    Hi Kelly, love your videos, they are so informative and it is beautiful to see you gorgeous flowers. Over the last year you have encouraged me to fall back in love with hydrangeas, I remember them in my grandparents garden and this year I planted loads of annabels and a row of limelight paniculatas. I live in Suffolk in England and when my blooms are as big as your I shall send you a photo. In March I watched your video on protecting them from the cold with fleece or even just old sheets and did the same as we had a late winter storm a week after you.

    Excited to see you reshape these! I’m in the Hamptons/7A and we’ve inherited some beautiful yet overgrown, spindly mophead hydrangeas that I’ve left alone for this year, but would like to rejuvenate in the Fall. I know I’ll lose next Spring’s blooms but they are all heavy on one side with not many leaves. I think they’ll benefit from it in the long term!

    • @KellyLehman

      Hi Jackie, the hydrangea would be safer if brought inside since it will be below freezing but it sounds like that may not be possible . It may be fine if the half wall porch offers protection from the elements . Say a prayer and check on it tomorrow . I have a gelling it will be fine . 🌸😊

    Hi Kelly,
    Just found your video. I planted 3 Endless Summer Hydrangeas this year all on NE side of home. Then moved 2 to the NW side of home both have shade. When I purchased they had and still do have lovely blooms. Normally I would cut blooms off to encourage root growth. Is that something I should do with the Endless Summer Hydrangeas? By the way I’m in southern Wisconsin. In the past with perennial flowers I’ve never had a problem with pinching back to encourage growth. These hydrangea blooms are so pretty I just don’t wanna clip some off. Oh and if anybody has any ideas on how to keep chipmunks and the dogs that chase them out of my garden please advise. Thank you. Love your video.

Getting tired of the differing lengths of branches from years of tedious & careful pruning. Had a zillion flowers the past 2 yrs, but don’t like the flowers inside the plant. Afraid to trim 1/3 for 3 yrs to even out. Any suggestions? Thanks!

      …definitely thinning the dead branches out in the center tomorrow. Did the outside tonite. The 1st summer trim takes me 3-4 hrs & 2-3 days. I leave most flowers for winter interest. They didn’t turn burgandy last Fall/winter tho. Zone 8b.

    • @KellyLehman
      @KellyLehman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Thomas , what a lovely problem to have . So happy your hydrangeas are doing so well. I would cut the blooms and make bouquets from the flowers but only cut the stems down by a few inches so you don’t cut off next year’s flowers .
      This will not be a pruning but more of a deadheading . You might as well enjoy the blooms but cutting them with short stems for a lovely short bouquet ( think bridal bouquet size) and place them in a short chubby vase with water .
      Next years blooms are most likely already coming in on the small growth you will see in the form of green nodes . You can see the ones you will be leaving in place that will give you flowers next year . 🌸

    Hi Kelly. Great video. I am Lori from Royersford, Pa. I had bought Miracle Gro Fertilizer for my Endless Summer Hydrangea that I planted last Spring. Should I wait another year to use it? I recently bought a shade cloth that is supposed to block out 75% of sun. My entire yard is in the full sun for most of the day. Last year, I protected my newly planted hydrangea with a small umbrella staked in the ground. I opened up the umbrella in the early afternoons. My hydrangea bloomed nicely. What do you think about neem oil? I had some holes in the leaves. Trying to keep the insects away! Thanks for your advice in advance. Oh, by the way, I still have my hydrangea covered with one of those pop up protectors, with the mesh screen on top. I noticed my hydrangea has some green leaves coming up from the center and some green leaves on stems. I don't want to uncover plant yet since we are supposed to have some cold night temps dipping down into the 30s at the end of April!

    Hi Kelly! I love all of your videos and have great hydrangeas from your tips! Question - so although now it's closer to summer I do notice some of the wood that has white at the top, is it still safe to cut them back considering they're dead?

      @@brkfstinbed Hey I did! They came back great. This year due to the weird weather of going hot and cold all the time on the east coast noticing it's taking one side of my hydrangeas longer to bloom, assuming they're not getting adequate sun :(
