You should invest in a light diffuser to avoid having to much reflection on you bike. (When you couldn't find a way to show us how the find came out). It costs less than 20$.
Main reason for holes in the gaiters is to let air in and out, when the forks compress so does the air inside and will leak out a little but when the forks extend it will not draw air in, so when that happens a few thousand times the gaiters get sucked in. So they are just breather holes. Bikes looking good Mark.
when the manufacturers make their cylinders with the highlighted fins they machine them flat, and you got rounded fins it takes a bit of patience and power tools. I was once held up on a job due to a 35 cent grommet of all things, Oh on the steering stem nut use a shock spanner, its safer.
Prob a bit late now, but I have a feeling that ball bearings in a race like that need a gap of one ball so that they can move easily. Maybe head bearings are ok because they're not moving much so will not overheat and seize up due to friction? ps I'm no expert either! :) Glad to see you're keeping on keeping on.
When you put the stem for the front forks on you put a nut on the top of it and tightened it down. There should be a tab washer that goes under the nut that has a tab to bend up in the slot of that nut to keep it from backing off while you ride. Check it out..Would not want you getting sued over the forks falling apart..
Hi mate, More so the Yamaha oil cap. The bike I bought has been garaged for a few years and has corrosion on the cylinder head covers and the oil cap. Just wondering what would be the best approach to bring it up nicely like yours. Cheers for the reply!

Looking great mate. Found your videos as I was looking up the 250 virago. Just picked one up in a hell of a lot worse shape than yours. So looking for ideas on fixing her up. Is there anyway you can show the carburetor hose connections. As the one I got has cut out the vacuum pump side.

Ordered 2 patches from your website last night mate for post to SA, keen to put them on my bag. Have the same bike, consider 17/38 sprocket upgrade if you haven't yet, changes the bike to a brand new one.

You are making great progress. I am also building a xv250 and it seems like I make 3 steps forward but make a mistake and take 2 steps back. Do you have a mental deadline or are you just finishing as is?
If you have issues you need to tell the ebay seller you will name and shame them to your 18k subscribers on TH-cam! I think that might change their mind!
Hey man, Have bought stuff from you guys for quite afew years now, (mainly Gotcha Straps N Sunnies of all colours). Am watching you rebuild the little Jappa 250, & just a tip you can use it or not. Watching the Headstock Bearing tightening the triple trees, you may want to re think & re tighten that nut up till it's relatively stiff. Once you put the rest of the front end on, there will be an even looser/smoother feeling to turn the bars. You might take it for a hundred clix & all is peachy, but as soon as you hit that 1st pothole, you may end up with the Headstock Bearings turning loose, & give a very noticeable knock, & the front brakes will get a shudder to them also. I'm not sure if you can retighten them easily afterwards, but if they are a pain to get to later, you will be saying words far harsher than the "Bloody" you usually say. Reconsider now to tighten them up till they are reasonably stiff, as loose bearings can be eaten up very fast. Goodluck, do it, or don't, it's not my project or money. Cheers...
