey will continue maybe at least to Brezno... Let me surprise that it is true, because the line in the Slovak Paradise is beautiful...

Hello Jan, I'm pleased you enjoyed it. Whilst travelling over branch and secondary railways around Slovakia we saw a number of local freight trains loaded with logs. If local elections result in the return of passenger trains to some of lines, that must be a good thing. I wish I understood the language, it would be nice to know what was being said.

      Tim,
as first sorry for a confusing first comment, I just edited, there are 2 thoughts, one about line to Zvolen, second about my guess that You will spend night in Brezno.
The election I guess not enough to restore the trains. Maybe there is required another open acces competition as on the line no.131 Bratislava - Komárno, which RegioJet won. The passenger numbers were tripled since beginning until now, on the by ZSSK forgotten and abandoned line.
I captured something about Brezno at evening, and I deducted from it: in Zvolen loco switch around the train to continue journey via Banská Bystrica, Brezno to Slovak Paradise. The line from Červená Skala to Margecany is very nice.

Hello, Tim! Thanks for filming again, it's a celebration to me of 'virtual moving' tour by unknown me country. :-) This race are vey interesting including the way landscapes change when moving from south to north... For Bulgaria it's characteristically too. Maybe for many countries it's too. A castle near Zvolen (@41:15+ at right) is interesting. By the way, I do not know a single traditionally European castle in Bulgaria (includes architecture of Belogradchik Fortress, it's differently too.), especial with South Bulgaria: it's case of architectural heritage, who is very much different here, than in more northern and southern Europe, and with Northern Bulgaria too.
P.S. Maybe just one Evksinograd Residence is alike many traditional European castles... (But Baba Vida is not Bulgarian architecture, and its typical Austrian architecture...)
P.P.S. For compare Slovenia and Bulgaria castles architectures heritage please see it traveltipy.com/castles-in-slovenia/ and it visitmybulgaria.com/10-beautiful-castles-bulgaria/ Excuse me for this small offtopic, dear Tim! :-)

I did see castle like structures when touring Bulgaria, but I don't remember where. I used Google to find some answers - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_castles_in_Bulgaria - One hotel we stayed in looked over a castle, but without going back through my old videos I couldn't say which one although it might have been Tsarevets. The castle on the hill at Zvolen looked very impressive although there wasn't time to visit it. There are beautiful castles all over Europe, some built to guard strategic positions, others just a show of wealth and power. I see from the links that many surviving castles are now hotels, the same in Scotland. Our train is now climbing towards the Low Tatra Mountains, both the scenery and architecture become more interesting as our tour progresses. This is still only day 2 of 12 - there is a lot more to see.

Sure, the 'Tsarevets' castle in 'Veliko Tarnovo' is greatest of others, but it are whole fortified area! This place for 'ancient' (just before time of Middle Ages) capital of Bulgarian kingdom. Later, after my breakfast, i can find an articles about, if you have interest to it. /I have doubt in good quality an articlea in Wiki about this matter.../ P.S. I.e. Veliko Tarnovo is ancient 'state city-castle', but not an 'individual feudal' castle! :-)

    • @chucksandos8939
      @chucksandos8939 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Of course, typical Western Europian castle is heritage of M.A. time ad such feudal possessions. But 'ancient' history of Bulgaria, is just near Danube river, is history such strategic positions, defence it and armed by 'castles' alike 'Tsarevets'. It's especial 'history and geograph'! :-)
I'm glad that your RW travel now are just 2 of 12 parts -- Hooray! ;-)
P.S. A little information: 'Prehistory and antiquity: Veliko Tarnovo, originally Tarnovgrad (Търновград), grew quickly to become the strongest Bulgarian fortification of the Middle Ages between the 12th and 14th centuries and the most important political, economic, cultural and religious centre of the empire'; 'Architecture: In Veliko Tornovo you can see fragments and foundations that are part of the architecture of the Second Bulgarian State. In the old part of the city and Asenova Mahala there can be seen Churches and houses that were dated through the Ottoman rule. In the whole old part, houses from the Renaissance era were built. Characteristic of them are the ornate elements' -- see please: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veliko_Tarnovo

    • @chucksandos8939
      @chucksandos8939 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Additional info. About V.Tarnovo - ancient historical environment, -- see please 'Second Bulgarian Empire': en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Bulgarian_Empire Small cite: 'Military: Bulgaria maintained extensive lines of fortresses to protect the country, with the capital Tarnovo in the centre. To the north were lines along both banks of the Danube river. To the south were three lines; the first along the Balkan mountains, the second along Vitosha, northern Rhodope mountains and Sakar mountain, the third along the valley of the river Arda. To the west, a line ran along the valley of the river South Morava'. And here: 'Architecture: Fortresses were built on hills and plateaus-the Byzantine historian Niketas Choniates said the Bulgarian castles in the Balkan Mountains were situated "at heights above the clouds"...'
      And about 'Tsarevets fortress': en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsarevets_(fortress)
Such is difficult 'ancient' history of Bulgaria! And this is before conquering it by Ottomans imperia in 14th century!.. 🤗

