The punchy colours are annoying sometimes, though it's probably offset by the fact that now phones have better ability to not blow out highlights. Would be good if there was an option for natural colours... Interestingly, the Note seems to go for natural colours, but the regular Galaxy S9 is closer to the iPhone in terms of saturation applied.
I was thinking the exact same thing. Many people with iPhones would tell me my photos were too saturated and not natural enough for photo editing on a computer. Now Apple is over saturating pictures and they prefer the pictures that way. O well.
I'm baffled by the side to side movement in video stabilisation shot it looks like the Note is being shaken when most other reviews show it to be super stable, very strange. I think much of the answer to which stills camera is best depends on your own personal skill and needs. The Note looks more natural and a quick lightroom mobile edit would sort any issues out but if you like selfies the iPhone is probably a better phone. The iPhone isn't really a direct competitor tho as it has no pen and the price point with maximum storage is way higher than the Note. You can buy the Note with a fast charger included and expand the memory to 512gb for about £400 less than a 10s Max

[] Video Quality: Really nice ! I love the image stabilization, although, the samsung did display a higher framerate, as i noticed (correct me if I'm wrong) [] As for the Note9, i really like the detail on the samsung (and iPhone, don't get me wrong) *Final conclusion, those 2 smartphones have their qualities, now depends what each person prefers, no need to hate each other for liking something different. :D*
Your review is very good. I watched two other UK tech reviewers and there is a consistent theme. Samsung needs to improve the dynamic range or adjust the exposure, when taking outdoor photos with high contrast. The sky is always blown out, with no cloud definition, almost white skys. You may have described the process used in the "Bokeh" effect perfectly. Using software only to "guess" what is in focus, is not foolproof. I own a Lumix TZ100 (ZS100) and it has Post Focus mode. Post Focus takes a series of photos at different focal points, so you can choose the object or person you want in focus after. My old Nokia Lumia had a similar, but more basic system. The iPhone has more magenta while the Samsung less. This shows with red faces on the iPhone, blue skies, while the Samsung has pale look and pale blue skies. I think both phones will need post editing to fix the exposure, dynamic range and colours. You cannot fix focus errors unless they have post focus or you take a few photos to be sure.
You are great at pointing out the good & bad in photos! Personally, I think the Note does much better with selfies. I like the natural look when it comes to selfies. The iPhone made your face look red & fake LOL. I do like the performance of the iPhone camera better when it comes to landscapes, except for those errors you pointed out that were just strange (the area that didn't blur under the lamp, the edge detection & the flower detail). I was SO SURPRISED @ the lowlight photos because I thought there was a huge difference in the iPhone's lowlight camera...it is SO MUCH BETTER! I thought Samsung's camera was supposed to be unsurrpassable 😂
For me, audio goes to Iphone. Stereo recording is amazing thing (do you guys listen songs in mono or stereo, what is better?), audio compression(big + for iphone) because if you are recording live concert or jamming band, where is much loudness, compressor do his job(there is no cricketing and crackle) and perfectly drops down that loud noise to normal audio. As a professional musician i prefer Iphone, and RTA(eq spectre) works perfect when I am using it over his built in microphone. My coleague have samsung s9 and when he records playing music(concerts), audio is ok, but you can hear that peak noise and crackle(because of loudness)... That is my opinion and expirience :)
I think your comparison sometimes was wrong. Some of the photos you said were better on the iPhone were actually better on the Note. I think it is difficult as everyone's perceptive is different. The colours again as you say depends on the person whether you like false colour on the iPhone or natural colour on the Note. Low light was about even the first one was better on the iPhone the others not much in it. Overall I preferred the Note 9 but it is preference as they are both good. Your reviews are great as your always to the point and do not talk a lot of dribble like so many other people on their reviews. Brilliant thank you.
Audio on the Note 9 is much better. The iPhone the colours looked warmer and it is much sharper. I have the One Plus 5T and took a couple pictures with it and the iPhone 10s Max and I thought the One Plus was much better. I suspect the one Plus 6T will beat it hands down. I don’t it’s notch and very expensive price for the iPhone. Great video as usual
8:42 ok fyi,the xs max has a more closer blur couse its on a more bigger aparture, thats why the background blur seems to be more closer, thats why theres an option to change the aprature so the user can change the range of depth of the blur. P.s Aslo if you think the note 9 can have this option as well.its actually diffrent, the note 9 has an option to only lower the opacity of the blur, the xs/max can change depth which means the option to choose the range and blur of a photo.
