Zeus: millions and millions of dollars worth robot meant to destroy whatever it sees. Atom: Free and almost indestructible steel robot that managed to knock Zeus down.
Literally an unstoppable force versus an immovable object. Zeus is a glass cannon, relying on his tech being able to provide an endless onslaught but not in being able to defend himself when he needs it. Representative of their design philosophy, Zeus is a show pony with the all the latest bells and whistles. He’s meant to last at most 3 rounds before his systems run low. Meanwhile Atom is a sparring bot. He is meant to be able to last an onslaught and constant torment and be able to pick himself up right after. Going days on end for the sake of training. His systems are built to last the test of time and nearly work magic to keep him running. It’s beautiful how well they rounded this movie out.
I don't think Zeus is a glass cannon. Zeus is like you said: Unstoppable force, capable of delivering constant onslaught and built strong enough to take hits. Issue is that it comes with a cost of endurance. Zeus starts to get beaten only after power core starts to run low. Basically, as long as it has juice, it can knock down anybody. All other bots tried to take down Zeus by pure strength, attempt to overpower it. Which turned out to be wrong strategy. Atom took different route: outlast it. With Zeus spending basically all juice it had to keep knocking down this one bot that could not deliver strong enough blow... but that bot kept coming back. Until Zeus ran out of power, and could no longer keep up that relentless onslaught that had brought it victory after victory. And once it was forced into defense, it had nothing to fall back to. It had been built for offense. There was no "what if we can't knock out opponent permanently" built into its design.
@@Mandemon1990 hence my latter statement highlighting the resilience and reliability of Atom to take punishment for longer and harder than Zeus would’ve.
In my humble opinion and because I like believing: When it was the last round, and Atom had to be put in shadow mode, I think he went sentient and wasn't being controlled by Charlie anymore but was in control of himself and was now free as a robot and since he is a highly advanced robot, he still kept his attention on Charlie just to see his movement that way he wouldn't get caught doing different moves from Charlie. I know it's far fetched but I believe it because it's redemption for Atom and Charlie. Both lodged away from what they truly were meant to be: Charlie now goes back to the man he was and having his son and his ex back with him. And Atom, the tiny, junkyard bot who was thrown away, now taking down the King of the Ring Zeus. Because above all, where Atom may look, move and sound just like a robot, I think above all else, he has something no other bot has... A heart
i think this theory is right, Atom doesn't copy Charlie's moves perfectly (5:50, Atom punches with his right hand when Charlie uses his left hand) (6:08, Atom punches with his right hand and Charlie punches with his right hand)
@@reyubarra7513 I was trying to say that Atom changed its hands while mirroring Charlie (for instance, Charlie throws a punch with his left hand and Atom throws it with its left hand, but then a few seconds later Atom mirrors Charlie's left hand with its right hand, being inconsistent with the mirroring and maybe implying Atom wasn't mirroring Charlie's moves and was fighting on its own)
@MrCringe143 Yeah, I know, I commented about Gridlock on someone else's comment, they said "we all know Atom was the first to land a hit on Zeus" so I replied with 'actually, if you look at the big screen when Charlie and Max are near the arena, you can see that the bot that went up against Zeus before Atom, actually did manage to hit Zeus, also there was Gridlock, who also managed to land a hit.
I think the whole premise of the movie was that atom reintroduced the “human” aspect of fighting and that’s what gave him that edge to all robots programed to fight “robotically” or “Linear” if that makes sense . That’s why Zeus could not predict his moves as he was unpredictable with “Human” wit .
@Epic Gaming all of them have coded on moves like whenever the father was using noisy boy he said random names and noisy boy responded. In this atom fought entirely human and like the man said zues copies patterns atom had no pattern
Stop and think about the fact the guy was essentially fighting third person from an awkward angle and still making powerful, precise thoughts. He's got great spatial awareness.
I like how the movie reflected on real life boxing styles Atom's fighting style stems from his nature, a sparring bot, able to take hits while stile posing a threat if not careful, similar to a slugger style boxer. As for Zeus, him being light, fast and constantly closing up, no doubt he was designed to be an in-fighter, bridging the gap and launch swarms of attacks and aggressive all-out assaults. In terms of power, Atom lacked severely due to being an old model under maintenance of two non-professionals compared to Zeus's high investment in both departments BUT the fighter style favored Atom in this battle as his slugger style completely soaked up everything Zeus threw at him and swung back many crucial hits under the guidance of an experienced boxer.
Zeus’s punches were made with power in mind which is why he so easily able to beat other, and while he wasn’t built like atom to soak up heavy hits, Zeus likely has high quality armor which still allows him to absorb heavy hits (probably to an extent though)
I seem to remember when I watched this thinking that Zeus's team seemed to recognize Atom, and really not want him there. My first thought is that old model bot might have been Zeus's original training partner, and Atom might have data in it that might reveal a flaw in Zeus's design/programing/controls. Something about the fight had them out for blood and the way the Executives suddenly bugged out, all of it makes me think something isn't right, that there was more behind the scenes than what Charlie knew; or cared about.
