He was clearly getting emotionally choked up when he was singing. If you ask me, that tone in his voice is regret. He even says "those poor forgotten sailors" like he feels sorry for them.

I fell in love with this song for the first time today. I was playing sea of thieves and when I heard it I was struck. I don't know what it is, but the melody is haunting but it still makes me feel free. And this arrangement is the best I've found. So thank you for your work, this is a masterpiece
Stitcher Jim is fascinating to me, a man whom now tries to crawl out of the pit he threw himself into and become a better individual. The crimes against Morrow's crew won't be forgotten on the seas, but perhaps with time he could prove to be a vital role to the impending struggle that now comes to the Sea of Thieves. I truly believe Jim has potential to be a great character.
