- Northern Italy and southern Switzerland have been hit by severe weather, causing landslides, flooding and the isolation of several communities, including Cogne and Cervinia. Helicopters were used to evacuate hundreds of people. Three people have died in the Canton of Ticino, Switzerland. The road from Cogne to Aosta has been severely damaged and will take weeks to repair. The regional government has declared a state of natural disaster and is calling for a national state of emergency. The priority is to save lives and restore essential services, with the local community determined to rebuild and welcome tourists again.
