You can't always meassure resistors in curcuit and expect to read the same value as written on them. You meassured resistors which run in parallel to others or are connected to ICs - of course they will read lower.
You better know i'm gonna pop in here To be frank, I was rather nervous watching this, lol. Glad you at least had one success. Optical drives are rather complex - just as their failures. Wish we could get some pointers from someone with deep knowledge of their design. I had a good run of successful recaps - 'til I eventually encountered some with otherwise failures. One of which was a Samsung SDG-605F. Functional when stored away - faulty when tested months later. Stored in ideal conditions and all. Still troubleshooting this drive, doing further research, taking new approaches, etc. I'm stubborn - just like these drives.
Yeah, I have a bunch of other drives I need to go look at and continue to try to get things going. There's also Andr0 (i don't think I could tag people in comments) that is doing the same thing, probing around boards to see if he could also bring them back to life. Your threads definitely got me interested in this whole topic for sure.
For the Thomson drives, have you tried reflowing the points where the ribbon cable connects to the laser assembly? I saw something in a forum post but can’t remember where I found it.
Have you managed to go through more drives? I would be interested in knowing what percentage drives are working again and is it caps or resistors etc. Thanks
excellent video!!!,I also have a classic Xbox, and it has a small issue. After starting any game, it freezes after some time, and here in Brazil, there is no technical assistance to fix it. I feel sad seeing it sitting idle and gathering dust😥
Thanks for the advice. I recapped the Samsung 605 F drive board and it works now.
Niceee!

I did not, but I will give it a shot for sure!

I tried a few more recently and the last Samsung I did got worse after it. Now it freezes everytime.

Procura pelo canal @RodrigoGames99, ele conserta praticamente só xbox original.
You fixed it!
I wish someone made a mod that allows us to use commerical DVD drives.
Well, it seems like most don't really care about the drives working at all since we have the drive delete mods now.
You can just need to flash the dvd drive or rewire the original cable to the pc dvd drive pcb you want
Whats up shawn...
Stop capping
try tweaking the laser pots. thats a thompson drive, just toss it in the bin, they are useless.
This is just a temporary band aid and will make it burn out fast. Need to replace it
