Kerri was amazing winning the gold in that competition. I still remember the emotions witnessing it on live tv coverage as she stuck that landing with a broken ankle and stood through the pain until the s judges scored it. Then stood practically one legged on the platform during the medals ceremony. Just WOW! I don't think I've ever been more affected witnessing another televized sporting event.
Kerry is a great, great Olympic champion in the truest sense. At only age 18, she was already like a battered warhorse - strong, experienced, mature (for a gymnast) and had her body had already gone through much pain and injury through her dedication to the sport. I had the sense that she was consistently solid and reliable, but 'always the bridesmaid, never the bride' - somewhat below the radar, compared to teamsters that had more media attention, glamour and credit. She had also gone through a lot of inconsistency in coaching and prevailed. Then the stars aligned for her that day. The stage of her career had given her a level-headed calm to handle the immense pressure. Just before the crucial second vault, one commentator said "she knows what she has to do, and she'll go when she's ready." So true. You can see the moment of readiness and so much power in the launch. The perfection she achieved in landing while in so much pain was the stuff of an exceptional champion. So much respect to her. The blood, sweat, tears, pain, years, sheer hard work and dedication - it all paid off and she achieved the Olympic hero status she deserved, not just for the US, but globally. Strug is a champion's champion.
They won the gold medal EXACTLY 7 years before I was born. This video was published EXACTLY on my 13th birthday. When I realized this, I was the happiest person alive l! The Mag 7 is my favorite team ever and Kerri is my biggest inspiration ❤️❤️
WOW that's amazing. I remember watching the historic moment live on TV when the USA won gold because of Kerry Strug's amazing performance. I will never forget it.
I remember watching that moment, holding my breath with ever jump, twist, and landing. And when she stuck that landing and on one foot , to finish I jumped screaming! And then my heart sunk when I saw her fall in pain. That moment and she will go down in history!
1996 saw so many gymnasts at the top of their game from so many different countries. However, Strug did not need to perform that vault for the Americans to win gold. The coaches made her do that.
I think the 1996 USA women’s gymnastics team was the best team in the history of US gymnastics in Olympics. No other US team in women’s gymnastics was able to accomplish a gold for the team.
I love the flag leo from 1984. That will always be my favorite, but I also liked that 1996 flag leo. I also really wish they would go back to a flag leo. It would be more patriotic and show American pride.
At least it's red, white, and blue, and not pink, but still...I'd rather it have an actual flag design. They should have a contest for people to submit designs and the winning design gets used on the rio leo.
Uh- he IS a villain. He and his wife CHOSE to ignore the sexual abuse going on with Nasser and blackballed a couple of athletes(Maggie Nichols in particular) for speaking out. He is an evil, selfish and arrogant individual not deserving of any of the accolades he got through his abusive and inappropriate conduct.
@@saragrant9749 the parents in the fucking room looking didn't even know, the girls themselves didn't know....how was the Karyolis suppose to know then?
Not killing themselves and ending their careers or causing permanent physical or psychological damage for an effing medal? (It's funny how judgmental people are when they have no idea)
Ah look, another comment from the selfish and clueless community. Simone made absolutely the correct decision to withdraw and not chance devastating injury. She knew her team was strong enough to continue the fight, and made an appropriate choice to not chance a life changing accident. When you drag your head out of your own crap filled backside long enough to find some enlightenment, you might actually see that.
+Love Joy they all have families and a career so they don't have time to have a interview like maybe another time all 7 of them will be together but this one will only be the 3 of them

this is so cool

And... if you think about it, that era where Romania and Russia were flat out at the top of their game... that's why I wholeheartedly agree with you.
I Agree!💕😭
I still love the flag leo. I'd love to see it used again in Rio especially after getting a sneak peak of the new one.😝😜😨😭

...............CHE GARA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) DA RICORDARE X SEMPRE :)
WOW Kerry still looks as AWESOME As she died years old in 1996. She hasn't changed one bit. She's really Beautiful.
brother she is still alive
I think he meant to type " did" not died
This is so creative! So cool!!!! I thought those were the coaches. BUT there the gymnast!!!!!!!!
Mary Lee Tracy was Amanda Borden and Jaycee Phelps' coach, but other than that, it was the gymnasts, yeah. Very cool.
When is the Olympic trial video coming out?
Moceanu is against karoyli so she isn’t in this interview for sure.
And now they are trying to paint Bela as a villian.

Where is Amy Chow and all the other ladies? It took all 7 on the team to win. Not just 3 of them.
I guess the rest get another video??
Maybe they're unavailable since they're busy with something else
+Jessica Thi so they won't be interviewed or will it be all of them together? It just seems odd it was only three.
