I don't have this particular one, but I tried using another competitor version. Pros: shortcuts and mapped keys are great. It reduces the amount of mouse clicking. Cons: It's just another device on your desk. Eventually in my experience, I went back to just plain old keyboard and mouse. You really have to be committed to using it and memorizing all the set keys in order for it to be a part of your workflow.
For me, I edit photos and the best shortcut I have are presets, one click and I'm off to the next set of photos.

Dont forget that VIA writes directly to the board so it saves your macros even if youre using a different PC. VIA also doesnt run in the background and now has a web app so you dont need to install anything

Thanks for the info. I been looking everywhere for this, since my work required me to log in to multiple different computers that are company-controlled, so it important to be able to use the device the way I set it up without having to reinstall and reconfig the whole thing everytime. I was about to just give up searching and ask about it in this comment section. Thank again.

@@jakesutcliffe9208 - I had the same problem. Although I loved the design and construction of the Megalodon, I couldn't get VIA to work with it. Apparently there is an issue with some of the Megalodon internal software where you have to open up the device, find the serial number, and then make some adjustments in VIA to recognize the Megalodon. Given today's user-friendly competitors, I gave up on it and sent it back. Too bad. I really wanted it to work.

    Pretty swank looking!
One device that you might want to check out is the Huion KD100. I've been using it for the past couple months, and I've been blown away with how efficient it could be. It doesn't look as nice as this, the keys are only scissor switch, and it only has one dial, but it can be used wirelessly via USB receiver. I'm able to make different shortcuts for the various software I can use via the driver Huion uses. I haven't configured it in DaVinci Resolve and Audacity, but that dial it uses looks like it'll be useful there as well.

    • @ChoreStudios
      @ChoreStudios 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Agreed I would be very interested in gaining a better understanding of how to setup macropads to work differently across various software packages. Is it as simple as programming the required keys on a specific layer and ensuring this is selected when working in the program? Is it possible to create a dedicated and automatic switch to the specific layer when a program is opened? Many more questions from an absolute novice, but it surprises me the niche nature of this topic, it seems like there are a lots of macropad users and there are obvious benefits to adopting alternative input mechanisms but the background knowledge is hard to come by and seems to have a very steep learning curve. None of which has put me off yet! I have just bought one of these (over the larger 30% version) to dip my toe in, thank you for such a well made informative video, if you find the time to extend the learning to the programming side I would be very appreciative.

The "fanmade" VIAL firmware is much better. especially as it shows the knob and rotation direction.
Sadly its not mirrored, otherwise it would be great to use as a lefthanded macropad. [I know this from building my own 4x4 macropad with a RP2040]

Same here, I've wasted almost an entire afternoon researching this, looking for macros for the rotary dial. I've been searching for a wireless jog&shuttle for over a year now and this is the closest I've come to (tried all the cheaper ones too like Xence, Huion, XD-Pen). I thought the build quality of this was the best plus the lights help in the dark BUT NO JOG SHUTTLE on the rotary knob. You cant assign Macros to the knobs (at least not that I know of) and so it makes this useless for me so I'm going back to my ugly, old but trusty contour shuttle..So very sad about this!!

they show him changing Layers in the video, that is what the numbers between the knob on the LED screen shows., the layer you are using... 1 , 2 or 3...

Premiere uses the direction Arrows for scrubbing.... you can use the ones on your Keyboard ....

Can you use the knobs as an audio controller? Using one for main pc volume, one for discord, and one for music?

I am looking for a knob that can be used for changing playback speed of videos on TH-cam channels. I find it a hassle to have to click on the speed controls to increase playback speed. And sometimes it is overshot and I have to rollback a couple of seconds. I wonder if the Macropad solves this problem, so I can immerse more on the content and less on speed control navigation.

I'd be curious to know how it works from the software side. I thought it might look like a second keyboard, but how do applications feel about getting input from more than one keyboard? Do they care? If they do care, then you'd to "inject" keypress messages from device 2 into device 1. This can happen at any point before the application receives the event. On first principle it's worth exploring the productivity gains macros themselves give you before buying a new piece of hardware. However in my experience specialized hardware definitely encourages different behavior so its probably still worth getting. This can also point you in the direction of an interesting category of software, which are the keyboard enhancers. These utilities give you "universal shortcuts" that work in any application that accepts text input - like Karibiner or to a lesser extent Hammerspoon (both macOS, I'm sure there are equivalents for the others).

Love your channel - in your vid (6:10) it shows an ergonomic mechanical keyboard. Can you share a link?

Question, how to you remember what button does what without a label on them? I guess repetition would be the answer to that question. But I feel like it might be annoying to get used to that.

There's a new wireless version, but KM hasn't listed it yet. You can find it on Taobao though.

Do you know if there's like a macro pad that works with iOS or iPad? I've been looking one for one forever just to make digital painting on iPad faster

If you don't absolutely need dials, wouldn't it be more sensible to get a tartarus? Each key can have 2 functions assigned to it and you can even change profiles (desktop, PS, etc)
