The skipping cutscenes part is fine if either the story isn't interesting or the gameplay is your only priority for you and anything else makes the game a disaster, but you have to be either braindead or a Metahuman to be able to watch a TV show or movie at increased speed, because I sure as fuck could never remember anything about it if I tried to do that.
Kids, if you wanna review something, then pause frequently and take notes, maybe even compile a Google Doc if you're streaming it with permission from the rights holders. And if you're watching a TH-cam video or livestream and you find another that looks more interesting, just skip the one you're currently on and come back to it later.

I once caught an episode of Community, one of my favorite shows, on TV and was hoping to get a friend into it since it came up. It was sped up, which made it sound strange and ruined the pacing/timing of so many jokes. I looked into it and found out many channels do this to fit ads into the timeslots. I have friends (yes multiple) that skip scenes in shows, like they see a scene with a character they don’t like and they’ll just skip the whole thing. Though it’s not as bad as one of them that skips whole episodes and on some rare cases he skips full seasons.

  • @pokebros6416
    @pokebros6416 ปีที่แล้ว +4

To me you can only skip cutscenes if you've already played through the game once or if you have already watched someone play through the whole game on or off the internet. But Connor's just like only gameplay no story, and the only story he likes is Movies or TV shows. The man should just be banned from playing any games that have story and only play like Balloon Tower defense, Dragon city, Clash of clans or whatever doesn't have story.

  • @M7S4I5L8V2A

I don't unless I've seen it but if it's not voice acted I usually skip it. When it comes to any game but Yakuza I hate reading text boxes.
Yakuza unlike any other game has a thing where if you hold a button another one becomes an instant skip of waiting for letters to type out but you can just mash it out. It lets me read things at my pace where most games have a cool down on skipping stuff.
Also now I remember why I don't have any desire to watch Connor. He skips cutscenes and doesn't seem like the type to play games I like long enough to get good so I can't respect it.

However, if you do want to skip around etc like others have said don’t complain that you don’t understand something because that is your fault.

But sometimes when you want to play a game that has good gameplay you dont want to spend limited time on sitting on a cutscene.

What Connor does is he plays every single game like he’s trying to do a damn speed run of it. Worst part is he’ll skip the tutorials and cutscenes but spend the next couple hours complaining that he doesn’t know what to do or understand what’s going on. Lol like if you wanna skip cutscenes fine do you but don’t then complain that your lost and don’t know what’s going on. Connor would literally rather struggle in a game for hours rather than take the time to do a 10 min tutorial. He’s the most impatient content creator I’ve ever watched. It’s frustrating to watch sometimes cus he just is so reluctant to even give things a chance. It’s okay to not like something everyone has their preferences but how can you know what you do and don’t like story wise if you never give any of them a chance?

  • @justanoman6497

The only anime that I watch while distracted are those for which I've already read the manga/LN for(in some cases, both). Such that I already know the actual plot, so I'm just watching for interesting visuals at select moments, usually fights or fan service.
As a general rule, if you have to hasten the progress in any way, be it not reading dialogue, skipping cut scenes, speeding up the videos, IMO you should just skip whatever it is entirely. You are obviously not enjoying the entire thing, so why not find something that you would?
Doing it for one's job is a legitimate reason. In that skipping the title isn't really a possibility. But I would argue it is a bad way to do a job and is cheating either the employer or, in the case of video creator, the audience(which is sort of the employer?) The way Garnt describes his process, for example, means that there is a high likelihood of confirmation bias and missed nuance. So whereas he says 99% of the show confirm his original suspicion, I can't trust that. It's probably still the vast majority as many anime do tend to be formulistic, but maybe only 95% and he missed 4% that are actually different in more subtle ways.
P.S. I hate side quests in games that does not contribute to the world building of the game. Because those actually contribute nothing when read. I will stop playing a game if this turns out to be the majority of the side quests.
P.S.2 I am very annoyed by skippable cutscenes in multiplayer content that you cannot rewatch somehow later at your own pace. I'm not gonna be a d*** and not skip and make my allies wait, but I do want to watch the cutscene. I've had to resort finding playthrough videos on YT etc to see what those are a number of times.

Connor's sentiment on Stories in video games is something I both hate and completely understand at the same time. I'm like Joey and cutscenes to me feel like a earned break and reward from beating a section. Like I get it when you start up a game your intention is to play the game not to watch a movie or read. I'm sure the feeling Conner gets when he sees the opening cutscene is the same feeling people get when they play a new board or tabletop game and someone has to read the rules or set up the plot. Game developers need to integrate their stories more in the game part of their video games. Involve the player in your story and then they would be more willing to see it play out.

I think it’s fine. One of my friends who isn’t very good at video games and doesn’t really care to get better plays games for their story. She’ll try to get to the next cutscene by herself but if she struggles, she’ll ask her husband to do it (he’s happy to help).
Someone could easily be the opposite, they play video games for the challenge and don’t care about the story. If the game play isn’t good enough on its own, the game isn’t good enough for them.

I can't watch normal YT videos on anything but 2x anymore. Only exception is when I'm tired/exhausted or when it's music or something cinematic where I don't want to ruin the pacing. But if it's just somebody talking, I don't see any reason not to watch it sped up. I can understand it perfectly well and it's not like it chances what they're saying. And for most stuff, the pacing is irrelevant or even way off anyway. I don't watch anime sped up though.
