The story of the boat captain is just what Kratos describes. A tale of the pure cruelty he was capable of. He slew many other innocents on his path, but this is the only one that did not, even tangentially, relate to his revenge on the gods. He had no connection to any god, was not in Kratos' path as he pursued a god and did not possess anything that would help him seek his revenge. Everyone else had a reason, even one as flimsy as being in Kratos' way, but he didn't. Inside joke in the original trilogy, a bitter memory to learn from now.
The boat captain is comedy gold. I love how in the original trilogy Kratos so unnecessarily kills people. Boat captain gonna be the next main villain in the next game.
Goddam it! I played GoW 1 and I killed the Boat Captain twice and i thought it was hilariously! I feel like a dick for laughing at his death that time inside the hydra and again after using him as a ladder before kicking em in. Saw him again in GoW 2 and I was like "hmm, he sounds bit familiar", although he didnt have any weapon, but since he recognized Kratos, I was like "You're SOO DED!!!". In GoW 3 I Didn't read that "Note", GIMME RED SOULS...Guess I need to complete Valhalla to redeem myself?
I just find it so funny how it would have probably taken Kratos equally little effort to just drop him on solid ground in the Hydra's stomach. It always made me burst out laughing... Until Valhalla came and made that exact same realization something that tortures Kratos, and now it's less funny
I guess it's because there isn't any build up? It's treated as a running gag up until the Norse saga where it's suddenly a very serious event that plagues him. Maybe if he talked about it before Ragnarok instead of a passing lore gag, it might seem genuine but it's hard to not see it as a joke when that's all it ever was.
@@hyperion3145Yeah but yall gotta understand that this is a different character. The boat captain was a gag back when Kratos didn’t give af about who he killed. It’d be impossible for him to be a gag in the context of modern Kratos. Overall I think it’s cool that the such a pivotal and important character such as the boat captain was referenced once gain. Hopefully he’s the main character in the next game, or I riot
I played GoW 1 and I thought it was funny that some idiot died along the way...TWICE. Then in GoW 2 saw some idiot summon who didnt have any weapon but since he recognized kratos, I made sure to kill him ...I guess, Feels bad now after decades
How is the blade of olympus playable outside valhalla? Is that even the real blade of olympus? Because i thought everything in valhalla is just a memory or illusion
BoO is an illusion in Valhalla, the blade stayed with Athena, if krate had it he would've used against the tougher norse gods New Game+ is not canon, for example, you start with the spear then get it later in a cutscene, it's just a gamey ahh mode.
One thing everyone is forgetting to mention is that the BoO can be summoned even outside of Valhalla. While there can be an explanation behind it, such as Kratos still being on the shore land of Valhalla, it's possible Kratos' unique Godly power is being able to summon/conjur the blade wherever he goes. Remember, it is a weapon that he once put all of his divinity into.
Because we all lived bad lives, we all sin sometimes. Maybe for that "impurity" he went to hell, who knows? The ancient spartans had a pretty strict beliefs about who would go to heaven or hell. Calliope (Kratos' first daughter) went to Elysium because she was pure, but what about Lysandra (Kratos' first wife), she was also innocent and a good person, but where is she?

Boat captain meets kratos in valhalla:YOU AGAIN
I love that this franchise has its own inner joke.
The story of the boat captin the man we nvr knew would be the most casual point in most games

Damn Kratos was a monster back then
Why do people act like kratos regretting what he did to the boat captian was bad?

god of war 6 rise of the boat captain
Whats up this boat captain and kratos
1:07 was amazing. Just kratos proved that he can do everything for his purposes.

It's the Legacy Rage so it's only canon in Valhalla but an explain could be that the place gave Kratos' rage abilities an upgrade

Why did the boat captain go to hell if he was so innocent ?
Everyone falls into the underworld when they die, innocent or no. The river Styx carries them to their final fate.
@@thesenate9564 his final fate was still hell though
@@commentstealer4460 you silly goose he answered it perfectly for you. Its also not hell. This isn't Christianity
Maybe access to Elysium was cut off after chains of olympus? Just a guess.

Wait did he have girl's locked in his quarters on the boat?
i think for safety when they began to crash
Probably to protect them when the boat crashed
sad
The boat should have kept running and he would have survived