Some of the iPhone photos had to much colour looked fake but some were good. I would take note to be honest I don't want that much saturation I want a really good phone with good camera not a plain phone with good photo's but over saturated. Note 9 four me thanks
@Sherlock Homie I'm waiting for th he s10 and them I will decide if I will get that or the note 9. And I can upgrade in match. No matter how much money I had I still would not buy the xs max ad outs just not worth that amount of money. If they did a 128 gig fire 1100 would of been better

Be interesting to see how the OnePlus 6 compares tbh as I didn't find either of these two phones to be very impressive at all. Did a lot of photos of Vancouver on my OnePlus 6 in similar light conditions and got better results I feel. Can't wait to get back there I might add!

Last night when we tried to take pictures in the club ( lounge) with black, blue, violet lights, the iPhone xs max couldn’t perform well. On my friend’s note 9, it looked really nice. I’m an Apple fan but it really failed in this light setting.
I'm not a fan of either the *Galaxy Note 9* or the *iPhone Xs Max* when it comes to cameras (I'm not tryna say they have bad cameras), *I'm a huge Sony Xperia fan when it comes to cameras.* But both of these phones take good pictures. Can you do a camera comparison including the *Xperia XZ2 or XZ2 Premium* and possibly the *Xperia XZ3* please?
Great comparison but unless I missed it it does not show night-time shots and from what I have seen the note 9 is noticeably better in low light due to the wider aperture. For daytime shots, I generally prefer the better HDR of the iPhone but in many shots there was no noticeable difference between them.
So i bought my first Note 9 Yesturday and I realized the front camera is wayyyyyy zoomed in. It only captured my face, i cant flash and outfit. Um, is this an option to fix??? or is the camera suppose to be so zoomed for front camera?
Great Comparisons...The Audio is definitely better on the note.... when you flipped it around to the front camera...then it sounded like the iPhone sound was better...Got to give them selfies too the iPhone...and the note is way sharper on the night shots 👊👍
Wow i dont get it. The first half of the video I had to give it to the XS. But the second half was all Note 9. I did expect iPhone to take the win but the Note surpised me. Especially the audio and video quality, much more stable imo on the Note. IPhone colours are great at times, but there are also times where it is a bit too saturated. People will also have opposing opinions on the zoom for each camera.
The larger aperture on note 9 takes much brighter photos than IPhone. It might be due to the angle of photos taken which is making IPhone photos brighter. Please do a separate review on low light shots comparing both phones.
Definitely XS Max overall. Audio is better on note 9. Quality, Sharpness is better on XS Max. Edge detection should be worked on but that’s my only real criticism to it. I personally prefer the saturation on the iPhone but I guess its preference. Also, the great thing is, if you are buying a phone just for the camera, you could get the XS for cheaper and have the exact same camera module
Although the iPhone XS Max audio is better than the mono audio seen in the X, I think the Note 9 still has a bit better audio quality. When you were walking with the front camera recording the video, that seemed very close on audio. It is surprising to me that the Note 9 is the less saturated one now, but it did blow out the sky or part of the subject in some of the shots. Both show we still have room for improvement in phone cameras, but they're still quite good.
On the portrait pictures from the iPhone I feel the result might look better if you change the F-stop to a somewhat higher value. It seems that on these shot a very low F-stop number was used, making the background blur rather strong. For instance on the shot of you cat at 10:20 the background blur on the iPhone is much more significant than the blur on the Note 9 image. As a result the edge doesn't look as good in the iPhone image. The same goes for the flowers shot at 8:43. Issues with edge detection on portrait shots is something you see with *all* phones that have this mode. With the street light you found a case where the iPhone didn't do so well, but if you take enough shots you will also get instances where the Note will not get it right. Both do however do get more consistent results than the Pixel 2 though. The Pixel is far worse with messing up the fore- and background separation.
