Hi Nina, Fantastic demo!
I love your artwork and your teaching style. Would it be possible for you to show us how you would paint a rock or boulders in a lesson similar to this one?
Thank Matt! I will try :)
I have a Grey Scale Value Finder, from 1 to 10. The darkest being a 1 and the lightest a 10.
Hi Renee, I know it's so confusing. I have a color wheel that says the same thing and I did a tutorial about values based on that. But I also have one that goes 1-10 white to black and every one seems to be more comfortable with this (including Masters Andy Evsnsen, Joseph Zbukvic, etc). I suppose it's not a brain surgery, as long as we understand each other it's all it matters ☺️
Thank you Nina. The 2/3 mids and 1/3 darks is a good rule and technique. What would you change if the sky was overcast? Peace and love x
Very good question! There will be no sharp areas of lights and shadows.
These areas will have much softer contrast and will be almost fused together (painted wet on wet). Profile/edge of the tree maybe done with lost and found edges to emphasize the moisture in the air. In terms of color and tone: very limited palette, more neutral hues, close-toned lights and darks. If you are not against opaque pigments (Holbein lavender, Jaune Brilliant, etc) you can add those into the mix to reduce the saturation.
May I know what brush you use??? thank u!
Hi, at the beginning I'm using AS French Watercolor Brush, small mop Synthetic#6. It has a nice point and holds a bit more water than a regular round synthetic. Later in the video I'm using a mix squirrel and synthetic mop 8mm. I didn't like it and replaced it with same price but full squirrel Dainayw. Very impressed with Dainayw quality vs practice.
Which paper do you use for watercolor paper?
Hi, in the Tree tutorial I used Windsor &Newton sketch book and for the final painting I used Arches Rough. But my preferred paper for major works is Saunders Waterford rough at least 300gsm.
How to mix brown
It depends on the colors you have. But in general, mix 50/50 cad.yellow and cad.red to make orange and then little by little start adding cobalt blue. Or if you have Burnt Sienna mix it with cobalt blue or ultramarine. Thanks, it's a good suggestion, I should probably make a tutorial!
thank s
good content, very helpful, delivery a bit too fast
Thank you! I will keep it in mind!