The fact that atom was a robot that was meant to take heavy damage for practice is just awesome. And adding that he was the first bot to take Zeus down just adds on to the awesomeness.
@@freshbanana9948 according to the real steel lore Noisy boy challenged Zeus and became king of the robots until zeus came back and fought him in america where he lost but after some upgrades regained the title. however after that a japenese dude bought noisy and replaced his titanium armor with cheaper metal which eventually was sold to charlie. charlie became cocky and lost noisy boy. There was a reason he was known as the manga mangler he was a terrifying robot but now he's no more
What I have always admired in this move is representation of father and son relationship and how son sees his dad as his hero. The move wasn't just about robots but about a son who seeks to see a father figure, that was really touching. Great movie and still underrated I guess.
Man, Real Steel was an unexpectedly great movie. I love the obvious contrast between Adam (they always said it like that) and Zeus. Sure you've got the obvious David and Goliath size, but Atom moves in a much more human-like manner and is very similar anatomy-wise to a human. The way he gets hit and throws punches especially. Zeus is much more robotic in appearance, attacking soullessly with piston fists with only his head jerking around when he gets smacked in that particular spot. A real war of man vs machine was captured in this one fight, it'd be great if they made a sequel someday.
Well that’s partly due to the fact that Charlie is voicing commands to him and later on having Atom mimic his moves which makes him a lot faster and allows him to almost win. As opposed to Zeus, who’s being controlled through computers by a bunch of tech wizards. Until being overwritten manually in a desperate final attempt from his creator, Mashido. The difference is though, Zeus is still being controlled by a human. While Atom, after his shadow mode is turned on, BECOMES the human
This was my favorite movie when it came out. Still is one of my favorites. A true underdog story. Also, the suggestion that Atom is somehow sentient I really liked too.
Literally just remembered this movie after having not thought about it for like 8 years. I need to rewatch the whole thing, it’s such a hype movie and I forgot how dope it was
This fight is an example of how important Endurance and Durability are compared to all out offense like strength, speed, etc... Because if you run out of stamina you are already as good as dead.
One thing I never really noticed was that Zeus is built to deal incredible damage but can't take much, like a really fancy sports car fast, but easy to damage.
I think he was built to do both. But to do both requires alot of energy. It's similar to Mike Tyson. His punches are powerful and deadly, but his stamina is lower than you would expect.
i think the engineer never thought Zeus could be pushed to this extend with all the advanced parts it equipped with. I mean Atom was the first to drag Zeus in match this long and Zeus team arent prepared for this. never once this scenario crossed their mind
I still remember the hype I got during that last round when I was a kid, I just jumped around and started punching everything 😂. Ohhh the good old days.
And yet, they award Atom the win... If Atom won the first round and Zeus won the last 4, would the outcome still be the same? The order of the rounds don't matter when it comes down to a score card decision... Zeus would have DOMINATED the score cards. S M H
Well, that robot was made specifically as sparring “partner” for other robots. So Atom can obviously take a lot of damage without losing its functions. Combine it with actual boxer - it is unstoppable
Well, the kid also upgraded Atom’s arms with parts from one of Charlie’s dead robots. Still far from the best, but Atom was packing more gun than he was ever intended to have.
Also Zeus is kinda the opposite, meant to deal a lot of big hits with someone who very likely knows extremely little about boxing past how to control their bot
@@oliviabeattie8793 I'm pretty sure Zeus was patterned after Mike Tyson. Dirty tricks, try to wipe out the opponent as early as possible, and the weakness being endurance until the last round.
It's Boxing, and an underdog story, with Hugh Jackman, with robots... Honestly, this must have been one of the easiest movies to greenlight ever. One of my favourite movies, to this day.
This movie is probably my favorite depiction of an underdog story. There is no true power of friend ship bs, just hard work grit and tenacity. They make you feel the sense of hoplessness and the glimmer of hope when atom lands his first punch is everything. I also like how they foreshadowed zeuss weakness. They show his power levels shifting drastically as he is throwing hay makers at Atom. They intended to end the fight instantly and when atom didnt go down they payed for burning up all that power, because in a 1 to 1 on even power the bots are fairly equally matched, but when zues over clocks his power is far greater than atoms.
Atom is like a hard counter to zeus. Zeus is basically a glass cannon, his punches are devastating, but he can't take much hit either. Atom on the other hand can take alot of hits but cant hit as hard ( this weakness is eliminated through the skill of it's human operator who is an actual boxer with experience in the ring). If we look at the design of the bots through out the generations, we can easily which one is new and which one is old. Older bots are made of steel like atom, midas, metro while the newer ones are made some type of carbon fiber, if punch carbon fiber hard enough it's gonna break but steel, worst case scenario it's gonna deform. The difference is like ww2 battleship and modern destroyer, one's a relic that can take alot of hits while the other is like a glass cannon
i think the name real steel just shows that atom's build itself was from pure and strong steel while zues's arms were the only strong thing about him and the rest is shitty steel
I was 14 when this movie came out and still remember how worry free and amazing life was back then - these days it's so tough but watching this reminds me to hang in there and the good times will come!

