- Hey everyone, today I’ll be testing out the new MAC MACXIMAL lipsticks and comparing them with their original formulas. For the comparison I’ll be concentrating on Velvet Teddy & Ruby Woo and testing to see if anything significant has changed! Then I’ll be demonstrating some new shades; Twig Twist, Go Retro, Mull it to the Max, & Warm Teddy- all lip swatched!

I genuinely thought there was something wrong with my eyes! The new velvet teddy is more mauve and a tinge deeper! Thank goodness it’s not only me!
Haha, me too! I genuinely thought that it was either my eyes, or that there was something wrong with my lipsticks 😂 It’s strange because I’ve since seen reviews saying that the colours are identical, but they’re most certainly not! Thanks for validating my eye sight 😂💗
Thank god cause the original looked horrible on me, I had to pass it on to my sister as it pulled orange on me.
Went back to Mac today, she told me that the change in formula made velvet teddy darker! I picked up thanks it’s Mac and I’m happy again 🥰

The new formula is a lot less pigmented. For example, the new Russian Red has to be applied two or three more times to get an opaque coverage.
@@ChrissieSM Totally agree, the old formula was much more opaque! So devastated about Russian Red, it was my favourite. Wonder how long my old one will last before it expires 🙈 Thank you so much for sharing! 🩷

Hi Carmel, as always I appreciate your comprehensive review! I love a Mac lippy, I have 2. Really noticed a marked difference in shades of Velvet Teddy. On the still photograph the new formula appears more pink, as you said, but much drier and almost chalkier than the original. All the new shades looked fab on you! I particularly liked Go Retro on you, old hollywood glamour. I could see you with a marcel wave 😊! Xx❤

I once tried the old Velvet Teddy and liked it. I bought it at the airport two months ago, and it turned out to be the new version and it's quite mauve on my lips instead of warm pink, which I don't like that much...
It’s definitely changed, for sure! It’s funny because one lipstick can look so different on each person that tries it!

Hey! So sorry but I never actually tried the old Go Retro 😕 I would definitely advise you to go in & swatch in person though because some shades have definitely (and very subtly!) changed! 🩷

They changed the scent.. vanilla w a chemical after scent to me. I can’t. I bought one of the reds, Keep Dreaming.. it’s beautiful, but it gets quite dry on my lips. They took Snob from a satin to this formula. Yuck though. 🙄😩🙄 I do like the new bullet though. Also, only a couple of cool tones.. 😐
Why kill the scent though.. I’ve been wearing this lipstick since MAC was an indie brand w Ru Paul as their spokes model. The scent is everything. Gives me memories and all the feels.. they were $10 when I began purchasing them.
Praying they don’t mess w Creme Cup.. holy grail, always in my bag.. scary.. truly.
Oh no! 😢 They do smell the same to me, but that’s crazy that you’re noticing a difference 😓 When I spoke to the girl at the MAC counter, she said they’re having a big overhaul, so there will be more on the changing/chopping block! You’re right, the scent always takes me back to a memory too!

I’ve bought several of the new formula, and I prefer the old. The newer formula seems to be more matte. On you, the new formula of Velvet Teddy is peachier, which I prefer on you.
I agree, the new formula feels more dry & the previous formula is certainly more creamy! I definitely like the improvement on Ruby Woo though, it doesn’t feel as super matte as before ☺️ Thanks so much for sharing your opinion on these, I find it really interesting 🥰

New Velvet teddy will suit brown skin ?
Oh gosh I absolutely do! Obviously different lipsticks can look different on every individual, but I think the mauve/pink undertone to this would be beautiful on brown skin. I’m olive and can find shades tricky, but I had no issues with it 🩷
is the new ruby woo transfer proof ?
Hi there! No, I don’t find Ruby Woo to be transfer proof 😕 However I do like the new Ruby Woo formula more because it’s not quite as matte as before! ❤️

the new lipstick Russian Red has a more orange tone. I did not like.

Hmm, I’m wondering if it’s the colour that they’re saying hasn’t changed? Because they’re definitely a reformulation! I guess I can only report back from my own experience & the colour of velvet Teddy has definitely changed unfortunately 😭 If you try any of the new ones you’ll have to let me know what you think too! 🩷

The new ruby woo is warmer. The liquid ruby woo is the exact match as the retro matte
