I totally agree! If it’s put away, out of sight, out of mind - you won’t use it. You’re just giving your money away for things stored and won’t be used ever. I donate things I no longer want or have room for so someone else can use it.
@@TheCarlaProject I had a friend who got a storage unit for the same reason when she moved from Ohio to Arizona. She paid for said unit for well *over* 10 years! Guess what? She's changed apartments a few times and has NEVER had to room to ship everything from Ohio. She finally let the unit go and the storage company disposed of all of her "treasures". So much money down the drain!
Hope She keeps and repurposes the beautiful Antique that was her Mother's and actually use it in her new home. Instead, She should let a number of the modern cheaper made bookcases, shelves, and other things go.
She simply must bring the green hutch to the new home, it will make it look more soulful. Also the big bookcase because it’s vertical storage. Small furniture in a small place looks busy, and ineffectual. Look forward to next one!
Becky is going to be in plant heaven at her new place! The moving part is emotional and bittersweet but having a friend there to help guide you toward what you want and through the scary part is priceless. Carla, what you are doing is allowing people to move forward in their lives. No small feat. 😊❤️
I just spent the whole weekend helping a friend move her elderly parents out because they are going into assisted living. When I tell you that I haven’t seen that much stuff in a while, it’s no exaggeration. The family was having decision fatigue. They ended up renting a storage unit and putting most stuff in there. Ugh…. I Would have thrown 85% of the things out!! I have never been more motivated to de-clutter my place now!!!
My husband’s family did the exact same thing! They moved Arizona furniture (southwest decor) to Chicago and put in storage unit for four years! No one in the family wanted most of it so eventually had to pay someone to take it all! What a waste of money!
Have you ever heard of Swedish Death Cleaning? Essentially it is regularly going through your belongings and getting rid of things that you no longer use. The purpose is that when you die, it'll be easier on your loved ones.
Two things: This is THE most California of move-ins with the cleansing ritual and Becky wearing the "Manifest" shirt! Second, if you've watched much of Chelsea Fagan from The Financial Diet, she totally talks about her dog as if she gave birth to her, it's so funny. I love Samson...that gorgeous fluffy doggo--husky maybe? --who showed up? So beautiful! Can't wait to see more of the new space come together!
I would do whatever possible to keep the vintage pieces...especially the family pieces. Smaller bed...bar stool at counter for eating...not a full size couch, etc. Along with the memories they cannot be replaced. I don't know what all she has to move but I saw a couple of options in the entryway/kitchen. From SE Kansas 🌻
Hi, we moved 22 years ago from a house to a 2BR condo. We lost an attic and basement. Declutter and don't get a storage unit. Take the green hutch and tall bookcase. Tina, Al's wife
What an exciting move, trading one spectacular view for another! Becky will have her own private forest outside her bedroom door, how cool is that!? A plant lover's paradise.
That is so great to have your own place. Even though it's smaller it looks quieter and the back yard looks peaceful. Sometimes something comes along that forces you to reconsider things and in the end you're better off.
I would keep the green cabinet and the book case and not take any of the wood boxes or small cabinets. What ever fits in them is what gets to stay for treasures and craft materials. Good luck with the move. ❤
For mementos - like the wedding napkins, or concert tickets, etc - try a shadow box. It takes up limited space on the wall and you can stack years worth of stuff in them! I've got a movie ticket from 1999 in mine! Important things you can pin to the backboard to keep them in better shape (like the napkins, for instance)
I'm coming to the terms with the fact that I am a maximalist as well. I've decluttered multiple times over but am not wanting to get rid of much more just for the sake of it, I use what I have. I'd say that the biggest thing for me is to know whether I can comfortably store it, and I mean comfortably and not cramping it somewhere, so that everything has its place. And what helped me a lot with the gifts I received but not necessarily wanted to keep was to realise that the act of gifting is more important to me than to hold on to the gift I have no use for. Best of luck to Becky in her new home 😊
II just moved this week after being in a place for 6 years.. It is exhausting. I declutterred some things before the move and now that I am in the new place I will slowly go through and declutter more. I realize as I am getting older I just don’t want all the stuff. I am adopting the motto life is about experiences not about material things. I love Becky’s new place. So much character!
Storage units you'll be kicking yourself for wasting the money. Think of the money you can save. You could save right in your pocket to buy whatever you want.
She will always remember the beautiful view and menories from her last place. Butt that new place and that garden such a magical place to make new ones. ❤❤
Used a storage unit twice in my life. Both times for short term storage during a move. One of my clients has 2 units for 10+ years. I asked him if he has used anything in either unit. He said no. What a waste of money!
It's crazy how when we live in a big home everything just keeps fitting in it until the move to a smaller home and we don't even realize how much extra stuff we had that was of no use or forgotten until the declutter/move and when we let go those things our mind and home feels so much free and lighter Me and my family had to move to a smaller home 3 years back and when we saw the amount of unused/forgotten/old stuff our minds blew and we were just so much happy to let go of all those things and if we had decided to keep those we needed atleast 2 big rooms just to store them Hats off to you for letting of the things and clearing your mind and home for so much good things to come your way
You two have such a fun vibe when you're together. I was actually shocked by Becky's decluttering powers. Wow... I didn't expect that she would have so much courage. It's so liberating. Great job and all the best in your new home! And a huge hug for Samson 💗
Two years ago we moved from a large 5 bed with a double garage to a very small one bed cottage - best thing we ever did, and we got rid of sooo many belongings in the process
If Becky doesn't have room in her new place for the sentimental bookcase, it would be perfect in your bedroom on the right when you walk in. This would be perfect for placing items that are usually put on the floor in your room.
I love Becky's energy! She's full of light. And you helping her declutter and move will only bring more of that light forward. I'm looking forward to the rest of this declutter and how she sets up her new home. And I agree with everyone - keep the green vintage piece!
Ohhhh my, the new place is soooo cute! So cosy, intimate! Love all the wooden accents. Becky must be thrilled! Having your own place is always a dream come true haha! I haven't even finished the video yet, but am just contemplating that rainy day with the amazing backyard full of plants 🥰🌱🪴
I hope we get to see the new place. This was a nice one. We wasted sooo much money on storage unit. I regret ever getting it. Stuff just ages . You forget what’s in there and the price keeps going up. You basically pay to store junk. Every year we say this Spring for sure! If you love it try to find a place to use it or lose it.
I'm going through this now! We have been living in this 3 bedroom house for 10 years- my son's whole life! Now we are downsizing by 75% to do "tiny living" in a "large" 2 bedroom RV. I have been trying to declutter a 3' x 3' space at a time- but it is overwhelming!!!
Her new place is to die for! The garden is so amazing 🙏🏻❤️🫶🏼! Can’t wait for the next video! Love the green vintage piece, please work it in to your home!
Last time I moved was about 10 years ago. I hired a moving company. They packed Everything. I was unpacking and found a bag of dog poop that was on the steps in the backyard. It really was a blessing. I had a ton more energy to evaluate what needed to go or stay in the new place. I got rid of so much stuff. Many full loads for donation.
I’ve moved 6 times in 12 years. Before that, made two cross country moves. It isn’t difficult once you realize you have too much stuff that you don’t need to be happy. Declutter before each move including plants that aren’t living up to their full potential.😂 Moving is like a cleansing. So exciting. You are both doing a great job!
Love the new place! Congratulations! Please keep your mom’s green piece of furniture. You need height in some pieces. Also , the bookcase just decluttered could replace your dresser. Use bins for clothes and add books and memorabilia. Smaller bed , try to downsize fast furniture bins. Your plant collection is gorgeous and nice art to fill your walls. Make a mood board online and stay true to your dream. The backyard is magical! This is such an exciting time in your life. Purge, purge , purge.
Can‘t wait to see the progress of moving. Please show us the next level of decluttering and take us to the journey of arriving in the new home and decorating all her personal stuff. Please push her to bring the green cabinet in and maybe let go something else.
Fantastic decluttering Becky! I hope you’ll be able to take the patio set for your new backyard oasis. Looking forward to seeing the process and the finale when Carla helps to organize. It’s going to be awesome! And take the green piece and maybe repurpose it for the bedroom. 💕☺️🏡