This is definitely one of the best comparisons I've seen so far! Kind regards Richard U.K
❤️👌

Natural and realistic cameras X’s Max
Yes Samsung got the catfish camera lol
Saturated and natural? You gotta be kidding me, iphone takes more saturated photos but note 9 wins when it comes to taking natural photos
Cheong Keng Seng whatever you wanna call but the iPhone camera is more to to life
Lol, more saturated and natural don't go together
WGACA so what do you call the note 9 camera because it make images way to bright and make the skin smooth like you put on make up or something
I prefer Note 9 pics
iPhone these days are so oversaturated
Lol of course you would.
I see you everywhere in youtube videos praising samsung.
@@aurangzebbaloch8014 He praises the better phone , simple as that 🤷
Aurangzeb Baloch well not too long ago people bagged on samsung for punchy colors. now iphone does it and everyone loves it. sooooooooooo
@@garretts431 exactly 2 years back
When iPhone 7 plus was closest to reality and samsung was punchy
They were praising apple at that time i was also using iPhone 7plus but 8plus,X started saturation trend and with extra benefits compared over iPhone
I made switch from 7plus to Note 9 Yellow spen😁
Overpriced af
I'm a huge samsung fan but iphone xs max is quite awesome 👏 👏
*iPhone Xs Max (My personal opinion, take it as you wish)*
_____
Blur: Acceptable, could've been better tbh.
[]
Photo Quality: Loving it !
[]
Audio: Meh, expected a lot better for that price.
[]
Video Quality: Really nice ! I love the image stabilization, although, the samsung did display a higher framerate, as i noticed (correct me if I'm wrong)
[]
As for the Note9, i really like the detail on the samsung (and iPhone, don't get me wrong)
*Final conclusion, those 2 smartphones have their qualities, now depends what each person prefers, no need to hate each other for liking something different.
To my eyes, the real 4K@60fps only comes from Note 9, the XS Max one looks like 30fps.
Best comparison video mate but what about pixel 2 vs iPhone Xs ?
I will wait and do a comparison with the Pixel 3 👍😊
ASBYT agreed but the new pixel will cost around £900 when the actual is £500 and still a choice for a lot of us on lower budget.
The 4k60 on the iPhone looks so choppy.. Like 4k30, whereas it's so smooth, true 60fps on the note9 (especially when the car drives by) how come?
Nice video tomato-head.
🤣🤣🍅🍅
A little bit more saturated color on XS Max is a giant understatement.
Steve L im crying seeing samshits crying😹
The thumbnail on this video, I think he is Hamish Daud. 😂
Look at the photos of the Note 9 in low light, lol.
i think the video footage from the iphone is not 60fps
Some of the iPhone photos had to much colour looked fake but some were good. I would take note to be honest I don't want that much saturation I want a really good phone with good camera not a plain phone with good photo's but over saturated. Note 9 four me thanks
I agree.
Amen
@Sherlock Homie I'm waiting for th he s10 and them I will decide if I will get that or the note 9. And I can upgrade in match. No matter how much money I had I still would not buy the xs max ad outs just not worth that amount of money. If they did a 128 gig fire 1100 would of been better
I’m iphone 7 owner and what they have done with iphone x photo saturation is disappointing.
Im exited for the Oneplus comparisons!!♥
cant wait for those. 😊🙌
You should re-do this comparison soon when Note 9 has had the camera update. In Germany Note 9 is about to get major camera software update (N960FXXU2ARI9) which will role out world wide. It will improve HDR accuracy, brightness, even less noise in low light and better facial exposure in direct sunlight.
iPhone's Max camera is slighty better in many different ways, and imagine iPhone has no updates yet still has the ios from the box! great video mate!
Does the iPhone XR have stereo recording?
Shows how many videos I've missed 🙁 I just noticed your cool chair...NICE❗👍
I noticed the lens flare on the Max yesterday when I was out shooting. Looked pretty bad.
Here in Japan when you're inside the train almost all people are busy looking at their phone and I can say that 90% of them are using iPhone.
I phone XS Max OMG camera and photography
Front facing camera angle is important. Narrow angle is no good. Cause your background is not seen. To memorize where you go.