The reason why Atom survived Zeus' powerful blows is that he's a sparring bot. *ATOM IS BUILT* to take insane amount of damage, and with Charlie's years of experience as a boxer, he can use it as a great advantage since he knows how inside the boxing ring works Edit: Also thanks for the likes and what happened in comment section 🤣
I don't know why I feel so inspired watching this movie and especially this fight. There's just something about the music, how atom keeps getting up, the roaring crowd cheering him on, and my god that jump punch. Makes me feel like I can do anything

Guard style, hook to uppercuts, gazelle punches, constant head movement, angle changes, throwing punches from inside and a lot of counter-punching. Atom in this scene takes heavy influence from Tyson.

This whole fight was Mohammed Ali vs Mike Tyson. Mike Tyson was an absolute powerhouse, over 40% of his fights were won in the first round, over 50% won by the second. He struggled when he had to fight past that point (Zeus). Mohammed Ali, however, was able to take a beating and hold out long enough that his opponent, literally Mike Tyson at one point, wore themselves out and was then able to get in and abuse the weakened fighter. This whole thing was supposed to be the Mohammed Ali story.

I think Charlie is more annoying and childish than the kid, at least in the beginning. The kid is clever, makes some good judgement calls and is a quick learner. I guess they're both growing... as it should be in a movie.
@@ziiofswe except you can say that Charlie kinda has a character arc, the kid is just annoying through and through and knows things he has no business knowing
This is actually a movie about a father trying to fix his relationship with his son. Whenever I want to convince someone to watch it, I tell them just that and omit the robot boxing part. It always works 😁
That part of the movie is so touching but I don't understand why people are like that. I mean, the whole package is a heartfelt story about a father connecting with his son and making up for years of not being there and on top of that you get robot boxing? That's awesome!
As Charlie Kenton saw Max and bonded with him he just wanted to be a good dad but sadly Max's aunt has full custody for taking care him I love this touching story For the longest time of your life you never met your father since birth and you met him in either your childhood days or nearly a teen or any age and the father didn't know what to do at first glance but instead doing his hobbies and then time passes he grew more to connect his son's wishes but sadly some relatives are also ready to take care of the kid even if it means taking them away from their biological parents as the father knew about it he decided to give his son's wishes whether if it's his first or last gift as long as their kid is happy that's all that matters
Actually Zeus had a very big Chance to beat him he had 6 power reserves and atom had 1 and still kicked his ass. they traded blows for 5 rounds and atom still didn’t give up. This movie gave me feels that he was really alive and he could understand max man heartwarming. also technically atom wasn’t made to do damage but with Charlie’s knowledge in boxing was able to find Zeus’s weak point (MIND YOU HE DIDNT HAVE ONE) And used the titanium which atom was made from to beat Zeus’s ass
I feel like this movie is so underrated. I absolutely love it. And the way they incorporated the shadow-boxing so that Charlie could get back into the ring again in his own way was really well done. That midair shot is something else and gets me every time. I rewatched the movie today and was surprised that it actually brought me to tears

Thanks to the salvages and defeat of Noisy Boy (Voice Recognition system) and Ambush (G2 remote control), Atom is a beast and Charlie having character development from his mistakes
The background music in the beginning is the same as the music when Charlie and Max were entering the "Zoo" for Atom's first match (the one with Metro). I love how they played the same music for Atom's first and last fight in the movie ❤
Fun fact: Atom was the second ever robot to ever land a hit on Zeus. That's why everyone including Tak were so surprise. The first one being Gridlock; the yellow robot who had his head beaten in after a weak gut shot.
2:41 When Atom hit Zeus with that right uppercut it was just like when Rocky nailed Drago with that massive right hook that cut his eye and stunned the whole stadium. In both cases that's when the bad guys realized "oh shit this might actually be a real fight wtf!?"