I went through a massive declutter at the end of 2022 to prepare to sell my home that I owned for 13 years. I filled two small dumpsters full of old furniture and stuff I no longer needed. I even got rid of my bed and slept on an air mattress until I moved into my new place. Lol! I have no idea why I held on to so much stuff. I never thought about it. When all was done, everything I owned fit into a 5x10 storage unit until I moved! Now that I’m in a new space, I declutter weekly and I’ve been super intentional about what I bring home. I never want to feel that overwhelmed again. I love your content, Carla! Thank you for this. I get inspired every time I watch!
Hello, ask if she could have a little shed in the garden, that might help. i live in a tiny ex hotel unit, 2 windows and one entry/exit door. my suggestions, use suitcases as storage, when on holidays those items can sit on the bed and use suitcase. go up, use tall storage items. i am short and still do that (5ft) and have a little ladder. my bed is one that lifts up the mattress and store items underneath. it is amazing how much you can store under there. have boundaries once set up, such as this box is only for candles once the candles escape the box, you have to declutter some. i love buying things 2nd hand and i find boundaries is the best method especially for books! i think she could use the green item (Mums thing) for so many ideas, maybe a kitchen/pantry/office storage, or shove in the wardrobe as use for clothes. think outside the square. all the very best 🙂
Hi Carla, it looks like she could place that vintage green piece of her moms as you walk into the front door close to the counter. I hope she does not get rid of it. My mom has been dead for 20 years and Becky will want to see something of her moms in the future.
Omg that was a fantastic declutter Becky and Carla. It definitely helps when you’ve a friend to help declutter, pack and move. Wishing you lots of laughter, health and happiness in your new place Becky. Mary, Joes wife 👏💪👍🙏💐🐕🦺
Another huge challenge for you and one of your besties…it can make or break a friendship. You have the knack of bringing the best in people and I’m impressed with how much has been declutterred already. Can’t wait to see the next ep. ❤❤❤
Beautiful new apartment. I couldn't give up an antique buffet I'd had for 40 years even though my new house had no dining room. So I put it in the bedroom and sold the dresser instead. She should put the cabinet in her bedroom and put clothes and shoes in it. Repurpose. Always keep your favorite things.
Been in my home for 14 years, moving is stressful and y'all did an amazing job! I can't wait to see part 2 next week. The little guest house is adorable! Bring the vintage green cabinet and it could be in the kitchen/dining area where it will feel special and not neglected in a storage unit. It could be there another decade.
So happy she found the place that she manifested. The garde is a dream, I hope she is allowed to use it. She will be spending half of her time out there 😍
I’ve downsized a gazillion times. Great job asking about her fave art pieces. That island looks moveable. If so it can be moved closer to the kitchen area. Looks like she is only taking the dresser, bookcase, desk so her mom’s cabinet should fit. If she is getting a new bed, downsize to a full sized bed. It’s just her and it could be cozier with company😊. Get one that has drawers under the bed or has room for under bed storage. If the island can go away they sell these cute islands with stools that will allow for more seating. I agree that she can use the hutch as a nightstand. It all depends on where she wants her desk. You can do this you beautiful souls! You smile if infectious! Minimalish is the goal!
Just moved my mother from a 1 bedroom to a studio apartment (with separate room for kitchen) this past week before she retires. HUGH amounts of work but it turned out well and she's happy with a view of the water
Becky is doing so well decluttering, she's on a roll. Good luck with the plants though Carla! At least Becky can leave some behind for her old room mates to take care of, she does not have to chuck them away. I hope she can stick to "light and airy" for the new flat. Looking forward to seeing how you set up the new place.
Storage units are where things go to die. Please please don’t get one.
I totally agree! If it’s put away, out of sight, out of mind - you won’t use it. You’re just giving your money away for things stored and won’t be used ever. I donate things I no longer want or have room for so someone else can use it.
She would store it for her future home. It’s a family heirloom. So she wants it for when she has more than a tiny one bedroom.

