    Food for thought. I started watching this video. Got hooked because you were talking about targeting the fish offshore. I was about to leave the video and go search a video for “targeting fish off shore without forward facing sonar” I stuck around and what do ya know that’s this video!! Was gonna leave because I didn’t think based on title or the open it would talk about targeting fish without FFS. Again food for thought. Love the content and great video

    I have been doing this for years on Buggs Island Lake. Years ago, blue back herring was introduced. I started to notice that fishing was more difficult than usual. Fishing the traditional places and tactics. Then, the striper fisherman started telling me about largemouth they were catching out with the stripers. I started fishing the way you are doing in the video. All of this way before FFS. The bass roam with the bait and the stripers. Here in an area and gone, traveling somewhere else. It can be fun and it can be frustrating. That is fishing. 😂

    Buck Perry was teaching this technique in the sixties. I was a teen in the mid seventies and I read his book, Spooning for bass . I've been offshore bass fishing on secondary drop offs and creek channel structure all my life without any electronics. I just tied a two ounce sinker to some trotline and drag it from the shore until I hit a drop off and then map it out the same way. Trolling a spoon over deep structure in the summer months caught some really nice sized bass.

    Awesome video. Love that you're trying to figure this out without the use of FFS. Champ status. Great timing too as IMO most bass in my area seem to relate to forage instead of cover this time of year. Great stuff 🤝🎣

    Ive been working on figuring out how to target the "live scope" bass without the live scope for the past year. This was almost exactly what I was thinking about doing. Fish finders are truely a game changing technology. As long as you can understand and "read" it right it really pays off. I also like to go out without any electronics and old school fish. Its definitely more of a challenge. Still fun though.

      @308_holes_cures_commies I've caught more fish than you have seen pictures of, I was in the amateur tournament bass circuit in the nineties, I've been a professional guide for over ten years. I literally teach people to fish. How about you stay in your lane and give advice on being an incel that hasn't seen sunlight in months and eating junk food.

      @@adamklunke4674 bring only the rods and lures you need to cover the three layers, top middle and bottom. Look for structure look for cover. Silent and clear on sunny days with no wind. The more disturbance there is on the surface of the water the louder or more of a disturbance your lure needs to make. The darker the sky or the darker the water the more contrast your bait needs to provide in color. And don't forget to troll. That definitely helps you find Bass and other fish in between fishing spots that you normally would miss without electronics. But you can always just pick two or three confidence baits in three different color choices and aim for structure and cover. Will the kayak you don't need to be afraid of going in really shallow like you normally would be afraid with a bigger boat. But you definitely have to be as silent as possible.

      Exactly they have always been there a lot of fishermen aren’t good at fishing off shore in Deep water targeting suspended fish although today electronics are making it easier to catch those fish some people will still target the fish closer to the bank because they are set in there ways of fishing and they will never change it’s a lot easier to complain about live scope and forward facing sonar instead of trying to change an adapt to a new way of putting fish in the live well the way I look at it either learn or get left behind because the technology is only going to get better and better.

    • @cliffordhutt143
      @cliffordhutt143 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      The shallow fish are definitely more pressured. Those suspending fish out deep have always been there, and this hot FFS bite will decline as well as more people adopt the technology and those fish become pressured as well. It's a bonanza right now, but it won't last.

    I've been fishing this pattern a few years now. I paddle towards schooling Bass busting minnows on the surface in my kayak, no fish finder or sonar. I've found that killing the bait if I get a strike and a miss usually hooks me up with a better quality fish that waits below the melee. My favorite lake is deep & clear, most pound the banks but I prefer deeper off shore structure that I find dragging lures on the bottom.

We don't spend the time to learn what we are seeing on our screens. You were pointing out the size and possible species on your screen. You just reinforced my need to get better educated on what I am seeing with my units,so that I can up my game on the water. Time to look for a coach.

    Great video. Love your channel. However, I don’t believe that this is necessarily a new pattern. Forage (main one) and feeding times/behaviors always dictate fish locations. The previous patterns discussed in this video are just high percentage areas (staging/resting spots) when fish aren’t actively feeding or chasing bait. Bottom line, bass are everywhere, but are definitely are grouped up when actively feeding.

      I partnered with Lowrance for my videos going forward. I’ll be making a video explaining my reasoning, but long story short, I like the traditional sonar views on Lowrance the best of all 3 brands and Active Target 2 is good enough to replace Livescope for what I like to do.
      I didn’t commit to 1 brand because I didn’t think I could get the right setup with only 1 brand of units. I’ve been testing different units over the past 2 years and finally decided I could confidently partner with Lowrance on all sonar views.

      @jerrylanglois7892 they have adapted to fishing pressure. Just like Jonny talks about in the video, did you watch it? You even said you do what Buck teaches, gong shallow to deep when you troll to find fish. So there's one thing that has held up from his teachings. Also Buck taught about fish feeding on movements, they don't bite unless they are active. This has been demonstrated in Jonny's videos countless times. Buck also taught about Lake types and water clarity. To this day, people still use Buck's theories on lake types and water clarity to guide their efforts. Buck also taught about structure and depth changes. He taught bass relate to Changes in depth. That was also evident in Jonny's videos. Buck taught about seasonal movements. Where fish tend to move with seasons. Buck originally taught that. Still holds up today. Buck's teachings are the cornerstone of modern bass fishing.

If spoonplugging is the '' key to success and lunker catches '' why hasn't it caught on in a big way instead of remaining a very small cult up north ? After all, it's been around since 1946 ?
      I was a diehard '' spoonplugger '' in the 70's and 80's and corresponded heavily with perry and can tell you some interesting stories of how buck wanted to use me and my twin brother to promote spoonplugging but he's dead and in all fairness not hear to defend himself so we'll let it be. We throw thousands of bass in the same areas year after year. We are creating schools of bass that feed in schools instead of feeding as individuals. I think any tournament with over 50 boats in it should have to return fish to multi areas on the lake.

    Sight fishing at 50ft lol. First off fish have to have a place to go to get away from being hunted for a while. Do you want your bass to spawn well in your lakes? cause this will hurt if too many do it. Just sayin

    I think that is the misconception…catching FFS fish is still extremely difficult…You may be able to locate fish you hadn’t seen previously, but actually getting them in the boat is not easy…watching the pros on TV makes it seem like all you have to do is see fish on FFS and throw at them and every fish bites your minnow…it doesn’t work like that

    It's no secret bass have been out in open water forever....there will always be fish shallow as well as deep...the problem today is cheating has given no protection to every bass in a lake...these deep water bass aren't pressured & with legal cheating being the "technique"...the fish have no chance....teenagers catching 30 lb. Limits in major tournaments because of Cheatscope should be very disturbing to true anglers

    • @z7josh
      @z7josh 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Such a biased, terrible take. Your complaint about the angler’s age tells the rest of us all we need to know about yours. Stop gatekeeping fishing. There are no “true” and “untrue” anglers, you honestly sound more ridiculous than fly fishermen who whine that it’s not “real fly fishing” when other people add a split shot to get their fly out further and deeper.
