    The all-pass will be very useful for phattening kicks. I sometimes use kHs Disperser to give a bit of "whip" or "snap" to kicks, but will be trying Pro-Q 4 instead since it has adjustable slope. It can shape the phase delay in a more precise way than Disperser and you can add loads of phase-shift nodes which increases the effect as much as you want.
    I like the fact they've introduced "Subtle" and "Warm" modes to the plugin. These introduce an upper limit so you can drive the EQ into saturation rather than never actually reaching the limit (32-bit float in "Clean" mode). Warm introduces a 2nd harmonic which gives some fatness without overdoing it. Sounds nice to me and quite useful for flavour EQ.
    I do love that EQ search window. I'll be using that for the final Buss mixing to tweak the end product. Really nice having them all in one view instead of separate windows. Time saver for sure!
    Spectral dynamics is great, except for the fact it's referenced to white noise (equal intensity / 0dB tilt), so you end up with a broad EQ range only reducing the left half of the band but not the right half. You end up having to set two or more bands to catch other parts of the spectrum. I'd prefer if we could tilt the spectrum so it catches spikes equally across broad EQ ranges. Narrower ranges seem to work fine, though.
    All in all, I'm very happy with it. Worth it for me to upgrade as I'll be using it every day. Thanks for the vid!

    • @BigZMusic
      @BigZMusic  วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      That’s interesting, I didn’t know the spectral dynamics was referenced to white noise. I don’t know why they wouldn’t use a 4.5 or 6 dB tilt for that, that doesn’t make any sense

    • @PrincipalAudio
      @PrincipalAudio วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@BigZMusic Yeah. I was confused as to why it was only reducing half of the spectrum and I had to pull the threshold down much further to get it catching the higher frequencies. Would make sense to have a variable tilt on the threshold. Maybe something they'll look into adding if I request it on the forums. :)

    • @billjohnson6863

      @@PrincipalAudioYou can change the tilt of the spectrum in one of the bottom menus, does that have an effect?

    • @PrincipalAudio
      @PrincipalAudio 21 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@billjohnson6863 It keeps the audio as it is but just tilts the view so the spectrum appears flatter. It can tilt in 1.5dB increments. I choose 3dB myself (which accords to "pink noise" looking flat), but some people like 4.5dB or even 6dB which tilts the spectrum more to the left.

    • @PrincipalAudio
      @PrincipalAudio 8 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@BigZMusic Just tested it with white noise now. The spectral dynamics threshold has a flat response to white noise but isn't flat with pink noise. Guess broad range spectral dynamics EQ bands are out of the question. Shame really!
      Really thought they would've tilted the threshold spectrum under the hood to make it more "musical". Changing the spectrum tilt (for the spectrum visualiser) has no effect on the spectral dynamics threshold tilt.

    @lennartjenssen5669 20 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

    Good review, just some small corrections: Please do not use the "linear analysis" tab in plugin doctor to judge saturation or the effect of saturation on the signal. Saturation is by definition a non linear process so analysing it by using the linear analysis mode is close to useless. Secondly, the plugin adds saturation when equing. From the manual: "With Subtle character mode enabled, Pro-Q 4 will introduce a subtle, vintage type of saturation.The amount of coloring is highly program dependent and is different per frequency and affected by
    EQ bands as well.
    The Warm mode will introduce a slightly more apparent, tube-like form of saturation and colored sound." This means the saturation is only added when actually eqing a sound. Thats why you did not see any harmonics added while the eq was completely flat.

      @AlexanderHawkMusic that's good to know. I bought it a few years ago. Glad its not going obsolete. Would feel like i wasted my 💰. I also thought soothe2 would handle that exact problem differently after watching more videos of fabfilter q4

      @@ASZ8 ou can read about it as well :)) I don’t have Soothe, by the way, and the author of this video mentions it somewhere in the comments. But really, you can read about it yourself or just think you’re smart because you believe it, haha. If you already have Soothe2, you don’t need to buy Pro-Q4. If you have Pro-Q4, you can buy Soothe2 because they have more precise algorithms, haha. But in the end, you don’t have to do anything lol xd

    Can't hear differences from Clean vs Subtle mode, Hear just a bit on Warm mode. I really want FabFilter now.

    Yes some of us get this PLUG-IN at a DISCOUNT, and YES! it's better that Q3 but don't need AAL the function that it offers. I widh it was jus an UP GRADE like other PLUG_IN & Firmware UPDATE COMPANIES DO for FREE! It not too much out of pocket upgrade :)

    Okay question, I still use Pro-Q², did they got rid of the "auto analysing feature" ? It worked so gross, if you went from 4 bands up, it turned into a huge unhinged focus losing mess.

    TY ! After installing Q4, does a song with Q3 automatically upgrade to Q4, or do I have to delete Q3 and redo the EQ?

    How about CPU usage? Is it heavier? I find soothe kind of too heavy, but if Q4 is the same as Q3 I'd seriously dump soothe

    Do you know if you already have the Q3 you still keep the 3rd version? Cause i have it in all my projects already, it would be crazy if I need to re make everything

    So, are these high-cuts in the frequency response there to eliminate aliasing?
    Because that's the one question I have on this plug-in: Do the subtle and warm modes introduce aliasing?

    They basically took Soothe, and Sonible Smart EQ and put them into ProQ, no complaints but these things have been done before. Easier to have in one plug in I guess.

    I can already see how a million other vst developers, once again lagging behind FabFilter, will say in the coming years "hmm, we need to update our eqs quickly to have spectral dynamics". So hundreds of the same copycat FabFilter eqs will now appear.
