It’s a little harder to grade it through the video, but I truly believe it’s MS 64! I’ve been collecting Morgan’s for about 15 years, and that’s a beautiful coin. Let us know when it’s graded. Great video brother 🤘

What I look for: Hair over the Ear and Feathers on the Breast and like he says, State of The Die Polish, also known as The Basining. And in my case, can If I can do anything to restore The Basining.
Good point: I set my Morgan's in a Lineup of about 10 Morgan's to judge how well the Strike went. Interesting thing when you do this you notice that Liberty the girl on the obverse looks like a different girl on every coin.

Nice! That is definitely more of a pawn and coin shop. They seem to have both pawned and wholesale purchased stock. It is nicer than most shops I've seen. I can't wait to see how that first grading submission goes. Metal or Die !!!

What a great presentation VM, Wes is such a nice guy who clearly has a passion for numismatics and the history behind coins, always a good day when a collector/dealer is willing to share knowledge, good luck with the grading of your 1878S Morgan, fingers crossed for a 64 grade (but honestly I have almost no knowledge about grading), very cool US Congressional silver round (always amazes me how people are drawn to coins/rounds minted in their birth year, me included) and a beautiful St Lucia silver flamingo coin, glad you had a great time in New York, Wes' passion really shines through at the end, I think we have all been caught by the "bug", thanks for sharing an informative and entertaining video.

Looks like the Basin has burnishing just in front of the chin. Very common thing. I think it comes from pulling change out of your right pocket then taking the dollar out with your left thumb and index finger. But who knows. Hard to judge a coin without holding it and comparing it to other coins in a lineup. Maybe MS66.

Just going through my childhood coin collection stored around 1978. I came across a Morgan 1896. Good kid that I was I was careful and put it in a coin .. "window?" Square cardboard. Very shiny except for small oxidation brown in 2 places eagle side. [From storage]
My parents gave it to me for Christmas. I think the US mint found a bunch in the 70s? Probably why my parents gave it to me. (Really, I collected stamps, and nerdy, I would ride the bus as a preteen to buy the black and clear covers, lol)
I have cotton gloves to take it out.
Absolutely no wear just a few little scratches [she says. Need to take it out with magnifying glass]
So. I know not to ask worth. I bet it's value is $100. But what do I know?

Hey fam! It's great to see that you've rediscovered your childhood coin collection. The Morgan 1896 you mentioned is a popular and historic coin, which can indeed have some value. In the 1970s, the US Mint did release a large number of previously uncirculated Morgan dollars, so it's possible that your coin was a part of that batch.
As for the value, it can be difficult to determine without seeing the coin in person. The condition of the coin plays a significant role in its value. Since you mentioned that the coin is very shiny with little wear and just a few scratches, it might be in a higher grade, which could increase its value. However, the brown oxidation spots you mentioned might have a negative impact on the coin's grade.
Given the information you provided, a value of $100 is a possibility, but it could be more or less depending on the coin's grade and other factors. I would recommend taking your coin to a professional coin dealer or appraiser for an accurate assessment of its grade and value. No mint mark, I checked. And I have not taken it out of its coin window thing. And I was a stamp collector, and I'm a photo agent. I'd never get my gross fingers on anything. Great cotton gloves. I see no wear. The scratches are minor, and I had to really look.

I'm thinking about what my ASE's will be worth in the future in mint condition? I'm guessing around $150 each. They are already selling for $50.
Fingers crossed on that!!! ASE's were never in circulation so it's a lot easier to find them in mint condition as compared to morgans but they will definitely have value in the future
