Also the fact that Rio wasn’t my childhood. The Lego movie is my childhood. But only Blu and jewel. No one else in this movie were my teenagehood lol.
I agree with everything you said about Rio 2! It could’ve been a compelling story about Blu learning to fit in with his species, while Jewel comes to terms with realising her husband wasn’t raised in the wild and may be uncomfortable living in the jungle. The problem is the writing is so atrocious and there’s way too many underdeveloped themes, subplots, and characters! And yeah, to add insult to injury, Jewel was very unlikeable in this movie! It’s a shame, really. I love the first Rio, but this movie completely dumps on everything that made its predecessor great. Especially the dynamic between Blu and Jewel, which feels incredibly toxic and disingenuous in this movie.
Adulthood is rewatching Robots and realizing that it's about class warfare. Really good ranking here! I especially loved hearing you talk about your passion for the Peanuts movie at the end.
I remember Watching All 3 of those movies as a kid when they were released in cinema. Yes I’ve grown up with Blue Sky quite seriously. My reaction to Rio 2 was that I hated the macaw tribe and how everyone treated Blu to the point where I wanted the loggers to teach that tribe a lesson. At that age I thought I was stupid for thinking that but no 10 year old me was right. My reaction to the Peanuts Movie was that’s I really enjoyed it. The final act was probably the first time I got emotional in a movie and interested in romantic couple. I say first time because I was young and didn’t have such perspective I have now as an adult. I loved how sympathetic the girl was to Charlie, I saw it as the opposite of how Jewel treated Blu in Rio 2. So I knew this movie was great and wanted to see a sequel where Charlie gets the girl. Nowadays I am glad 11 year old me felt that way😢. Then at the age of 12 I saw Ice age 5 in cinema and hardly enjoyed at all. That day I learned that Blue Sky has made too many Ice age sequels and they may be at there lowest point. For the third time I made the right opinion as a kid. Not trying to brag here, I didn’t always have a good opinions as kid I was once obsessed with Ice age 4 🤭. Anyway rewatching Blue Sky films as a young adult has been fun (personally). Can’t believe I still have some of same opinions I had as a kid.

I really, really liked this ranking video. This is probably the best ranking video I’ve seen that’s related to Blue Sky Studios. And I thought I was the only person who thought The Peanuts Movie was the best Blue Sky Studios film, considering it’s one of my favorite animated movies of all time, and your video was the first time I saw The Peanuts Movie being ranked at #1, which makes me feel so happy. I also do agree for most of your thoughts upon the Blue Sky films, and especially the Ice Age films. Great job, man! This is a very worthwhile ranking video, and I hope it gets more attention/viewers then it has right now as I finish this comment.
While the first Ice Age movie’s animation has aged poorly, with the rugged character designs, plastic backgrounds, and dim lighting, I still think it looks pretty good for the time. 🤷♂️ I think the more dirty look makes it stand out, compared to its sequels. Tho, I do agree with your point on the soundtrack. Easily the best out of all the Ice Age movies! I love the more gentle, sentimental feel to it. Especially during the cave scene, which admittedly, doesn’t make me cry, but the score absolutely carries that scene! It’s honestly miraculous how the first movie captured wordless story so well!

18:1120:05 Any blue sky studios movies that I like are mainly the peanuts movie and robots (mostly those are the only 20th century fox movies along with fantastic Mr. Fox and the nine cartoon specials of Garfield on four DVDs that I keep around). But mostly the movie robots just because I found most of the characters including the antagonists ones, great and interesting (except for the guard gate guy named Tim, but everyone else was fine).
I’m on the same agreement with you on Horton Hears a Who. Now that I’m older and I start to realize how these Dr. Seuss movies aren’t really as good as I thought they were as a kid, I guess HHAH is 5/10. My opinion on the voice cast is so convoluted for me like they kinda work but they kinda don’t at the same time (except the voice actors for Yummo Wickersham, Rudy and maybe Vlad are pretty good).
Imo it would go: #13 - Ice Age: Collision Course #12 - Peanuts Movie (haven’t watched) #11 - Ferdinand #10 - Epic #9 - Ice Age: The Meltdown #8 - Spies in Disguise #7 - Rio 2 #6 - Horton hears a Who #5 - Ice Age: Continental Drift #4 - Ice Age #3 - Robots #2 - Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs #1 - Rio

I find Epic ok. I like the design of the Leafmans and the other creatures like the Flower peoples and the insects, Ronin is a cool character and a good mentor for the teenagers, the action was fun. I didn't find the villain that intimidating or interresting, the snail and the slugs were not funny, the dog looked a bit ugly. The worst part was the romance! MK got shrunk, knows Nod during a day then she loves him? All she knows is that his father dies, that's it! Also, he laughed when he learned that her father is a stomper. This guy was disrespectful and a little annoying 😐Their relation was rushed and not well developped. To me, theses two are friends not a couple.
A lot of narrative shifts would need to be made, but I think the two main changes I would make would be 1. Have the movie solely be focused on Blu & Jewels conflict opinions on the wild, thus giving us a singular central theme that isn’t buried under 12 different plot lines. And 2. Make Jewel be more understanding with Blu not fitting in to make his shift in attitude a lot more genuine.
That argument scene with Blu and Jewel from Rio 2 was, and forever will be, one of my most hated scenes in any movie I've ever watched...
It's just like their argument on the first movie but bad written
Reminds Me Of Pixar And Dreamworks Movies That Had Argument Scenes
