I use the app to play kalimba because I cant afford some good quality instrument but I love the sound of kalimba its so relaxing ❤

The thing that discourages me from playing is figuring out how to read and play typical sheet music with it (not with numbers or letters but with notes that most instruments use). There's so many songs I want to learn but don't know how to use typical music notation with it. I just get confused easily and don't know much about music.
Really? Most of Kalimba covers here on youtube are with tab sheets like numbers.
The Kalimba I bought had stickers with them that I could put on the notes. It made learning to play songs way easier
...YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO HAMMER THOSE!? I unscrewed the bar and slid them all up and down and screwed it on again over and over and OVER!!! D': It was even worse when I accidentally knocked the body of the Kalimba, and ALL THE NOTES SHIFTED.

I wish I could save shorts to Playlists. This is a great motivation to try tuning my kalimba again.

I just got mine in and I already have you are my sunshine memorized. I am obssessed. Its so soothing to play it. Every other time I jave tried to learn to play an instrument I have gotten frustrated and quit. I love my kalimba though. To anyone who has bad anxiety I would highly recommend

Yeah, it's possible and rather easy, but I hate it when I have to tune my kalimba every time I want to play a particular song. Sometimes it takes 3 minutes or so because there are 17 keys and sometimes you have to tune most of them... So I prefer putting the songs into a C major or A minor to match the kalimba tuning (tho it's kinda boring to have all the songs in the same key)
I thought it sounded good before I tuned it, but after and it’s like no matter what I play it’s gorgeous. Can just flick random keys and it’s so satisfying. But yes.. took me like 30 minutes to tune it properly. The higher ones were the most finicky. I felt so accomplished if I tuned one correctly the first try though. The E at the end was hard. Kept trying to register as an F till I put the kalimba right over the microphone

Tuning is true for the guitar, too. I couldn't tune my guitar right for my guitar class, so I dropped out of guitar class 4 weeks in so i never learned basic guitar. 🙃
This is so true, I stopped playing my kalimba because I didn’t know how to tune it and so I just forgot about it. I just started playing it again today and i realized that I lost my tuning hammer.

You dont need a hammer, wakes the neighbors. I use my house key to push on either sides.
I don't know what tuning app that is but Tonal Energy is the only one I recognize lol
Unfortunately mine didn't come with a tuning hammer. I got mine at the Earth Bound in that massive mall in Baton Rouge. I appreciate this video though. I am planning to go to a music store with it when I can. Mine is a round coconut one with 7 keys. 2 of the keys for sure need tuning. I still been having fun with it though for now.
i used to always have my kalimba out of tune so i always tuned them, and one time my baby brother was playing with my tuning hammer, he accidentally broke it 💀 so now i have no tuning hammer
If I forgot to bring my tuning hammer outside and on holidays can I use like a rock or a stick or like anything?
A rock isn’t recommended but I found that a thick butter knife or any sort of cutlery works great as an alternative

Actually i dont know how to paly a kalimba but i do play the piano i only got a kalimba because my aunt got me one so i had no idea how to do it but i know how to play the piano and j tried doing the notes just doing it in the kalimba and boom i know how to play the kalimba hehe so if any pianist sees this go get a kalimba!

What it can be discouraging is people's hypocrisy about kalimba. People said is the most "accessible" instrument, but you need nails, which some of us have a hard time to grow it. Worse, people advice about alaska pick, but they didn't even use it in the first place. There's like zero tutorial about how to play with, not even the glissando.
I know, I wrote it by frustration, but I feel that it's important to point it out...
I discoved that my kalimba was very out tuned that it shows an a for an 2 pluck