That’s exactly what I was going to say. I would suggest she finds a friend who can keep it for her. Much less chance of it getting damaged as well.
As someone with TWO storage units, I beg you not to go that route.

Yes, I agree! The green cabinet is very functional too.
That's what I was thinking.
Aaaand then ONLY stow the very beautiful things visibly there
I think there’s room for the vintage green piece! If it’s important to you, don’t let it rot in storage.
Please keep it!
Even if you had to, could you put it in the carport?
The vintage piece is gourgeus, please use it in kitchen with plates, glasses, a cute vase...🤗😍
Definitely looks like there should be room for it near the kitchen 🤞🏻

I have lived in this five bedroom house for 45 years. Decluttering to move will be a chore eventually. That guest house is adorable!
Sounds like it would be a good idea to start now and do it gradually rather than having to do it all in panic mode.

The green unit can be a beautiful pantry for the kitchen since storage is so limited in that small area.
Congratulations 👏🎉 Becky I love the new place. The look on Samsons face when he realized that you were with another dog 🐕 was precious.
So true!
Omg! Tell her not to get rid of any of her plants.. they all are so amazing. 😍😍😍
Love the green cabinet!
I absolutely love her new place! That backyard is amazing!
She's doing so good at letting go!
Wow the backyard is amazing!!!
I hope she keeps the hutch!
Her new place looks amazing! Congrats to your friend!
The new place is just adorable... love love love it❤. Those high ceilings *chefs kiss*.
I AM LIVING FOR THE DONNIE WAHLBERG MUG and all the NKOTB memorabilia! Never get rid of it!
Just moved my mother from a 1 bedroom to a studio apartment (with separate room for kitchen) this past week before she retires.
HUGH amounts of work but it turned out well and she's happy with a view of the water
That sounds like a great outcome. ☺️
@@janohare916 Thank you =)
That is awesome!! And water views 😍
The new place is so beautiful. Can't wait to see how it all comes together for her.
Congratulations Definitely take all plant's!! You can always sell the plants that do not fit.People buy them all the time
Becky is doing so well decluttering, she's on a roll. Good luck with the plants though Carla! At least Becky can leave some behind for her old room mates to take care of, she does not have to chuck them away. I hope she can stick to "light and airy" for the new flat. Looking forward to seeing how you set up the new place.
