My dad worked for a company that had to close … he got 2 years of severance & literally had 2 years off to relax & update his schooling to get a better job when is severance ran out. But I guess “corporate 9-5s” are the worst. Even when the boss fucks over the entire company by spending all the money on himself, my dad was still taken care of. :)
I had friends with similar situations after a bank merger. They lost their jobs but were compensated well. One of them decided to take the resources and start her own legit graphic design business (she had done that work for the bank.) Even when I was fired from my last job, I got enough back pay (they had to pay out my unused PTO) to keep me comfortable for a few months til I got my next job. interesting side note, I scheduled the interview for the new job while on vacation and found out I had been fired once I got back from vacation. They had sent a registered letter to my house to fire me, but I was of course, on vacation. I turned up to work on Monday, clocked in and then saw my name was not on the daily assignment list. My manager was not there yet and had asked my coworkers to tell me I had been fired. Terrible management, but I at least got my last pay checks. I would have been absolutely miserable had I been there while waiting through the process of getting hired at my new job. Instead, I did a bit of tutoring to make a bit of extra money and just because I enjoyed tutoring.

Often when unionized companies close they'll do something for their employees, like a payout, money for retraining, and (at least in canada) they'll have access to unemployment insurance. When your MLM closes, it's just gone, and often the sellers will end up having trouble getting their final checks.

It's always so revealing when they talk about the "industry". Where else would you lump makeup and crypto and diet food and water filters into one industry? Those are all entirely different industries. You wouldn't say you want to quit the HR industry or the middle management industry because those are roles, not industries. Unless MLM is really the recruiting industry and they are constantly admitting it. 🤔
