    I remembered when you filmed Fin, thats how I called him, I hope he is alive, the fact that this animals have to deal with all sort of mishaps, natural or human, and yet a big percenteage recovers its testament to its amazing survival skills, amazing animals if you ask me, I suggest the name Blade, thanks for your invaluable work Carlos.

      There is a humpback whale named Bladerunner which had horrific injuries caused by a boat propellor in Sydney in 2001, but it has recovered well with incredible scars. You can find photos on the Internet if you are interested.

      You can just tell that most of the injuries shown here are from careless boat strikes. They are always most usually flush to the top of the water and clean strikes instead of mauled bite marks from territorial behaviour. Great to hear you are enjoying these videos and learning about one of the most feared apex predators of other marine life in the ocean!😊

    Other animal species sometimes shift their activities when they are ill or wounded, in order to avoid conflicts with conspecifics. Foxes with mange are mostly seen during the day, when they are less likely to run into other foxes. Due to last summer's draught, European badgers were deprived of their main food source, earthworms. On several instances i saw notably skinny badgers fouraging (or trying to fourage) in mid-day, which is not something I ever saw a healthy badger do. And several years ago, an orphaned half-year old brown bear miraculously survived on his own by shifting his activity patterns to mid-day and open fields (even when bears are active during the daytime here in Slovenia, they tend to remain out of sight in the cover of the forest). After a few months, he was seen less and less often, presumably shifting back to a more "average" routine when he was a bit bigger, stronger and faster. I wonder, when you notice that the injured shark spends more time near human activity, could it be doing something similar, in order to avoid other, larger sharks?

    I LOVE your content Carlos. I have been fascinated with estuarine, marine and pelagic species since I was a young child. I benefitted so much from uncles and other close adults who were avid watermen and ocean fishermen who taught me to love the ocean. I am 65 now and I can state for a fact, based on personal observation, that our waters in the US and Caribbean and elsewhere in the Pacific are *significantly* less healthy than they were when I was in my teens and 20s. The oceans are incredibly special and precious and SO many people do not understand or realize that the health of our oceans and the myriad of species that live within are so closely related to the health and wellbeing of us humans on land. Please continue your groundbreaking research and let as many people as you can know how important these majestic creatures are. I thank you for what you do and appreciate it so much. The scars on these sharks resulting from human interaction and boat / prop strikes breaks my heart. Bravo to you my friend !

    Great video. I have often heard of the legendary healing capabilities of the shark. The evidence is pretty amazing. I am horrified by what they have to go through from us though. Infuriating. The ocean is their home and life is tough enough as it is. Do you think any injuries could be from orcas or are they unlikely to escape when the pack attack? I was also very surprised by the collision footage. That shark looked like it had no clue that inflatable was coming. I had thought that the sounds/vibrations would alert it. Maybe it was daydreaming lol.
    And who the hell goes boating in any critter nursery? Or are these areas generally not known? We had some prick here kill a dolphin calf on a jetski. Was a terrible thing.
    I can't wait to see the progress of the healing. Obvious name would be Scar, all tough and rugged but how about Lenny? :D Seems chill :)

    Carlos, I said when you first posted this that I had saved it to watch later, as I knew it would be upsetting. I did watch it, just now. I'm so glad I did; it's great to see that this particular young shark is healing. The dorsal fin wound is just horrific. But I don't wonder at the rate of dorsal fin injuries in white sharks after seeing your many videos covering the way they use their dorsal fins to touch and investigate. I guess this one probably did just this with the boat propeller.
    The other logical theory is, of course, that it is the highest point in the water and most likely to be struck. Perhaps this was the case here. Either way, I do believe it should be forbidden to use motor boats in nursery areas, whether fish, sharks, whales, or pinnipeds.

    I love watching these magnificent creatures. Thank you for your work. It breaks my heart what humans are doing to this planet, our oceans, and all living creatures on it. These beautiful creatures endure pain and discomfort that they should not have to, many times just because of our carelessness and indifference. I look forward to your amazing coverage of these majestic animals and hope that your work will spark the changes humans need to make for these animals to thrive❤. I think this shark should be named Hope. I chose this name as when people see him/her, I hope they make efforts to ensure manmade injuries like this one will not happen again. I also chose hope in that this sharks resilience should inspire all of us that no matter how bad something can be there is always hope to do better.

    Whales come to humans for help. Sharks have also done so. Maybe this shark (the prop injured one, Mercury) is looking for a doctor, or it saw who was driving the boat. White sharks are very intelligent. So are crows and ravens. If you fuck with a crow he will remember forever. Mercury knows the boat pilot, and knows humans look different from each other. Revenge isn't just a human trait.
    Now, if we could invent a prop that prevents injury by its construction, we could save many lives and injuries such as this.

    Shark body frame is made of cartilage which can grow back quickly due to the very high uric acid content in their blood, but the soft cartilage is easier to be cut by boat propeller than the hard bones. Boaters are mostly responsible for severe injuries of sharks in shallow water shark nursery. California has law prohibits shark fishing in shallow water from shore, but the law makers missed the most dangerous killers/attackers of great white sharks in shallow water nursery, the fast boats. 🤔🤨🙄😎

  • @outoftime7740
    @outoftime7740 หลายเดือนก่อน

    All these injuries could be from orcas and obviously boats or water crafts. Maybe these sharks, got away, or the orcas weren't really hungry to chase and kill. No one has ever caught, on film, great whites fighting eachother. Great white sharks seem so docile, rather than aggressive.
    Have you ever seen that 30 minute film of some South African guy, who decided to tie a rope around a dead whale carcass's tail and to his boat. And he is underwater filming all the sharks feasting on this whale carcass. He is feet away, filming this. There were several tiger sharks there and over a dozen dusky sharks. All the sharks were super aggressive with him. The Tigers were bumping him constantly. He was constantly fighting off the dusky sharks, who were trying to attack him. All of a sudden, every shark backed away, because a huge female great white showed up. She came right up to where he was and took a huge bite. She then would circle around left. Once she accidently bumped into this guy and he realized, she likes to go left. So he waited there and sure enough she came around, repeating this and taking huge bites in the same spot. Killer footage of the great white. This man claims, that this great white, saved his life, from the other sharks there. Afterwards, he is on his boat, talking about this story. And he stated, the great white shark, was the only shark there, that had great table manners.
