    Larry Vickers is one hell of an American and a pillar in the gun community. Each and every one of us owes a ton of thanks to Larry for his service and his contribution to the firearms world. 🇺🇸

    Great story. I was one of the lucky ones like Larry. Delayed enlistment in early 1974 so I could graduate HS. Spent the summer at home, then in Sept off to basic, AIT, Jump School, and the Q-Course and he is absolutely correct. I was 19 and had only lived in Texas and Colorado and knew nothing of the world. But, it was a life for me. I got to the unit in 82, well ahead of Larry but as things were, we still had the chance to stand shoulder to shoulder on the range. I eventually retired with no regrets and I miss it every damn day.

      Young men need examples like you now more than ever, the stories you could tell are absolutely invaluable to the development of the drive and mindset of a young man, that's one of the reasons that the older generations look at millennials and gen Z and don't see real men, because real men are usually very isolated in our society due to not being able to relate to very many people since more and more men are so far from what men in your generation are made of. If we had mentors like you to look up to more of us would be young men you could look upon with respect and be proud of what they've become

    ...wow...he finished the Q-Course the class ahead of me...I started in that class, but finished in the next class due to a recycle...I remember E-2's in the class...I don't remember him, unfortunately. I remember the times and the culture back in the day. I also remember Delta back in the day, as well...just a bit after the "Charging Charlie" Beckwith days. Wow. Coincidence. He's right about the ops-temp ramping up in '89. Not that he's given us any reason to doubt his word, but I can personally vouch for his remembrance of his career and his times.. The lessons he learned are right on. Right on.

    Larry, you aint lying when you talk about a short window of opportunity to try out for these high speed jobs. I attempted Air Force Special Warfare (TACP) at 37 years old, and although I could ruck better than most kids and move weight around like a pack mule my 210 pound older body could not come close to hacking it on the run times with the bodyweight I was lugging around. If i knew when my prime was when i was in my prime things might have gone differently.
    The guys that make it into SOF and other Special Jobs later in life are genetic studs and hats off to them. I wasn't blessed like some were.

  • @Peenurpool
    @Peenurpool 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    If anything, Mr Vickers deserves all due respect for making the leap to go for what he really wanted to do, rather that regret not trying later on in life.. It takes a lot of sack and dedication for a young man, as he was at the time, to go about getting where he wanted to be, and doing what he had to do to get there.. we all know plenty of people that never pursued what they really wanted to do.. not that they are disappointed with their life now, but the ones I know wonder often, “what if”....

    In my late 60s now, been shooting for over 45 years. Never served, but would sacrifice my life for god, country and for those I love. Been watching Mr. Vickers' online for years now and you know why? I was one who never tolerated noise. I am gone if I am not intrigued/interested within the first 60 seconds of a video. I have never clicked out of any video from LV. Purpose is one of his many virtues. Thank you PP for another great insight into someone who has contributed so much to our Country and community. Mr. Vickers is a man whom others look up to, admire and respect due to his specialist expertise and experience and his genuine love of imparting knowledge to his students!
    He is noted for his suberb authorship of highly informative and beautifully photograped specialist books which contain a wealth of knowledge.
    He does all of this with sincere modesty, which I believe is one of the many reasons people hold him in such high regard.
    Whether designing items to help improve accuracy or making excellent videos, each is carried out to very high standards, another VT hallmark.