I phoned the manufacturer to buy a kit of parts to rebuild the head, they didn't have one part in stock. A few hours on the internet and I was able to buy all the bearings and drive belts I needed, the machine was very worn. I could not buy the various nylon headed split sleeves used between the moving pulleys and shafts of the vari-drive, fortunately I was able to obtain the nylon to make them myself. I took all the shafts and pulleys out to re-machine the various key ways true, then made stepped keys to fit. It all took a long time, but the satisfaction that comes from turning the machine on when it is re-assembled and sounding better than new is a great feeling. Today's young don't have the skills required to a job like this, they don't go into engineering these days. Good second hand machines are rare, most go to India where they are re-built and given a second life. Britain is full of unemployed university graduates with huge debts, degrees the arts, politics, media studies and other useless subjects, when what is really needed is engineers, plumbers, bricklayers, carpenters, and all the tradesmen required to fix our homes, cars and keep industry going.
Still our politician endeavour to send 70% of our young to university to satisfy the 10% of jobs that actually require a degree. The young start their working life 10 years later than I did with a large debt burden.
Old clocks will always require skilled men to repair them, just as old cars and locomotives will. Modern cars get scrapped because the engine management computer is no longer available, I wonder if today's cars will be repairable in 100 years time? Are these just British problems or are they being repeated in developed country's around the world?

Hi Fred, It's odd to see so few people, most of the time we were passing through heavily wooded hillsides or open farmland. The farms grew plenty of crops, at the expense of livestock. Throughout Slovakia I noticed the farming methods were modern, using some of the latest machinery. I did see one or two deer and quite a few birds. At times the lack of people was almost eerie, yet the landscape looked generally well cared for.

Sadly, some of these railway employees are there because ad-hoc scheduled train on the line, which is nearly abandoned. Only train I saw there was a local freight at Sása-Pliešovce and some waggons on the sidings. Young people moved their householdings to cities, or numberous have during the regular workdays job out there in the cities. I know some coworkers from Krupina and from the Hont (Slovak region). Our agriculture was ruined after the Iron curtain fall, now we are under the Bruxelles regulations, and our "proud people" better spend their money at foreign megastore chains than support local farmers. And at least our goverment robbery on EU funds in the name of farming...

Hi Jan, I read your comment to Fred, it reminded me of when the UK joined the, as it was then EEC (European Economic Community). I lived in a village surround by apple orchards, the farmer when bust because he couldn't compete with the subsidised apples from France. British farming has to compete against subsidised food from many parts of the EU, to make it worse, it is often British money that pays the subsidies to these farmers. Nowhere else in the world would you be asked to pay a subsidy to your competitor to put you out of business.

      Tim,
yes, the same thing. In the city where I was born there were cannery, meat packing plant, diary processor, produce (apple, tomato...), state owned car and truck repair shops, lights, refrigerators, mouldings, water pumps, wood processing, textile factories, agriculture researching and tool researching and factory. Near 50.000 inhabitans. Nowadays 39.900 and dropping. 90% of industry does not exist anymore...

Britain may have a new future outside the EU, if our politicians can be made to respect the referendum result, they still can't believe the people voted to leave. It will be a painful exit, Germany, France and Belgium are angry, they will do whatever they can to make life difficult, but once Britain starts to find its way in the world again, I think the future will be bright, no longer will the EU be able to force Britain to buy trains from Germany, Spain and Italy with loans guaranteed by the British taxpayer. Britain will be able to say, "if you want to sell your trains here, they must have a least 60% British content. EU rules on railway privatisation killed our world renowned train building industry overnight, that is difficult to forgive.

Ja, die Qualität des Videos, das ich hochgeladen habe, war viel besser, als der TH-cam-Player zeigt.

Gregor Wenger: Nothing wrong with the picture quality at all! It's just that you're viewing via the TH-cam platform which tends to make videos appear of poorer quality than they actually are.

No. I allways check to return to the "720p" mode when Yutube steps down because of bad internet connection.

Then that's still the system's fault, combined with your internet server there in Germany, Austria or Switzerland, whichever country you're in. If you had the opportunity to view Tim's video BEFORE he uploaded, zum beispiel, off his own computer, you'd have seen a much better "Bild-Qualität". Seine Bild-Qualität werde nicht so schlechte aussehen.