Amazing video, great job!! Please do more camera comparisons :)
What case are you using for the note 9 looks really nice :)
Be interesting to see how the OnePlus 6 compares tbh as I didn't find either of these two phones to be very impressive at all. Did a lot of photos of Vancouver on my OnePlus 6 in similar light conditions and got better results I feel. Can't wait to get back there I might add!
video stabilization: Iphone
rear camera: note 9
portrait mode: iphone (due to high dynamic range where as samsung is completely covered in white with that red figure)
front camera: iphone (due to high dynamic range where samsung is blue to green on sky)
low light: note 9
Audio: Note 9
overall: note 9
conclusion: Iphone is better when it comes to HDR and also with video stabilization but still samsung wins because of less saturarion where iphone is over saturated
this is just me bois no hate peaze! ✌
Last night when we tried to take pictures in the club ( lounge) with black, blue, violet lights, the iPhone xs max couldn’t perform well. On my friend’s note 9, it looked really nice. I’m an Apple fan but it really failed in this light setting.
iPhone Xs Max vs "nokia flip phone". Gees ASBYT, what was this that i had to wait for from the pond
Excellent comparison! Many thanks
Glad you found it helpful mate! 👍
Amazing video! Look forward to the comparison with Pixel 3 haha
😀👍
Selfies, IPhone. Recording IPhone since It is 4K 60 fps for 10 minutes and I record from 2-9 minutes
4:55 when you don't clean the camera lens.
Bro can you reccomend me in between Samsung galaxy A9 and Xiaomi Mi 9
No more low light shots???
Is it possible to shoot portrait mode with iPhone XS Max better camera (26mm) ? Particularly, when shooting in low light conditions.
Awesome review!! Greetings from the Philippines!
Plz what's better iphone xs or Samsung s10?
Dude where are you taking these shots? These are amazing photos
Great comparison but unless I missed it it does not show night-time shots and from what I have seen the note 9 is noticeably better in low light due to the wider aperture. For daytime shots, I generally prefer the better HDR of the iPhone but in many shots there was no noticeable difference between them.
hahahhaha like a tomato XDXDXD. like the color of the max but the brightness of the note 9. thanks for the video. love ya!
Thanks for your comparison! But why the f/1.5 aperture (note 9) looks darker than the f/1.8 aperture on the iPhone in low light shot ?
I don't think I'm getting any phones.. I'm getting a grey cat instead. 🙌🏼😂🐱🐈
What a honest guy !!!
Prefer the videos, audio and low-light images on the Note but prefer the HDR and image quality on iPhone.
You've done a great job sir, but i just can't decide which one i want 😫
Excellent comparison. You continue to confirm my decision to wait for S10. Peace from Iceland.
i heard it can't do more then 1080p videos on youtube...is that true?
Wow i dont get it. The first half of the video I had to give it to the XS. But the second half was all Note 9. I did expect iPhone to take the win but the Note surpised me. Especially the audio and video quality, much more stable imo on the Note. IPhone colours are great at times, but there are also times where it is a bit too saturated. People will also have opposing opinions on the zoom for each camera.
Good comparison. The video is really good
Thanks mate! ❤️👍
IT IS FINISHED IPHONE XS MAX WINS.. IPHONE REVENGED
Do we take photos only during the bright daytime? Remember thanks to variable apertures on the note 9 you get much better photos in the dark.
Well, the front camera of my iPhone XS Max does something and makes the pictures appear kinda blurry or photo-shopped. :( Is my iPhone faulty ?? :( :(
Best comparison mate. 👍
You touched every point you could.. 👌🏾
👍😀
not really...he didnt record front camera video in low light for instance where samsung is absolute crap...
Iphone photos look better but their colors are too oversaturated. It s a serious issue.
I think u mixed up the phones in low light. Note 9 smokes IPhone in low light but your photos show the opposite
No mix up bud 👍
I think so too. He's probably a iPhone fan boy.
Sean Fuller By that logic you’re butt hurt samsung fanboy then?
The sunset probably threw things off. The iPhone had more reds and oranges, whereas the Note turned more blue/pink, consistent with smaller sensors.
The larger aperture on note 9 takes much brighter photos than IPhone. It might be due to the angle of photos taken which is making IPhone photos brighter. Please do a separate review on low light shots comparing both phones.
good video man, i would like to see a comparison with iPhone vs pixel 2 camera comparison :)
Again a fantastic review well done
Thanks mate! 😀👍
