    Real good idea to do this in the garage - good way to get a new house

      S Kel no different than making soup in your kitchen. Obviously you haven’t ever done this.

      @@nathanlong5617 I understand S Kel's concern. You can't do a thing if the wax catches fire. However, It's not as volatile as beeswax which is a big no no.
      From what I've read isn't your wax too hot? How did it work out for you anyway? I still paint mine.

      Bee Bob the flash point is 400°. If it did catch fire I could shut the lid, that’s why I have a lid. But I’ve had it overflow and it doesn’t catch fire. With having at that hot, you don’t have to cook it as long. It boils the water out faster with higher heat. Lower temperature you have to cook them longer, just like meet.

      @@nathanlong5617 it might not foam so much if you bring the temp down under 280°. At least the bubbles would be smaller.

    What do you do with the left-over wax in the tank? Do you just let it harden in the tank and re-melt it when you get ready to dip again?

      CochranCattleCompany leave it and then remedy when I dip again.

    where do you buy your parrafin/rosin mix

    • @nathanlong5617
      @nathanlong5617  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Kelly Grigg depends on price. Mann Lake is good. They matched the lowest price for paraffin and they were cheaper for rosin than the manufacture in Georgia. The funny thing is Mann Lake bought rising from the Georgia guy.

    What is the ratio of wax to rosin?

    • @johnanthonybell
      @johnanthonybell 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +joe mrmeede suggests 75% paraffin and 25% rosin (resin) . . .

    • @nathanlong5617
      @nathanlong5617  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it is 3 to 1. Some say you can go more like 4 or 5 to one. But I don't think it's worth the risk. Your not going to save much for the lack of rosin.

    I'm wanting to dip 1000 lids how much do you think I would need

    • @nathanlong5617
      @nathanlong5617  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on if they are plywood or solid. Plywood takes more than twice as much. I would guess solid wood lids will need a couple hundred lbs for that many lids. Let me know if you do it please.

    What is the rosin for? Why not 100% wax?

    • @nathanlong5617
      @nathanlong5617  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rosin is what helps it absorb/adhear to the wood. 100% Wax will not absorb. Wax will just sit on the surface and the scrape off.

      ROBERT BRITTON same size. I just made some design changes. It’s a double wall with a much heavier bottom (1/2”) eliminated the lid. Lid doesn’t let moisture out, helps retain heat.