God I love this movie. It will always have a special place in my heart.
Atom was sentient the whole time too
Movie name
In my humble opinion and because I like believing:
When it was the last round, and Atom had to be put in shadow mode, I think he went sentient and wasn't being controlled by Charlie anymore but was in control of himself and was now free as a robot and since he is a highly advanced robot, he still kept his attention on Charlie just to see his movement that way he wouldn't get caught doing different moves from Charlie. I know it's far fetched but I believe it because it's redemption for Atom and Charlie. Both lodged away from what they truly were meant to be:
Charlie now goes back to the man he was and having his son and his ex back with him.
@@elraperitodemierdabrono, its not, its just mirroring, when you raise your left hand in front of a mirror your reflection will raise its right hand
@@reyubarra7513 I was trying to say that Atom changed its hands while mirroring Charlie (for instance, Charlie throws a punch with his left hand and Atom throws it with its left hand, but then a few seconds later Atom mirrors Charlie's left hand with its right hand, being inconsistent with the mirroring and maybe implying Atom wasn't mirroring Charlie's moves and was fighting on its own)
I think both argument are truth in some way. Atom was mirroring Charlie's movements but make slight changes when he thinks he needs to.
@@braveheroanimator4166 exactly 🤝🏼
I love how when Atom landed a punch the Asian guy took off his sunglasses like “Oh shit”
He was like
"this wasn't how it was meant to go"
When atom landed a punch atom was like "I can do this all day"
I mean, the whol story is that no bot that went up against Zeus ever landed a hit, so when Atom did, it was the right reaction.
He took off his sunglasses cos he realised he’s indoors
I think the whole premise of the movie was that atom reintroduced the “human” aspect of fighting and that’s what gave him that edge to all robots programed to fight “robotically” or “Linear” if that makes sense . That’s why Zeus could not predict his moves as he was unpredictable with “Human” wit .
Epic Gaming but not all of them were programmed using shadow boxing
Atom is the underdog that you see in many boxing films, he a small bot going up against these big guys who throw a harder punch.
not to mention charlie was a mad boxer lmao
@Epic Gaming all of them have coded on moves like whenever the father was using noisy boy he said random names and noisy boy responded. In this atom fought entirely human and like the man said zues copies patterns atom had no pattern
Also atom revealed to Max he’s sentient
It's been 11 years. Still one of the best movie ever made. Literally had goosebumps
Stop and think about the fact the guy was essentially fighting third person from an awkward angle and still making powerful, precise thoughts. He's got great spatial awareness.
I like how the movie reflected on real life boxing styles
Atom's fighting style stems from his nature, a sparring bot, able to take hits while stile posing a threat if not careful, similar to a slugger style boxer.
@@boreragnarok7403 Zeus was built with carbon fiber i think, while Atom was pure stainless, hard steel
me too !
Beautiful
Homie made him taste the ring mat for the first time🤣🔥🔥

damn man enjoy your childhood while it lasts, I loved this movie as a kid too and now I’m 21
This fight reminds me so much of Adam vs Zues.
While Atom, after his shadow mode is turned on, BECOMES the human
tbh i think this movie is fine as it is, i dont think i want to go through the chance of ruining the story with a sequel

Yup I see that right now
I think he was built to do both. But to do both requires alot of energy. It's similar to Mike Tyson. His punches are powerful and deadly, but his stamina is lower than you would expect.

Zeus: You just don't know when to quit do you?

The difference is like ww2 battleship and modern destroyer, one's a relic that can take alot of hits while the other is like a glass cannon
great comparison with the naval ships from different ages, pretty much sums it up as modern ships have less armor then battleships
i think the name real steel just shows that atom's build itself was from pure and strong steel while zues's arms were the only strong thing about him and the rest is shitty steel
K
Because atom was made as a sparring robot, so it was designed to be able to take hits and get back up

The reason why Atom survived Zeus' powerful blows is that he's a sparring bot. *ATOM IS BUILT* to take insane amount of damage, and with Charlie's years of experience as a boxer, he can use it as a great advantage since he knows how inside the boxing ring works
